California State University, Fullerton Acceptance Rate for Indian Students

California State University, Fullerton reports an overall admit rate of around 90%, which places it in the accessible band among US public universities — meaning it admits most applicants who meet its stated requirements. That headline number, however, masks tighter selectivity in impacted majors and among nonresident applicants.

What the 90% Figure Actually Means for Cal State Fullerton

The 90% rate reflects institution-wide admissions. Impacted majors — programmes where applicants far exceed seats — apply supplemental screening. Nursing runs well below 50% admission, and Computer Science, Business Administration, and Kinesiology also tighten filters at the departmental level. Indian applicants targeting these majors should assume closer to a 50 to 65% real rate.

How California State University, Fullerton Rates in USA Rankings

CSUF is ranked #139 among National Universities in the 2026 US News Best Colleges list and #6 for Social Mobility, a measure of how well the university enrolls and graduates low-income students. Undergraduate Civil Engineering is ranked #9 nationally in the 2025 US News specialty list. Compare across broader tables on the CSUF ranking band page.

Insider note: The 90% figure is the correct number to cite, but Nursing, Business, and CS applicants routinely see 40 to 60% at the departmental level. Strengthen your application with a specific SOP tied to Southern California industry sectors — this is a decisive tiebreaker for impacted-major review.

USA Student Visa Process for California State University, Fullerton Applicants

Indian students admitted to California State University, Fullerton apply for the F-1 visa (the US non-immigrant student visa for full-time academic study). The process starts after CSUF issues an I-20 (the certificate of eligibility from the school) and takes six to eight weeks in most Indian consulates. File early — Southern California is a high-demand F-1 destination and appointment slots at Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai fill quickly for the Fall intake window.

Pay the SEVIS I-901 fee of USD 350 (₹33,397), complete the DS-160 online application, pay the visa application fee of USD 185 (₹17,653), and book a visa interview at your nearest US consulate. Carry the I-20, admission letter, financial evidence, academic records, and English test scores to the interview. Post-arrival, check in with the CSUF International Education and Engagement office within the first week of the term to complete SEVIS registration.

2026 update: The US Department of State has expanded interview waiver eligibility for Indian F-1 renewals, but first-time student applicants still need an in-person interview. Book your slot the moment your I-20 arrives.

Scholarship

  • No, there are no scholarships as such at the time of admissions.
  • Although I have seen some student get scholarships if they are active in the college communities and they typically get around 1000-2000 scholarships. But this is rare. Since the fees amount is too low as compared to other universities, they don't provide scholarships much. Around 4-5 people would get scholarships in a year(not sure).

Overview

The communications program is one of the best in CA and it was close to home and very cheap. Compared to other colleges it was the best choice for me. I applied to basically all of the UCS and also CSUF and Csulb. I like being near where I grew up, and since my parents were moving to a different city I knew I would have my space.

Overview

Because of the choices of course offered in this university. Also, the weather in California is similar to my native country. Also, there is also a lot of opportunity for on-campus involvement like Associated Students Incorporated. i.e ASI or other student organizations such as IEEE or fraternity clubs. The College also offers a decent fee structure.

No. I could not get any financial aid though I tried a lot for various scholarships. The process is all online on the University website
