George Mason University admissions run through fixed application windows across two main intakes (Fall in August, Spring in January), with rolling review inside each window. Undergraduate applicants need Class XII in the 65 to 70 percent range with strong Mathematics for STEM tracks; PG applicants need a Bachelor’s with a 3.0 GPA (roughly 65% in Indian terms).

  • Next live deadline (Fall 2027 primary intake): Early Action closes November 1, 2026 for international freshmen, with a $70 (around ₹6,700) application fee.
  • Application fee: Graduate application fee is $75 (around ₹7,177) | Undergraduate application fee $80 (7,700).
  • Eligibility floor: UG needs Class XII 65 percent+ with IELTS 6.5 overall; PG needs Bachelor’s with 3.0 GPA and IELTS 7.0.
  • Acceptance rate: approximately 89 to 90%, among the more accessible US public research universities for Indian applicants.

Indian students most commonly join MS Computer Science, MS Data Analytics Engineering, and the Costello MBA, drawn by the Fairfax campus’s proximity to Washington DC tech and consulting hiring. Peer sentiment on Reddit and IndianStudentUS forums highlights strong DC-area internships, though class sizes in popular MS programs run large. For a broader institutional view, see the George Mason University profile page.

Admission status. Open. The primary intake is Fall 2027 (August start), with Early Action for international freshmen closing November 1, 2026. The nearest live actionable window is the Spring 2027 graduate priority funding deadline of August 15, 2026.

George Mason University Application Deadlines for Indian Students

George Mason admits into two main intakes: Fall (August start) and Spring (January start). Each intake carries several sub-windows — an Early Action or priority round for merit review, a standard round, and a space-available round that stays open only if seats remain. For Indian applicants planning F-1 visa timing, the priority and standard rounds are safer than space-available windows, per the College of Engineering & Computing deadlines page.

George Mason’s primary intake for Indian students is Fall (August) — most programs open here.

Currency note: All ₹ figures in this article use $1 = ₹95.69 (August 2026). Live rates may vary, so confirm with your bank before remitting.

George Mason University Eligibility Criteria for Indian Students

George Mason has published, uniform minimums that Indian applicants can benchmark against before choosing a program. Academic thresholds sit below the levels demanded by top-tier US universities, but per-program floors (especially for MS Computer Science and Data Analytics Engineering) run higher than the university-wide minimum.

Undergraduate Eligibility

  • Class XII (recommended): around 65 to 70 percent overall, mapped to a US GPA of 3.3 to 3.8 (the middle 50 percent band of admitted students).
  • Mathematics: Class XII with Mathematics is required for Computer Science and Engineering tracks.
  • SAT/ACT: optional. STEM applicants without SAT need four years of high school mathematics, one course above Algebra II, all grades B or better.
  • English proficiency: IELTS 6.5 (6.0 each section), PTE Academic 59, or Duolingo 110.

Postgraduate Eligibility

  • Bachelor’s degree: a four-year (120-credit minimum) baccalaureate from an accredited institution with a GPA of 3.00 in the last 60 credits of undergraduate study.
  • Program-specific prerequisites: MS Computer Science requires Calculus I & II, Object-Oriented Programming, Discrete Mathematics, Computer Architecture, Data Structures & Algorithms, and Automata Theory.
  • English proficiency: IELTS 7.0 (6.5 each section), TOEFL iBT 4.5, PTE Academic 67.
  • Letters of recommendation: two, from academic or professional referees familiar with your work.

George Mason University Admission Decisions Timeline

George Mason issues rolling decisions inside each application window. For undergraduate Early Action applicants who submit by November 1, decisions typically release from late January onward. Regular Decision submissions receive responses from March to April. Graduate applications are reviewed by the individual academic department, so timelines vary by program.

  • UG Early Action decision: late January to early February.
  • UG Regular Decision: March to April.
  • Graduate decisions: 4 to 8 weeks after all materials are received.
  • MBA decisions: 4 to 6 weeks after the round deadline.
  • Enrollment deposit: due within 4 weeks of admission, typically $400 (around ₹38,276) for graduate confirmation of enrollment.
  • Deferral policy: admitted students may request to defer to the next intake with department approval; F-1 candidates must apply for a new I-20.

George Mason University Documents Required for Indian Students

The document checklist below is drawn from the George Mason international admissions page. Send only official, sealed, or provider-verified documents — screenshots and self-scans of transcripts are not accepted.

  • Copy of the passport identification page (valid at least six months beyond intended entry).
  • Official transcripts from every secondary school (UG) or every post-secondary institution (PG), with certified English translations for non-English documents.
  • Official English proficiency test score report sent directly by IELTS, ETS TOEFL, PTE, or Duolingo.
  • Certificate of Financial Responsibility (CFR) plus supporting bank statements or affidavits proving one year of study funding.

  • Statement of Purpose (SOP) or Goals Statement outlining academic and career goals.

George Mason University Acceptance Rate for Indian Students

George Mason does not publish an official institution-wide acceptance rate specific to Indian applicants. The overall undergraduate acceptance rate is estimated at approximately 89 to 90 percent, based on published freshman admissions data patterns — this places Mason among the more accessible US public research universities. Graduate program admission rates vary sharply by discipline.

How Indian Applicants Compare

Indian applicants who submit a complete file above the university minimums (Class XII 65 percent+, IELTS 6.5, coherent SOP) sit well within the admitted band. Where competition tightens is inside specific graduate programs — MS Computer Science and MS Data Analytics Engineering are demonstrably more selective than the university-wide picture, with the department reviewing prerequisite coverage as strictly as the 3.0 GPA floor.

Boosting Your Chances at George Mason

The three highest-leverage moves for Indian applicants are: meeting all listed prerequisites (missing prereqs are a common rejection reason for MS CS applicants), submitting the priority round where possible, and framing the Statement of Purpose around program-specific research or coursework rather than generic aspiration statements.

Insider note: Indian MS CS applicants without the full prerequisite chain (Automata, Data Structures, Computer Architecture) are sometimes admitted as provisional with a requirement to complete bridging coursework before starting core classes. Confirm your transcript maps to the listed prereqs before applying.

George Mason University stands out for Indian applicants because of its accessible entry bar (89 to 90 percent acceptance), test-optional MBA, and strong DC-area internship pipeline. The trade-off is large class sizes in headline STEM programs. If your profile clears the 3.0 GPA and IELTS 7.0 thresholds and your prerequisites match, apply in the priority round.

Scholarship

  • No, in George Mason, there are no scholarships allocated. None of my batchmates and friends received scholarships. There are no scholarships awarded unless and until you have a Teaching assistantship or research assistantship.
  • If you have any one of those, you will be waived for one subject and you will be having a pay for every 15 days. And there is a concept called stay mason fund in the university. If you are facing with any financial problem. you can seek help from the university which helps you financially.
