University of Memphis admissions operate on two annual intakes with rolling document review, opening to Indian applicants who present a Class XII score of at least 65 percent for bachelor’s programs and a four-year bachelor’s degree carrying a minimum 2.75 GPA (roughly 65 percent) for master’s admission.

  • Fall 2027 primary intake: graduate applications close on 1 May 2027 and undergraduate 1 July 2027.
  • Base tuition and application fee: undergraduate base tuition USD 15,960 (around INR 15.27 Lakhs) and graduate USD 16,452 (around INR 15.74 Lakhs) yearly, with application fees of USD 50 (around INR 4,784) UG and USD 60 (around INR 5,741) PG.
  • Eligibility floor: Class XII at 65 percent for bachelor’s, four-year bachelor’s with 2.75 GPA for master’s, plus IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 80 iBT.
  • Acceptance rate: 72 percent, positioning the university as an access-oriented R1 public research school (admits most applicants meeting stated requirements).

Popular pathways for Indian students at the University of Memphis include the MS in Information Systems, the MBA at Fogelman College of Business, and the MS in Computer Science, with F-1 admits routinely citing the R1 research standing and Memphis’s lower cost base versus coastal U.S. cities as the deciding factors.

Admission Status. Open. The Fall 2027 primary intake - where most of the University of Memphis’s 55 master’s and 254+ overall programs open - accepts international graduate applications until 1 May 2027 and undergraduate until 1 July 2027 (F-1 visa holders not in the U.S.). The nearest live actionable window is the Spring 2027 undergraduate deadline on 1 November 2026, followed by Spring 2027 graduate on 1 December 2026. All applications route through the University of Memphis’s own admissions portal at apply.memphis.edu, with the application fee at USD 60 (around INR 5,741) for graduate and USD 50 (around INR 4,784) for undergraduate applicants.
Currency note: All INR figures in this article use USD 1 = INR 95.68, the live rate on 18 August 2026. Live rates may vary, so confirm with your bank before remitting.

University of Memphis Application Deadlines for Indian Students

The University of Memphis publishes distinct deadlines for two separate cycles - the application deadline for submitting the online form and the file completion deadline by which every supporting document (transcripts, English score, financial statement) must reach the admissions office. Indian F-1 applicants not currently inside the U.S. work to the earlier of the two international deadline sets published on the university’s admissions basics page, giving the international office enough time to issue the I-20 before a consular visa slot in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, or Hyderabad.

Intake Level Application Deadline Document Deadline Application Fee
Fall 2027 (Primary intake) Graduate 1 May 2027 1 July 2027 USD 60 (INR 5,741)
Fall 2027 (Primary intake) Undergraduate 1 July 2027 15 July 2027 USD 50 (INR 4,784)
Spring 2027 Graduate 1 December 2026 1 January 2027 USD 60 (INR 5,741)
Spring 2027 Undergraduate 1 November 2026 1 December 2026 USD 50 (INR 4,784)

Note: The document deadline sits weeks after the application deadline, but the international office begins issuing I-20 forms only after the file is complete. Aim to have transcripts, English scores, and the financial statement uploaded within two weeks of applying, not on the last date.

Program-specific deadlines can sit earlier than the university-wide dates. The MS Computer Science and MS Mechanical Engineering programmes, for instance, hold to 1 May for Fall entry and 1 December for Spring entry. The MPH programme closes on 15 July for Fall and 15 December for Spring. Check the specific programme department page before locking a target date.

University of Memphis Eligibility for Indian Students

Eligibility at the University of Memphis breaks down along three fronts for an Indian applicant - academic performance measured against the U.S. GPA scale, English-language proficiency measured against a standardised test, and (for graduate programmes) a standardised aptitude score where the department requires one. The university does not publish a hard rejection line for Class XII marks, but the 2.75 GPA floor for master’s admission maps to roughly 65 percent under the standard 4-point conversion Indian universities use.

University of Memphis Bachelor’s and Master’s Minimums

  • UG general entry: Class XII completion with a solid academic record (around 65 percent and above is a safe threshold); freshman admission is a comprehensive review, not a GPA cut-off.
  • UG transfer entry: cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 2.0 on 4.0, or roughly 50 percent, from prior college coursework.
  • Master’s entry: four-year bachelor’s degree with a minimum 2.75 GPA on 4.0 (around 65 percent), verified through unofficial transcripts at the review stage.
  • Doctoral entry: master’s degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA on 4.0 (around 75 percent) in the relevant field.
  • Aptitude tests: the graduate school requires GRE or GMAT for international graduate admission — verify your programme department’s policy before booking a slot.

English Proficiency Minimums at University of Memphis

Test Minimum Score Notes
IELTS Academic 6.5 overall Accepted at all levels
TOEFL iBT 80 Legacy 0-120 scale for tests before Jan 2026
PTE Academic 59 Accepted for graduate and undergraduate
Duolingo English Test 110 Accepted where uploaded
iTEP 3.9 Accepted route

Note: Indian applicants routinely convert a 60-to-65 percent Class XII aggregate to a 2.75 GPA equivalent using CBSE or ICSE percentage-to-GPA tables. The University of Memphis reviews the transcript in the original percentage grade, so you do not need to pre-convert; the admissions office runs its own conversion. Do not inflate the GPA on the application form.

University of Memphis Master’s Programs and English Requirements

The University of Memphis Graduate School lists 55 master’s programmes, 33 doctoral programmes, and 67 post-bachelor’s certificates across colleges including Fogelman (Business), Herff (Engineering), Loewenberg (Nursing), and the School of Public Health. The table below reproduces the entry floor for the master’s programmes most Indian applicants target — every English figure sits at the institution-wide minimum unless the department publishes a higher bar on its own page. Base tuition sits at USD 16,452 (around INR 15.74 Lakhs) per year for out-of-state graduate students on a full-time load; see the CD tuition by course page for the per-programme breakdown.

University of Memphis Bachelor’s Programs and Entry Requirements

Undergraduate admission is a comprehensive academic review rather than a single-number cut-off. The University of Memphis’s freshman admissions team weighs high-school GPA, curriculum rigour, and English proficiency together — there is no locked-in Class XII percentage line, but a score of around 65 percent and above is a safe threshold for most bachelor’s applicants. The base out-of-state undergraduate tuition for 2025-2026 is USD 15,960 (around INR 15.27 Lakhs) per year, with the application fee at USD 50 (around INR 4,784).

Programme Duration Minimum Eligibility English Req. Min.
Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) - Fogelman 4 years Class XII around 65 percent; comprehensive review IELTS 6.5
BS Computer Science 4 years Class XII with Mathematics studied through senior year IELTS 6.5
BS Nursing (Loewenberg College) 4 years Class XII with Biology and Chemistry; competitive review IELTS 6.5
BS Engineering (Herff College) 4 years Class XII with Mathematics and Physics IELTS 6.5
BS Psychology 4 years Class XII completion; comprehensive review IELTS 6.5

Transfer applicants (Indian students moving mid-degree from another accredited university) work to a separate 2.0 cumulative GPA minimum on the 4-point scale, translating to roughly 50 percent aggregate. International transfer candidates must additionally submit a credential evaluation from a NACES or AICE certified agency such as WES or ECE — the university does not accept raw Indian mark sheets in place of the evaluation.

University of Memphis MBA Admissions for Indian Applicants

The MBA at Fogelman College of Business and Economics is the flagship graduate business qualification at the University of Memphis, with the online delivery format listed on the Princeton Review’s Best Online MBA lineup for 2025. The programme is offered in three formats — full-time on-campus, online (asynchronous), and an executive-style IMBA — with concentrations available in Finance, Healthcare Management, Supply Chain Management, and Data Analytics. Indian applicants work to the same graduate international deadlines: 1 May 2027 for Fall entry and 1 December 2026 for Spring entry.

MBA GMAT and GRE Policy at University of Memphis

The Fogelman MBA requires a GMAT or GRE score as part of the international graduate application. Indian applicants targeting the on-campus MBA typically present GMAT 550 and above or GRE 305 and above (verbal + quantitative) to run competitive for the merit funding pool, alongside a 2.75 undergraduate GPA and the standard IELTS 6.5 / TOEFL 80 English floor.

MBA Experience Requirements and Interview Stage

Full-time MBA candidates are welcomed without a mandatory work-experience minimum, but two-plus years of full-time professional experience strengthens the application materially. The Executive and IMBA tracks are structured for mid-career applicants and expect a longer runway of professional work. There is no compulsory interview stage for the on-campus MBA, but the admissions committee reserves the right to call a shortlisted candidate for a video interview where the application requires clarification.

Note: Indian applicants routinely stack the funding for Indian students — the Graduate Non-Resident Merit Scholarship at USD 4,200 (around INR 4.02 Lakhs) per year — on top of a graduate assistantship offer from the Fogelman department. Assistantships remit tuition and pay a monthly stipend; apply separately through the department after acceptance.

University of Memphis Application Process for Indian Students

The application process at the University of Memphis is a self-managed online submission — Indian applicants build the file entirely through the university’s own admissions portal at apply.memphis.edu. There is no central platform (Common App is not the accepted route for Memphis graduate applicants, and UCAS is not applicable to the U.S.), so the portal login is your single point of coordination for both the application form and document uploads.

  1. Create an account on apply.memphis.edu — one login covers both graduate and undergraduate international applications, filed under the correct programme code.
  2. Complete the online application form in one sitting or across multiple sessions, entering academic history, English test scores, target term, and F-1 immigration status.
  3. Pay the application fee of USD 60 (around INR 5,741) for graduate or USD 50 (around INR 4,784) for undergraduate on the same portal via international card.
  4. Upload unofficial transcripts and mark sheets covering every year of prior study — admission decisions are made on the basis of unofficial transcripts at review stage.
  5. Submit English proficiency scores — IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 80 iBT, PTE 59, or Duolingo 110 — sent directly from the testing agency where required.
  6. Upload the Certificate of Finance documenting funds for the first academic year of tuition plus living expenses.
  7. Track the status through the Graduate Status Portal or Tiger Tracks Portal (undergraduate); the international office issues the I-20 form electronically once the file is complete and the decision is favourable.

University of Memphis Admission Decisions and Deferrals

Decisions at the graduate level are released rolling as departments review complete files. Once admitted, the offer letter arrives with the I-20 form attached electronically. Applicants who need to shift terms can defer twice; a third change requires a fresh application.

University of Memphis Documents Required for Indian Applicants

Documents required for a University of Memphis international application are lighter than at many Ivy or coastal U.S. universities — the file review runs on unofficial transcripts at the decision stage, with official documents required only after enrolment. Every item below is uploaded through the online portal; nothing is couriered upfront.

  • Valid passport bio-data page scan (matching the name on the application).
  • Unofficial transcripts for every year of prior academic study, with a clearly shown cumulative percentage or GPA.
  • Class XII mark sheet (for undergraduate applicants) or bachelor’s degree certificate and consolidated mark sheet (for graduate applicants).
  • Official English proficiency score report — IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo, or iTEP — sent from the testing agency.
  • GRE or GMAT score report where the programme department requires one (mandatory for Fogelman MBA).
  • Statement of purpose (SOP) and academic CV or resume for graduate programmes.
  • Two or three letters of recommendation (LORs) from academic or professional referees, submitted online.
  • Certificate of Finance — bank statement plus sponsor affidavit covering first-year tuition and living expenses.
  • Credential evaluation from a NACES or AICE agency (WES, ECE) for transfer undergraduate applicants only.
  • Digital passport-size photograph uploaded to the portal.

University of Memphis Acceptance Rate for Indian Students

The University of Memphis reports an institution-wide acceptance rate of 72 percent, one of the higher intake rates among U.S. R1 public research universities. This is an access-oriented admissions posture — the university accepts most applicants who meet the stated academic, English, and financial requirements, rather than rejecting to a target class-size ratio. For Indian applicants, this means a well-prepared file with a 65-percent bachelor’s or Class XII score and the IELTS 6.5 floor sits comfortably inside the admit zone. Full trend data is on the CD acceptance rate trend page.

Programme-Level Selectivity at University of Memphis

The university-wide 72 percent obscures the variance across colleges. The MBA at Fogelman, the PhD in Clinical Psychology, and the Loewenberg BS Nursing programmes admit at meaningfully lower rates due to cohort caps, GRE or GMAT requirements, and (for Nursing) clinical placement constraints. Indian applicants targeting these programmes should treat 72 percent as the university’s floor of admissibility, not the department’s line.

USA Student Visa Process for University of Memphis Admits

Indian admits to the University of Memphis apply for the F-1 student visa at the U.S. consulate in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, or Hyderabad. The process begins the moment the I-20 form arrives electronically from the international office. Applicants pay the SEVIS I-901 fee of USD 350 (around INR 33,488), complete the DS-160 non-immigrant visa application, pay the MRV visa fee of USD 185 (around INR 17,701), book a consular slot, and attend the in-person interview with the I-20, DS-160 confirmation, funding proof, and the University of Memphis admission letter in hand.

Financial proof at the interview must match the funding figure on the I-20 — enough for the first academic year of tuition and living expenses. All admitted international students are additionally required to hold U.S. health insurance in effect on the first day of classes; coverage is arranged on arrival through the University of Memphis International Student Services office.

Note: The U.S. embassy in India continues to publish standard wait times for F-1 interview slots on its consular services page. Book the interview slot within a week of receiving the I-20 rather than waiting for the semester to approach.

Tuition cost was least even though still have loans. Other schools in the area were too expensive. Cost per hour was cheapest here. Other places were 1k it more. I don't appreciate these costs. Public colleges should be free.

The large campus, but small class sizes. The ratio of students to the professor was comfortable for being able to network and make connections. The class times were easily manageable. Most importantly the tuition was cheaper than my home state.
