Minnesota State University Mankato admissions run on a two-intake calendar for Indian students, with Fall (August) as the primary window where every one of the 220+ bachelor’s and 78+ graduate programs opens; a Class XII grade average equivalent to a US 3.0 GPA (around 75 percent) clears the undergraduate floor, and a US-equivalent Bachelor’s degree with roughly 3.0 GPA clears the graduate floor.
- Fall 2027 primary intake: F-1 seeker deadline 1 May 2027, applications currently open.
- Base tuition: UG USD 20,462 (around ₹19.53 Lakhs) plus fees per year; graduate USD 15,218 (around ₹14.52 Lakhs); PG application fee USD 40 (around ₹3,818), UG application fee waived with promo code.
- Eligibility floor: UG needs Class XII around 75 percent with IELTS 5.5 / TOEFL iBT 61; PG needs a Bachelor’s degree with IELTS 6.5 / TOEFL iBT 80.
- Acceptance rate: MSU Mankato does not publish an official institutional figure and follows an access-oriented model that admits most applicants who meet the stated academic and English floors.
Popular Indian-student choices at Minnesota State University Mankato include the MS Computer Science under the STEM PSM route, the online MBA, and the MS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering — Indian students on the STEM-designated tracks value the 36-month OPT window, the low midwest cost base, and the mid-May graduate deadline that lines up with Indian final-semester timelines.

Minnesota State University Mankato Application Deadlines
MSU Mankato runs two international intakes each year — Fall (August start) and Spring (January start) — and applicants seeking a fresh F-1 visa file earlier than students already inside the United States, per the official international undergraduate application calendar. Fall is the primary intake because every UG major and all 78 graduate programs open here; Spring runs a narrower course list.
Minnesota State University Mankato’s primary intake for Indian students is Fall — most programs open here, so treat 1 May as your target deadline unless you have a specific reason to file for Spring.
| Intake | Level | Deadline (F-1 Seeker) | App Fee | Portal |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fall 2027 (Primary intake) | Undergraduate | 1 May 2027 | USD 0 (INTLMAV waiver) | eServices UG |
| Fall 2027 (Primary intake) | Graduate / PG | 1 May 2027 | USD 40 (₹3,818) | MSU Graduate Apply |
| Spring 2027 | Undergraduate | 1 September 2026 (Closing Soon) | USD 0 (INTLMAV waiver) | eServices UG |
| Spring 2027 | Graduate / PG | 1 September 2026 (Closing Soon) | USD 40 (₹3,818) | MSU Graduate Apply |
| Fall 2026 | All levels | 1 May 2026 (Closed) | — | — |
Planning note: Some MBA and MS engineering tracks list earlier program-level priority deadlines (for example, MBA Fall Module 1 closes 15 July). If your target course sits inside the College of Business or Graduate Studies, check the individual degree page for a stricter cut-off than the institution-wide 1 May.
MSU Mankato Eligibility for Indian Students
MSU Mankato uses two eligibility tracks — one academic threshold and one English proficiency floor — and both must be cleared. Academic minimums translate directly from the Indian grading system, so Indian applicants do not need a separate credential evaluation for admission (only enrolled students later submit one for graduate credit transfer).
Academic Floor for UG and PG
- UG general entry: Class XII completion with a cumulative equivalent to US 3.0 GPA or roughly 75 percent aggregate.
- UG competitive majors: Nursing and Aviation-Professional Flight need higher scores; confirm on the department page.
- PG general entry: Four-year Bachelor’s from a recognised Indian university with a 3.0 GPA equivalent (roughly 65-70 percent, though many departments look for higher).
- PG credential evaluation: NACES-member evaluation (WES, ECE or equivalent) submitted directly by the evaluator.
English Proficiency Test Scores
| Test | UG Minimum | PG Minimum |
|---|---|---|
| IELTS Academic | 5.5 | 6.5 |
| TOEFL iBT | 61 | 80 |
| PTE Academic | 47 | 58 |
| Duolingo English Test | 95 | 110 (speaking / writing 105) |
MSU Mankato IELTS Waiver for Indian Students
The English proficiency requirement is waived for applicants from countries where English is the sole official medium of instruction — India does not qualify by country, but Indian applicants can still route around the test in two ways.
- Route 1 - US transfer credit: Completion of one semester of Freshman English Composition I at a US institution with a grade of C or better.
- Route 2 - SAT / ACT substitute (UG only): SAT Critical Reading 400 or ACT English 15.
- Note on MOI: A Medium of Instruction letter from your Indian school or college is not accepted in place of IELTS or TOEFL. If you studied at an Indian-medium school and later switched to English at Class XI-XII, plan to sit the test.
Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official MSU Mankato page for your chosen program before applying.
Minnesota State University Mankato PG Programs and English Scores
MSU Mankato offers over 78 graduate programs across six academic colleges. Base graduate tuition is USD 15,218 (around ₹14.52 Lakhs) per academic year for 9 credits per semester, and rates vary by program — see the course-wise fees breakdown for the full picture. Every row below reflects the institution-wide floor; some competitive tracks (MBA, MS Nursing) publish stricter individual cuts.
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |

| PSM Computer Science (STEM) | 2 years | Bachelor’s with CS coursework, 3.0 GPA | IELTS 6.5 / TOEFL 80 |
| MBA (Online) | 2 years | Bachelor’s, 3.4 GPA OR GMAT 500+ | IELTS 6.0 / TOEFL 61 |
| MAcc (Accounting) | 1.5 years | Bachelor’s with accounting foundation | IELTS 6.5 / TOEFL 80 |

Insider note: The PSM in Computer Science is a STEM-designated Professional Science Master’s that qualifies for the 36-month OPT extension in the US — most Indian applicants at MSU Mankato pick this over the general MS route for the additional two years of post-degree work eligibility.
MSU Mankato UG Programs and Entry Requirements
Minnesota State University Mankato offers 130+ undergraduate majors, and the tuition-plus-fees estimate for international bachelor students is USD 20,462 (around ₹19.53 Lakhs) per academic year without scholarship. The tuition-only base sits inside that figure; a full itemised breakdown, including fees and living-cost estimates, is on the university fees page.
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |
|---|---|---|---|
| BS Computer Science | 4 years | Class XII around 75% with Mathematics | IELTS 5.5 / TOEFL 61 |
| BS Mechanical Engineering | 4 years | Class XII around 75% with PCM | IELTS 5.5 / TOEFL 61 |
| BS Electrical Engineering | 4 years | Class XII around 75% with PCM | IELTS 5.5 / TOEFL 61 |
| BS Business Administration | 4 years | Class XII around 75% | IELTS 5.5 / TOEFL 61 |
| BS Aviation - Professional Flight | 4 years | Class XII around 75%, higher English | IELTS 6.0 / TOEFL 79 |

| BS Data Science | 4 years | Class XII around 75% with Mathematics | IELTS 5.5 / TOEFL 61 |
| BFA Creative Writing | 4 years | Class XII around 75% | IELTS 5.5 / TOEFL 61 |
Nursing and Aviation-Professional Flight carry stricter English floors than the institution-wide minimum, and Nursing additionally requires biology background at Class XII. Every UG major uses the same institutional deadline unless the department publishes its own priority date.
Mankato MSU MBA Admission Pathway
The MSU Mankato MBA is delivered fully online in six module rounds each year, which lets Indian working professionals overlap the degree with an existing job. Base program tuition scales per credit — see the Fees page for total-cost estimates.
MBA Admission Criteria
Applicants meet the primary threshold by clearing one of these four criteria — the MBA office does not stack them.
- Academic strength: Bachelor’s GPA of 3.40 or higher from a regionally accredited institution.
- Existing graduate degree: Prior completion of PhD, JD, DBA, MD, MS, MA or equivalent.
- Work experience substitution: Minimum five years full-time, post-Bachelor’s, progressively-responsible professional experience within the last eight years.
- GMAT floor: Score of 500 or higher — required only if none of the three above criteria are met.
MBA Priority Deadlines and Rounds
| Module | Priority Deadline |
|---|---|
| Fall Module 1 | 15 July 2027 |
| Fall Module 2 | 15 September 2027 |
| Spring Module 1 | 1 December 2026 (upcoming) |
| Spring Module 2 | 15 February 2027 |
| Summer | 15 April 2027 |
Reality check: International MBA applicants must clear IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 61, and applicants who lack an accounting, economics, statistics or finance background will need to complete 12+ credits of foundational coursework either before or alongside the MBA core.
Minnesota State University Mankato PhD Admissions
MSU Mankato is primarily a master’s-level institution; doctoral study is available in three professional tracks — the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), the PsyD in Psychology, and the EdD in Educational Leadership. All three require a completed Bachelor’s or Master’s in the same discipline, plus the graduate-tier English floor (IELTS 6.5 / TOEFL 80).
PhD Application Requirements
- Prior degree: DNP requires a Master’s in Nursing plus a US-recognised RN licence; PsyD and EdD accept Master’s-level or exceptional Bachelor’s applicants.
- Research statement: A 1,500 to 2,000-word research plan describing your intended area of doctoral study.
- Recommendations: Three academic or professional LORs, at least one from a research supervisor.
- Financial documentation: Submitted after admission is offered, for I-20 issuance.
Assistantship funding is competitive at MSU Mankato — the graduate office lists teaching, research and administrative assistantships attached to specific departments rather than a central pool. Explore the full funding options for Indian students for stipends, tuition waivers and external awards.
Planning note: The DNP program requires an active US-recognised RN licence before the F-1 visa can be issued — Indian nurses typically clear the NCLEX-RN test in the six months before Fall enrolment. Start this step before you file the MSU Mankato application.
MSU Mankato Application Process Step by Step
The MSU Mankato application runs entirely through the Minnesota State eServices portal (mnstate.edu campus ID 071 for undergraduate applicants). Graduate applicants use the separate Graduate Apply gateway. The nine-step process below is drawn from the university’s official application calendar.
- Log into eServices at eservices.minnstate.edu (UG) or the Graduate Apply portal (PG). Create your applicant profile.
- Enter personal information matching your passport exactly — name spelling errors cause I-20 delays.
- Select international visa holder status and choose F-1 as your intended visa category.
- Enter education history including Class X, Class XII and any Bachelor’s-level study, with the exact Indian board or university name.
- Choose your program and start term — Fall 2027 is the primary intake window for Indian students.
- Upload passport ID page, transcripts, English score report and financial documents to the ImageNow document portal.
- Pay the application fee — USD 40 (around ₹3,818) for graduate applicants, waived for undergraduate applicants using the promo code INTLMAV.
- Submit the application and track the file through your applicant dashboard.
- Receive your I-20 via MavMAIL after financial documentation review, then book the F-1 visa interview.
Admission decisions are typically returned within four to six weeks of a complete file, and the acceptance letter is issued with a firm reply-by date — reply within two weeks to lock your seat and trigger I-20 processing.
MSU Mankato Documents Required Checklist
Every document uploads through the ImageNow portal, and originals must be sent by post only if the university requests them after the initial review. Certified English translations accompany any transcript not already in English.
- Passport ID page — clear scan of the biodata page, valid for at least six months past intended arrival.
- Class X and Class XII marksheets and certificates (UG applicants).
- Bachelor’s transcripts and provisional degree certificate (PG applicants) with a NACES credential evaluation.
- Official English test score report — sent directly from IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or Duolingo to MSU Mankato.
- Financial documentation — bank statements, education loan sanction letter or scholarship award letter proving one full academic year of funds.
- International financial certification form — MSU Mankato’s own form, downloaded from the applicant portal.
- Statement of Purpose — 500 to 800 words for graduate applicants.
- Letters of Recommendation — two for PG; three for PhD.
- Resume or CV — required for MBA and PhD applicants.
- Optional SAT or ACT scores for undergraduate applicants (not required but reviewed if submitted).
Minnesota State University Mankato Acceptance Rate
Minnesota State University Mankato does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate on its admissions pages. The university follows an access-oriented model — meaning it admits most applicants who meet its stated academic and English proficiency floors, rather than filtering down from a large applicant pool the way selective private US universities do.
What Access-Oriented Really Means
If you clear the 75 percent Class XII threshold for UG (or 3.0 GPA Bachelor’s equivalent for PG) and hit the English test floor, you can reasonably expect an offer for general majors. The competitive filtering happens inside specific departments, not at the institutional gate.
Where MSU Mankato Filters Harder
- BS Nursing — capped intake, higher GPA and English requirements, biology background required.
- BS Aviation-Professional Flight — medical fitness, higher English and flight-hours prerequisites.
- MBA — 3.4 GPA cut-off or five-year work experience substitution.
- DNP — US-recognised RN licence gates the entire pool.
MSU Mankato’s ranking band reflects this — it sits in the regional North Universities tier rather than the national research pool, which is why the admissions posture is broad-access rather than filter-heavy. This works in favour of Indian applicants who meet the floor but do not have Ivy-tier test scores.
Insider note: Indian STEM applicants who miss the 3.0 Bachelor’s GPA by a small margin have historically been admitted with a strong Statement of Purpose plus one or two graduate-level online courses (edX, NPTEL, Coursera specialisations) added to the file — MSU Mankato reads the whole application, not just the GPA number.
USA Student Visa Process for F-1 Applicants
Once MSU Mankato issues the I-20 through MavMAIL, the Indian student process moves to the US Embassy or Consulate. The relevant visa category is the F-1 student visa. The steps are: pay the SEVIS I-901 fee of USD 350 (around ₹33,404), complete DS-160 online, pay the visa application fee of USD 185 (around ₹17,656), book a biometric appointment at your assigned VAC, then attend the visa interview at the US Consulate in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata or Hyderabad.
Financial proof must cover the first year’s tuition, fees and living costs at MSU Mankato — bank statements, loan sanction letters, or a mix of both. Sponsors submit an affidavit of support. On arrival in the United States, register with the Kearney International Center at MSU Mankato within the first week and attend the mandatory international orientation before classes begin.
2026 update: US Embassy in India visa interview slots for the Fall 2027 intake typically open in late January 2027 — book the earliest available slot the day it releases, because Fall F-1 interview wait times in India stretch to 8-10 weeks in peak May-July.

Overview
This campus is very close to home and has been spoken very highly of by alumni and many others. At my high school, we had several options as to where we were able to attend classes for PSEO (post-secondary enrollment option) which is when high school students are able to take college-level classes for both college and high school credit. Out of the 5 choices for schools I was given, MSU stood out to me the most due to the beautiful campus, medium class size (ideal for me), proximity to home and school, and great reputation. I had been told several of the other possible schools would be easier to attend but had my heart set on attending MSU for the reasons listed above and many more that made it such an appealing choice.

Overview
I decided to go to this college because it is close to home but not too close. It also has many opportunities for different majors so when I didn't know what exactly I wanted to be doing, this school was able to provide many different choices for me.
