San Diego State University International Admissions

International Student Center is the body responsible for the admission process of the international students in the university. This is a global university as it almost acts as a crossroad for students from other countries seeking educational opportunities at SDSU, and for SDSU students seeking educational opportunities internationally.

Following are the requirements for international students seeking admission in SDSU:

  • Applicants must submit official transcripts/grade reports for each year of study completed to the SDSU Office of Admissions.
  • If the transcript or academic record is not issued in English, the applicant will be required to send a certified literal English translation of each document. The translation must be word-to-word from the original language to English.
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 or higher is required of the applicant.
  • The applicants must submit their SAT or ACT Scores

Language Requirements for International Students

International students must provide proof of English proficiency by completing one of the following requirements:

  • iBT TOEFL score of 80 or pBT TOEFL of 550 or higher.
  • IELTS overall score of 6.5 or higher.
  • PTE score of 58 or higher.
  • SDSU’s American Language Institute’s Level 106 English language course with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.

San Diego State University Undergraduate Admissions

Undergraduate admission decisions are initially based on self-reported data on the application, so the university does not need the applicant’s transcripts until after they are admitted. The applicants must provide complete and accurate information on their application.
If admitted, transcripts will be used to verify the self-reported information and any misreporting will jeopardize the admission status of the student.

The required admission criterion as a first-time freshman applicant is that the applicant must complete the 15-unit comprehensive pattern of college preparatory courses with letter grades of C- or higher.

The applicants should plan ahead and apply early to maximize their chances of admission and eliminate any chances of missing the deadlines. They should have the following items on hand before beginning the application process:

  • Unofficial transcripts.
  • Social Security Number, if applicable.
  • Citizenship status.
  • Credit card.
  • Annual income (parents income or their own income; whatever is relevant).
  • If applying to the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP): Parent's employment background and two recommendations.
  • SAT/ACT scores
