Class 8 Athletics Chapter Map

Chapter 3 divides athletics into three broad actions: running, jumping and throwing. It begins with crouch start and reaction control, then moves to long jump, high jump and putting ball.

Running Skills in Chapter 3

The crouch start is used for sprint races up to 400 metres. The runner places the stronger foot on the front block, rises on the set command and drives both legs hard at the start.

Cadence means steps taken per minute. Students can use it while discussing stride rhythm in Chase and Tag or Reaction Game.

Jumping and Landing Skills

Long jump uses approach, take-off, flight and landing. High jump uses a J-shaped approach and safe landing. Both skills need controlled speed, strong take-off and body balance in air.

Common mistake: Students often slow down before take-off. That reduces distance and height. The better method is to keep controllable speed and plant the foot quickly.

Putting Ball and Practical Assessment

Putting ball introduces shot-put basics with a medicine ball. The ball stays near the neck, the chest lifts and the leg extends during release. Students are assessed on starts, running, long jump, high jump, shot put and overcoming self-distress.
