Binghamton University fees for Indian students in 2026-27 stand at $28,970 (INR 27.77 Lakhs) per year for undergraduate international programmes and $23,790 to $29,340 (INR 22.79 Lakhs to INR 28.11 Lakhs) per year for graduate international programmes. The most popular Masters for Indian students are MS Computer Science, MS Data Analytics, and MS Electrical and Computer Engineering, all charging the base graduate international rate of $23,790 (INR 22.79 Lakhs) per year.

The Fall 2027 intake opened on 01 August 2026 with a hard deadline of 01 April 2027, and this is the primary route for Indian applicants planning for realistic F-1 visa processing time. Spring 2028 opens later as the backup intake for those who miss the April cut.

  • Undergraduate international tuition: $28,970 (INR 27.77 Lakhs) per year
  • Graduate international tuition, base rate: $23,790 (INR 22.79 Lakhs) per year
  • Graduate international tuition, higher band (MBA and select professional): $29,340 (INR 28.11 Lakhs) per year
  • Tuition deposit to secure the I-20: $300 (INR 28,743), credited to first-semester tuition
  • Presidential and Provost merit scholarships for undergraduates: $5,000 to $15,000 (INR 4.79 Lakhs to INR 14.37 Lakhs) per year

A two-year Master's at Binghamton totals roughly INR 84 Lakhs to INR 95 Lakhs, including tuition, living, health insurance, and F-1 visa costs, while a four-year undergraduate degree totals approximately INR 1.72 Crore. All rupee values in this article use the live conversion rate below.

Fall 2027 Intake: Application Window Just Opened

Intake: Fall 2027 (August 2027 start) is now open and is the realistic entry for Indian students, allowing full time for F-1 visa processing which typically takes 4 to 8 weeks after I-20 issuance. Spring 2028 (January 2028 start) is the backup intake for late applicants.

Fee update: Fall 2027 admits are billed at the 2027-28 tuition rate, expected to be roughly 3 to 4 percent above the current $28,970 undergraduate and $23,790 graduate base. Lock the currently published rate by watching the Bursar page in early 2027.

When to pay: A $300 (INR 28,743) enrolment deposit is due within 30 days of your admission letter to trigger I-20 issuance. Full instalment schedule and payment methods are covered in the payment section below.

Scholarships: Graduate Departmental Assistantships (TA and RA) are decided alongside admission for Fall 2027; apply by the 15 January 2027 priority date. External Indian awards such as Inlaks, JN Tata Endowment, and KC Mahindra open between January and March 2027.

Exchange rate used throughout: 1 USD = INR 95.81.

Binghamton University Tuition Fees by Programme

Binghamton University charges a single international tuition rate across programmes within each level, with a modest premium for MBA and select professional graduate degrees. The tuition figure covers instruction only; college fees, health insurance, and a technology fee are billed separately and totalled in the Total Cost section.

Undergraduate Fees for International Students

Undergraduate international tuition is $28,970 (INR 27.77 Lakhs) per year for all majors across Watson College of Engineering, Harpur College of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Management. Application fees is separate, which is around $50, and non-refundable.

Note: The graduate annual rate assumes 12 credits per semester (full-time). Students on a lighter 9-credit part-time load pay a per-credit rate of roughly $991 (INR 94,948), which extends the programme by a semester and rarely saves money once college fees are added. Full-time enrolment is also mandatory to hold F-1 status.

Binghamton University Fee Trend by Year

Binghamton International tuition has risen at the SUNY board-approved rate of roughly 3 percent per year over the past three cycles, well below the US national private-university average of 4 to 5 percent. This makes budget planning across a four-year undergraduate degree more predictable than at most private US universities.

Academic Year UG International (USD) UG International (INR) Year-over-Year Change
2024-25 $27,320 INR 26.18 Lakhs Base
2025-26 $28,130 INR 26.95 Lakhs +2.97%
2026-27 $28,970 INR 27.77 Lakhs +2.99%
2027-28 (projected) $29,840 INR 28.60 Lakhs +3.00% (est.)

Key Insight: Your Fall 2027 admission will be billed at the 2027-28 rate, roughly $870 (INR 83,354) higher per year than the current 2026-27 rate for undergraduates. Over a four-year degree that translates to an additional cost of about INR 3.34 Lakhs compared with a hypothetical fee freeze, so budget the higher figure from the start.

Cost of Living at Binghamton University for Indian Students

Vestal and the wider Binghamton area sit in Upstate New York, where living costs are 30 to 40 percent lower than New York City and 15 to 20 percent lower than Boston. Binghamton University’s own Cost of Attendance page estimates $17,930 to $19,600 (INR 17.18 Lakhs to INR 18.78 Lakhs) per year for room, board, and personal expenses, which is realistic for most Indian students.

Expense Monthly (USD) Monthly (INR) Annual (INR) Notes for Indian Students
On-campus room and board $1,500 INR 1.44 Lakhs INR 17.25 Lakhs Includes a meal plan; cheapest option in Year 1
Off-campus rent (shared apartment) $550 INR 52,696 INR 6.32 Lakhs Downtown or University Plaza; splits 2-3 ways with roommates
Groceries and cooking $300 INR 28,743 INR 3.45 Lakhs Indian groceries at Patel Cash & Carry, Endicott
Utilities and internet $120 INR 11,497 INR 1.38 Lakhs Split across roommates off-campus
Transport (BC Transit pass included) $50 INR 4,791 INR 57,486 Free bus system for students with ID
Phone and personal $150 INR 14,372 INR 1.72 Lakhs Mint Mobile or T-Mobile prepaid plans work well
Total (off-campus estimate) $1,170 INR 1.12 Lakhs INR 13.45 Lakhs Assumes shared 2BHK, self-cooked meals

Note: First-year international undergraduates are required to live on campus, so the $17,930 (INR 17.18 Lakhs) room-and-board figure is unavoidable in Year 1. From Year 2 onwards, moving off-campus to a shared apartment cuts your living costs to about $14,000 (INR 13.41 Lakhs) per year, a saving of roughly INR 3.77 Lakhs annually.

Currency Tip: Your first tuition instalment is due at Fall 2027 registration in August 2027. Book a forward-contract remittance in March or April 2027 through Wise, Instarem, or Niyo to lock in the USD-INR rate; this typically saves 1.5 to 2.5 percent compared with a same-day SWIFT wire at the deposit deadline.

Graduate students are exempt from the on-campus requirement and can move off-campus immediately, which is the single largest cost lever for Master's candidates. Most Indian MS students split a two-bedroom near the BC Transit route in Vestal or Johnson City and spend closer to the $13.45 lakh annual figure.

Total Cost of Studying at Binghamton University

The all-in first-year budget for an Indian student at Binghamton is $47,530 (INR 45.54 Lakhs) for undergraduates and $42,350 (INR 40.57 Lakhs) for a base-rate Masters. This includes tuition, mandatory college fees, on-campus room and board (UG) or off-campus rent (PG), health insurance, and F-1 visa costs.

Scenario Tuition Living Mandatory Fees Total Year 1 (INR)
BS Computer Science (UG, on-campus) $28,970 (INR 27.77 Lakhs) $17,930 (INR 17.18 Lakhs) $3,180 (INR 3.05 Lakhs) INR 48.00 Lakhs
MS Computer Science (PG, off-campus) $23,790 (INR 22.79 Lakhs) $14,040 (INR 13.45 Lakhs) $3,180 (INR 3.05 Lakhs) INR 39.29 Lakhs
MS Data Analytics (PG, off-campus) $23,790 (INR 22.79 Lakhs) $14,040 (INR 13.45 Lakhs) $3,180 (INR 3.05 Lakhs) INR 39.29 Lakhs
MBA (School of Management, off-campus) $29,340 (INR 28.11 Lakhs) $14,040 (INR 13.45 Lakhs) $3,180 (INR 3.05 Lakhs) INR 44.61 Lakhs

Across a full four-year undergraduate degree, the total lands near INR 1.95 Crore, and a two-year Master's programme lands near INR 78 Lakhs to INR 90 Lakhs, depending on the programme. A typical education loan of INR 60 Lakhs at 10.5 percent for 10 years works out to an EMI of approximately INR 81,000 per month, and an 80-Lakh loan works out to roughly INR 1.08 Lakh per month.

Note: A Graduate Departmental Assistantship at Binghamton typically covers full tuition plus a stipend of roughly $18,000 (INR 17.25 Lakhs) per year, effectively bringing the net two-year MS cost down to just living overheads of about INR 15 to 20 Lakhs. Applying by the departmental priority date of 15 January 2027 for the Fall 2027 intake is the single highest-value action for MS candidates.

Binghamton University Scholarships for Indian Students

Binghamton offers merit-based scholarships to international undergraduates automatically at admission, with no separate application form. Graduate students access funding primarily through departmental assistantships awarded alongside admission.

Scholarship Level Value (USD) Value (INR) How to Apply
Presidential Scholarship Undergraduate $10,000 to $15,000 per year INR 9.58 to 14.37 Lakhs Automatic on admission, top academic profile
Provost’s Scholarship Undergraduate $7,500 per year INR 7.19 Lakhs Automatic on admission

Graduate Research Assistantship PG (MS, PhD) Full tuition + $18,000 to $22,000 stipend Up to INR 42 Lakhs total value Faculty-led, apply directly to research advisors

Beyond university-administered awards, Indian students at Binghamton frequently secure external Indian scholarships that stack on top of departmental funding. These require separate applications during the January to March 2027 window for Fall 2027 disbursement.

Scholarship Value Level Deadline (Fall 2027)
Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation Up to $100,000 (INR 95.81 Lakhs) total PG only Mid-March 2027
JN Tata Endowment Loan-Scholarship INR 10 Lakhs (partial loan) PG End-March 2027
KC Mahindra Scholarship Up to INR 10 Lakhs PG End-March 2027
Narotam Sekhsaria Scholarship Up to INR 20 Lakhs (interest-free loan) PG Mid-April 2027
Aga Khan Foundation 50% grant, 50% loan PG End-March 2027

Tip for Indian Students: For your Fall 2027 target, submit MS applications by 15 January 2027 to be eligible for Graduate Departmental Assistantships (the single most valuable award), then submit Inlaks, JN Tata, and KC Mahindra applications in February-March 2027 so both funding tracks resolve before your April visa preparation window.

Binghamton University Tuition Deposit and Payment Options

A non-refundable enrolment deposit of $300 (INR 28,743) secures your seat and triggers the I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status, the document needed for the F-1 Student Visa). The deposit is credited to your first-semester tuition, so it is not an additional cost. Binghamton uses Flywire as its official international payment provider, alongside domestic ACH transfer and paper cheque. Wire fees through Flywire average $15 to $25 with locked FX, versus $30 to $50 plus a hidden 2 to 3 percent FX margin on a standard SWIFT wire from an Indian bank.

Methods of Payment

  • Flywire (recommended for Indian students): locked USD rate, tracked from India, arrives in 2 to 5 business days
  • Bank wire transfer (SWIFT) from an Indian bank: 3 to 7 business days, higher hidden FX margin
  • Forex card loaded with USD (HDFC Multicurrency, Niyo Global): useful for the smaller enrolment deposit
  • Education loan disbursement (SBI, HDFC Credila, Avanse, Prodigy Finance): direct disbursal to Binghamton via SWIFT
  • ACH transfer from a US bank account: relevant only after you arrive on campus

Steps to Pay Your Binghamton University Tuition

  1. Accept your admission offer through the applicant portal within 30 days of receipt
  2. Pay the $300 (INR 28,743) enrolment deposit via Flywire or credit card
  3. Receive your I-20 by email and courier, then book your F-1 visa slot at the US Consulate
  4. Pay the first-semester tuition balance by the Bursar deadline, typically 15 August 2027 for Fall 2027
  5. Retain every payment receipt and Flywire confirmation for your F-1 visa file and later loan disbursement records

Binghamton also offers a Time Option Payment Plan (TOPP) that splits each semester’s tuition into four monthly instalments for an enrolment fee of roughly $40 (INR 3,832) per semester. This is useful when loan disbursement lags the Bursar deadline by a few weeks.

Tip for Indian Students: For a Fall 2027 admit, initiate your Flywire tuition transfer by 25 July 2027 to hit the 15 August 2027 Bursar deadline comfortably. Indian bank wire clearances slow down significantly in the peak August remittance window, so building in a 3-week buffer prevents last-minute late fees of $50 (INR 4,791).

Hidden Costs of Studying at Binghamton University

For your Fall 2027 preparation, the most time-sensitive hidden costs are the SEVIS I-901 fee of $350 (INR 33,534) and the F-1 visa MRV fee of $185 (INR 17,725), both due before your visa interview in April to June 2027.

  • SEVIS I-901 fee: $350 (INR 33,534), one-time, paid to the US Department of Homeland Security before the visa interview
  • F-1 Visa application fee: $185 (INR 17,725), paid at the US Consulate
  • Mandatory international health insurance: $2,500 (INR 2.40 Lakhs) per year, auto-billed by SUNY, waiver rarely approved
  • Winter clothing setup: $400 to $600 (INR 38,324 to 57,486) for jacket, boots, thermals, and gloves for Upstate NY winters that drop to minus 20 Celsius
  • Initial apartment setup: $800 to $1,200 (INR 76,648 to 1.15 Lakhs) for bedding, kitchenware, security deposit, and first-month rent if off-campus
  • TOEFL or IELTS retake: $200 (INR 19,162) if score is below the Binghamton minimum on first attempt
  • Textbooks and course materials: $1,000 (INR 95,810) per year, or roughly half that via second-hand and library rentals
  • Domestic travel (JFK-Binghamton): $150 to $250 (INR 14,372 to 23,953) per trip for the Coach USA bus or ShortLine service

Budget approximately INR 4.5 Lakhs to INR 6 Lakhs for first-year hidden costs on top of tuition and living.

Note: Indian families most often forget the mandatory international health insurance of $2,500 (INR 2.40 Lakhs) per year, which is billed automatically to your Bursar account each semester and is virtually impossible to waive. Add it to your loan sanction request from Day 1, or you will scramble for a top-up loan mid-semester.

Plan your Binghamton budget around a total of INR 78 to 90 Lakhs for a two-year Masters, or INR 1.95 Crore for a four-year undergraduate degree. A Graduate Departmental Assistantship applied for by the 15 January 2027 priority date can cut your MS net cost to INR 15 to 20 Lakhs, and a typical INR 60 Lakh education loan carries an EMI of roughly INR 81,000 per month over ten years, well within OPT-era earnings. Your single most important action this cycle is submitting your Fall 2027 application before the 15 January 2027 departmental funding deadline.

  • Since on campus was expensive i took off-campus housing. There were many whatsapp and fb groups and from there i found an apartment to rent
  • My monthly rent was $400 excluding wifi
  • Since I am vegetarian, finding vegetarian roommates to share the apartment was the most difficult
  • Yes, university have whatsapp groups always start there. FB are great but there are lot of scammers too so be sure of it before making any payment
  • About a 40 min bus drive; Most of them stay off campus near downtown.

  • Masters students have to choose off campus. I sublet a room from a friend i made during the application process. I used to pay $350/month for rent. There are many websites, apartments.com, rent college pads. There are many property managers in Binghamton. My accommodation was 3-4 miles away. I had to take the campus bus. It used to reach in 10-15 minutes.

  • On-campus housing is not allowed for graduate students. Off-campus housing is the only option. There are many people who sublease their apartments, post messages on social media, agencies that provide housing, etc. Finding accommodation is not very difficult in the city.
  • The monthly rent starts at $430 and goes up to $650, including all utilities.
  • I didn't face any challenge, and finding accommodation was also pretty smooth for me.
  • Recommendations for future students are to not sign a lease, come here in July, take a sublease, and then look for properties. 1 month is enough to find yourself a good space to live.
  •  It's a 15-minute drive from my place to the university. All students live in the permitted housing zone for students, so everyone lives in the same area, especially Indian students.

  • I found accommodation through an online platform associated to university and real estate agents. I lived off-campus. My monthly rent averaged around USD 450-500 which included personal room, furniture, TV, wifi, kitchen, electricity, water.
  • The key challenge was to find housing through reliable sources to trust, safe neighborhood, ease of commute to the university, affordable cost. My accommodation is 25 mins away from the university using university transport bus.

  • Join telegram or facebook groups of any university. You will find people there who help you finding apartments whether its sublease or whether its some agency who will help find you safe homes
  • Monthly rent is 400-450$ including utilities + everything for fully furnished (washer , dryer , tv , oven , dish washer and what not)
  • No challenges encountered there are lot of people you can find on LinkedIn in who are studying currently or who are passed out from any university you going in. Ask them they wont refuse to help you
  • For accomodations , just find it between 400-475 $ for my city . Going above that amount is just foolishness because you can easily find a very good apartment in the same range.
  • My accommodation is 3 miles away. But here that's not a case because every 20-25 minutes , public transport and university buses are running (free of cost)

  • I have used the Binghamton housing groups on Facebook, while also looking for real estate agents and connected with students studying at the university for options regarding accommodation
  • My monthly rent was $425 and it included facilities like electricity, water, gas, wifi, heater/AC and it was a furnished house with all the equipment like having a bed, cupboard, closet, a table and a chair in every room while also having basic necessary things like oven, gas stove, fridge, a tv in the house
  • It would take a 10-15 min drive to the campus. Most of the Indian students stay at the west side of Binghamton

  • I find my accommodation through - whatsapp groups
  • The monthly rent for your accommodation, and facilities were included-$450/month
  • Challenges I encountered while finding or securing your accommodation -Nothing. It was smooth. Students are helpful here.
  • Based on my experience, i recommend for future students seeking accommodation – Start searching early to get good accommodation.
  • Quite far my accommodation from the college campus- 3 - 4 miles, but College bus will be available at regular intervals.

Apart from an excellent academic track record and advanced labs. I wanted to work with a professor there. The professors are very supportive but at the same time will push you to test your limits
