Alcorn State University International Admissions

The academic requirements for international applicants remain the same as domestic students, however, there are certain specific requirements that are unique only to international applicants.

Application Portal: The students intending to apply for the Alcorn State University are required to either download an application form from the university’s website or file an online application.

Academic Requirement:

  • Official Transcripts: Official transcripts from previously studied institutes needs to be submitted for evaluation. The evaluation is supposed to be done course by course, by a certified credential evaluation services. Any National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) member can be selected by the student for this purpose.
  • ACT: The applicant is required to submit valid ACT (American College Test) scores with a composite score of 21 or higher
  • SAT: In the absence of ACT scores, SAT scores are accepted. The student is required to have a minimum of 990 or higher on the SAT in order to be considered for admission.
  • English Proficiency: All nonnative English speakers are required to submit proof of English proficiency. Alcorn University only accepts TOEFL as proof of English proficiency.

Supporting Documents: In addition to the prerequisites mentioned above, applicants must submit official high school/college transcript giving an account of the programs taken, an MMR immunization proof and copy of Social Security Card.

Furthermore, all international applicants must submit:

  • Financial evidence: All international students are required to show evidence of sufficient financial aid prior to arriving at the campus.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Applicants are required to submit a minimum of two letters of recommendations along with their application form

Alcorn University Undergraduate Admissions

Domestic students seeking admission as a freshman applicant needs to fulfill certain admission requirements, which are discussed below:

Application Portal: Applications can be either submitted online through the online application portal or through offline mode by downloading and submitting a paper application.

Academic Requirements: Students are required to have a minimum GPA of 3.2 or a GPA of 2.5 with an ACT score of 16 or higher or a GPA of 2.0 with ACT scores of 18 or higher.

Supporting Documents: Applications should be supported with the submission of the following documents:

Alcorn State University Graduate Admissions

Application Portal: To submit an online application, an applicant needs to log in to the official website and complete the form through their online portal. Alternatively, a paper application can also be submitted.

Academic Requirement: Standardized tests including GRE, PRAXIS I/ CASE & II OR GMAT scores are required based on the course requirement.

Additionally, international applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English by sending the scores of TOEFL.

Supporting Documents:

  • Resume: According to the field of interest, a resume tailored to the specific department has to be submitted.
  • Statement of Goal: Some departments require the students to submit a statement of goals.
  • Official Transcripts: Official transcripts from all universities previously attended, along with the test scores are to be submitted to the Graduate Office
  • Credential Evaluation: The credentials must be evaluated course by course by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).
  • Affidavit of Financial Support: An affidavit and a bank statement not older than three weeks showing adequate funds to meet the University's assessed tuition and cost of living have to be submitted.
  • Letters of Recommendation: The University requires applicants to submit two letters of recommendations along with their application
  • Tuberculosis Chest X-ray: A Tuberculosis Chest X-ray performed at a US facility Centre not older than six weeks has to be submitted.

While applying at Alcorn State University, applicants must ensure that they have all the official documents required for admission along with the standardized test scores. These documents should be mailed straightforwardly to the ‘Office of Admissions’.

Alcorn recommends the students to complete applications minimum 30 days prior to the course start date. After completing the applications, students are intimated about the admission decision within 1-3 days only.
