The Lamar University campus sprawls across a 292-acre campus at Beaumont, about 90 miles east of Houston and 25 miles west of Louisiana. It is one of the fastest-growing universities in the Texas State University System. The highlights of the campus include the following:

Housing Facilities at Lamar University

Lamar University guarantees on-campus accommodation to all full-time, first-year students. The Cardinal Village hosts modern apartment-style residence halls in a 2-person/3-person suite-style housing ranging from 2019 USD to 2992 USD/semester. The meal plan options range from 1397 USD to 1678 USD/semester

  • Students can apply online in the StarRez housing portal including the meal plan selection with a down payment of 150 USD before July 30, 2020.
  • The Fall and Spring enrolled first-year students must live on-campus for the Fall & Spring semesters and only Spring semesters respectively.
  • The Resident Incentive program offers a housing credit of 400 USD to eligible LU residents
  • Students living off-campus without any exemption grants should move to residence halls and are billed for the whole academic year.

Lamar University offers programs in various fields of Science, Engineering, Health, Management, and Arts. About 139-degree programs in bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels apart from minor, certificate and pre-professional programs are offered at Lamar University. Application Process

International admissions for undergraduate and postgraduate programs at Lamar University are open for the Fall, Spring and Summer sessions. The university mandates international students to meet additional academic and non-academic requirements to secure admission to the offered programs in spite of the similar admission process for both domestic and international students. 

How To Apply: Prospective international applicants can submit online applications through the ApplyTexas system. However international freshmen and transfer applicants must submit the respective applications.

International applicants should apply well in advance of the application deadlines to allow time for visa interview appointments at the U.S. Embassy /Consulate.

  • The official report of course-by-course evaluated transcripts of all secondary and post-secondary work sent directly to Lamar University by the evaluating agency at LUAdmTran@Lamar.edu for undergraduate and all graduate admissions except College of Engineering and College of Arts and Science
  • Officially certified and originally signed transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended for graduate admissions in College of Engineering and College of Arts and Science
  • Official English translations of all academic records
  • SAT/ACT scores issued to Lamar University directly by the testing agency
  • GMAT score for MBA program and GRE score for all other postgraduate programs sent directly by the testing agency
  • Copy of passport and affidavit of financial support and bank statements sent to internationaladmissions@lamar.edu upon receiving the Letter of Acceptance
  • Proof of IELTS/TOEFL/ PTE sent directly to LU from the testing agency. The minimum score requirements to demonstrate English proficiency are tabulated as follows:

Scholarships

LU offers nearly 10 million USD as a financial-aid to deserving students in the form of more than 2000 scholarships for international students to study in the US. Most scholarships are merit-based while other factors such as academic major, leadership ability and specialized skills are also considered for the awards.

Graduate Studies Competitive Scholarship:

Full-time enrolled international graduates with a minimum CGPA:3.0 are selected by their respective departments for the academic competitive scholarships. They receive a scholarship ranging from 2000 USD to 3000 USD, disbursed in increments of 500 USD, not exceeding 1,000 USD/ year.

Graduate Studies Competitive Scholarship IN-State Tuition Waiver:

International students granted a minimum of 1000 USD from the Graduate Studies Competitive Scholarship qualify for this waiver which is awarded competitively.

International Peace scholarship:

Selected women from foreign countries enrolled for full-time admission are awarded scholarships to pursue graduate studies in the US and Canada.

Undergraduate Studies Scholarship:

All international undergraduate applicants can apply for the university-wide scholarship based on the academic merit by submitting a scholarship form before February 1 of the following academic year

Academic Department Scholarships:

Deserving international students can also apply to their respective departments for merit-based scholarships in addition to the Teaching and Research assistantships

Good Neighbour Scholarship Program:

The scholarship offers an exemption of a year’s tuition fees for students from other nations of the Western Hemisphere. Students should apply for the program before March for awards of the Fall Semester.

Work-Study Programs

Lamar University provides on-campus employment to F1 students with a valid I-20. They are permitted to work for 20 hours/week during school sessions and full-time during vacations. International students are also offered on-campus employment in their respective academic department job openings.
