A correct equation must be balanced: by the law of conservation of mass, the number of atoms of each element must be the same on both sides.

A decomposition by heat is thermal, by light photolytic (2 AgCl → 2 Ag + Cl2), by electricity electrolytic. A double displacement giving an insoluble solid is a precipitation reaction.
