Course Curriculum

10

  • Computer Science is practial based course. UWM has a good practical based approach. Labs are really good. CS is little bit difficult here because you have show up in the class. you cannot skip the classes because professor takes quizzes and they have high weightage.
  • 9 Credits are mandatory which has 3 courses 3 credits each. you can take more. I suggest not to take more than 3 courses because it will affect you on campus job opportunities.
  • Talking about negative aspects, Some professors has different acccent. some asian professors accent are really bad, you doesn't understand sometimes.
  • If you have taken 3 courses you will usually go the college 3 times in a whole week. Each course has 1 to 2 hour class. Usually 20 to 30 students in class. Most good part is there are lots of american students. Indians are less. You will see great diversity. During fall 2025 I had only 3-5 Indian students in my class for each course.

Admission Experience

  • University of Wisconsin is a R1 Research University. It has great faculty and almost all the CS Professors are PHD Graduate from Universities like Purdue, ASU ,UC Berkley, CMU.Quality of education and Fascilities are exceptional than others universities. Most important... On Campus Jobs.
  • I had 7 band in IELTS and I didn't give the GRE.To be eligible you can check their MS CS Requirement page. They need Core CS Subjects like OS, Data Structures and Algorithms and Design and analysis of Algorithms, Compiler Construction and Networking subjects taken in your bachelors.
  • I applied for Fall 2025.  I don't have 4 years of engineering degree but most of the Universities need 4 years of bachlors. That's why I didn't give GRE.Hence I applied to those universities admits the students based on courses you took into your bachlors degree.
  • It took 2 months for a decesion for UWM. My university takes longer i dont know why. I got the offers from other universities within 20 days. But UWM took 2 months for a decesion. But no worries you extend your date to accept the offer by requesting the university.
  • I applied to 5 colleges.  Steaven's Institute of Technology, NJ - Admitted  CSU Fresno - Conditional Admission - Required GRE after coming to US. Cleveland State University - Rejected Needs 4 years of Engineering Degree - I have 3 years of BSC In Computer Science. University of Wisconsin Milwaukee - Admitted. City University of seattle - Admitted.

Faculty

10

  • Faculty is really great. I don't know the extact number. Classroom are big like theatre. They have mic and sound system and projectors. Professors has self made course materials. They are really good materials with graphics and colors. You will understand more.
  • If you get good grades, the professor will approach you for teaching assistantship. Get good grades and build good projects professor will give your referel in companies like Microsoft. Yes it is true. Prof Boyland, Prof Mahsa have good relationships with several companies like Ansys, Microsoft and Milwaukee Tools and their reference works.

Campus Life

10

  • We have 3 major campus. Ex. Engineering Building (we call it EMS Building), Modern Chemical Engineering building has a world class labs, Lubar Buisness hall where all the buisness related programs they teach.
  • Student Union building where all the events happens. University has a 3 hostels. Sandburge Hall, Riverview Halls and Cambridge Commons. All are great but expensive. Go there if you are rich.
  • Events in UWM are really good. We have a different event each week. Lots of Free Food. People are so welcoming. You will meet a lots of American people there. Highly Diverse University.
  • UWM has a team for soccer, American football, Baseball and they play internationally. You will get opportunity to participate and you can play for university.

Part Time Jobs

  • There are 3 categories in MS Computer Science - Thesis, Project and Professional. If you are a thesis or Professional then you will have a opportunity to get a RA and TA Positions. And yes almost every Thesis and Professional students gets a opportunity for TA and RA position. I don't have a thesis program. I am a regular student. My friends are having thesis and they usually get paid around 20 to 25 $ a hour plus they get scholerships so your college fees gets reduced. There are lots of Campus jobs are available. I got the job before coming to the US.
  • I work in a College Bar Gausthaus as a bartender. College has a Burger king, Taco bell and lots of Cafes. Also, in college hotels there are good positions which doesn't off even gets Off in summer like service desk jobs. I got the one. Hourley pay is 11 to 12 a hour and if you are lead then its 14$ a hour. In summer you can work 40 hours. So you will earn lots of money. 20 Hours for international student and 25 for a local students. It's easy now. Because of few international students.

Placement

10

  • University has a good reputation so you will get the interviews from META and Google. My roommates got the call from META and Microsoft. Today's situtation is like companies are rarely hiring international students. Its not university's fault. But yeah job market is very critical. You have to prepare hard. I know some students got the Job in Milwaukee tools and Microsoft and other companies as a AI Enginner. One of my friend's name is Yash Zode (AI Enginner). They are getting paid like 90,000$ on avg a year.
  • You will get the calls. But some companies are having their job requirements like apply if you have Green Card or you should be a US Citizen. Yes its true.
  • University has a on campus placements. Yes its true. University is really trying hard for a students. University arranging Job fair every 6 months in Student Union. You won't see any FAANG companies but yeah companies like Milwaukee Tools, Rockwail Automation, Northwestern Mutual and US Bank comes On Campus and hire students. Not bad. If you have a skills you can get a job.

Accommodation

Off Campus

  • TC Global Consultancy helped me to find the accomodation. If you are new student then you should get a Park 1824. They have their website. As a new student in UWM I suggest Park 1824. It is just 10 mins walking distance far from the University. You will get it in affordable price if you book 2 months before. I have got it for 599$ per month with own room and separate bathroom. You can set your preferance for example if you are indian and you want to live with Indian people only then you have that options. Additionaly, If any student is leaving the apartment then it will not affect you because you are going to pay for your room not for all apartment like usually student does.
  • Moreover, You will get furniture, Bed and Mattress and Table and Chair in 599$.

Exams

  • I didn't need to give a GRE. But maybe in 2026 Universities can ask for GRE.
  • Documents which I needed are, SOP, LOR and good CV. If you have work experience then it would be better. Get SOP from professor who has PHD in your course area. I took a SOP from my professors from Annasaheb Magar College, Hadapsar, Pune. They have PHD In Computer Science from Savitribai Phule Pune University which has a great reputation.
  • Also you need to show finance. I showed the Loan sanction letter and my parents saving in the form of Fixed Deposit which is important. It should cover 1 year of College Fees plus daily expenses. I didn't give any interview for the University addmission process.

Fees

  • My fees are like around 15k Dollers for each semester. Fees varies based on which course you are taking. College says 26k dollers a year but you have to pay around 15000 dollers a semester for MS CS Student.
  • Monthly expense goes around 600$ on average if you are sharing apartment. But I have single room so I pay 650 for a apartment and extra 100 for a groceries. Hence my total monthly expense is 750$. But you get a on campus job easily so you usually gets 850$ per months so don't need to be worried.

Scholarship

  • I didn't recieve any scholarship but you can apply if you have a good GRE Scores.
  • Bachelors students usually gets scholarships based on their SAT Scores. My 2 international friends got it from India about 15 thousand dollars. I don't about the exact number of students get the scholarship. But yes this college gives you the scholarship if your academics and GRE or SAT scores are good.
