- Winter, MN has extreme temperatures
- Crime rate has slightly increased compared to before, students have to always look out for them and friends.
- Safety, a lot of theft, gun violence is around
- I opted for off-campus housing, which is very common at UMN.
- I found my accommodation through WhatsApp, Telegram, and Facebook groups for UMN Indian students—those communities are honestly gold. My rent was around $600–700 per month, including utilities, Wi-Fi, and in-unit laundry.
- The biggest challenge was avoiding scams and finalizing housing from abroad. I’d recommend starting early, verifying leases, and connecting with seniors. I lived about 10–15 minutes from campus, and most Indian students stay near Dinkytown, Stadium Village, or Prospect Park.
