Mr. Anurag Choubey is the Founder of Clat Gurukul, Patna. An educationist, mentor and true leader, Mr. Choubey for the last 7 years, with his scientific approach, has been channelising the efforts of aspiring law graduates in the right direction paving their path to get admitted to the best law schools of India. He is a qualified professional with graduation in engineering, management and law, and has also completed international courses such as CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) and FRM (Financial Risk Management).

What key factors motivated you to join the education sector?

“The novelty and services in the profession”

Education is widely regarded as the most noble profession. The factor that motivated me the most was the impact a teacher could leave on his/her students’ and the society at large. Culturally as well, a teacher has always been given the supreme place in Indian Social System and therefore, building a career in this profession has always been my first choice.

How would you describe your leadership style?

“Taking right people and motivating them for the purpose”

I believe in a Flat Organization. To ensure smooth functioning of the organization, we select right people and instil in them a burning desire to excel by motivating them and taking them in confidence with respect to every important decision or initiative that we

take. We at CLAT Gurukul value their suggestions which in turn gives them a sense of belongingness for the organisation. This can’t be done just by preaching but rather by being assiduous in achieving every single objective oneself.

How do you strategize the key programs for the marketing of Clat Gurukul?

“Regular and interactive user communication building”

Every program or plan is made by keeping the target audience in mind. We ensure that the communication we make with our audiences leave a wonderful and long lasting impression about the institute. Be it the seminars conducted at different schools or any of the online activities, we always make it a point to effectively deliver all our communication. There is generally an online campaign that is launched before any such

program. After every program we generally try to collect feedback and also try to incorporate the suggestions that we get.

How does CLAT Gurukul ensure the best development of the students?

“Nurturing and mentoring each aspirant individually”

One feature that makes us stand out from the crowd is that we provide Individual Attention to every student. We firmly believe that, although every student who joins us has a common goal, every student is different in his requirements and approach. Apart from providing the high-quality classes in both the Offline as well as Online Mode, we regularly conduct motivational classes and assign a mentor to every student. The mentor and student are in regular touch wherein the student shares his difficulties and the mentor tries to get them addressed on priority basis. This also addresses the problem of inhibition which stops many students raising doubts or sharing their difficulties.

What do you think your roles and responsibilities towards the students are?

“Fostering growth, counseling and academic setup”

My primary responsibility is towards ensuring stupendous growth and a safe learning environment for the students. I participate in activities that foster student growth and boost their confidence like conducting motivational sessions regularly, mentoring students and ensuring other mentors are performing their duties well. I also plan the entire academic session with the help of the faculty team and execute it rigorously to serve best to our students. I conduct team meetings to improve our systems and processes as well.

When you founded CLAT Gurukul, what was your vision for the platform?

“Creating equality among law aspirants”

When I founded CLAT Gurukul, my vision was to reduce the urban-rural division among students with respect to Law Entrance exams, especially the 5-Year ones, by making it a popular choice among students from rural backgrounds as well. CLAT used to be an exam of the elitists. But now, things are changing and an ever-increasing number of students from rural areas are also joining the course. In hindsight, I feel satisfied that I have contributed to this phenomenon in a big way by providing as much free content on the digital platform as possible.

What do you see as your coaching institute’s greatest strengths?

“Effective teaching process and quality learning content”

Our greatest strength is that apart from providing an intense and high-quality coaching to students, we are able to provide Individual Attention to our students. We keep their parents and guardians in loop during the preparation process and provide quality coaching best to our capabilities. We have never run after numbers and that is why we have been able to stress upon quality. Also, we have the highest selection ratio in India and we provide the most well researched content to our students.

What are some of the biggest challenges you see for higher education?

“Adapting to emerging changes of digitalised world”

I believe that the biggest challenge for higher education is adapting to the emerging scenario where skill-based education is being preferred over degree-based education. Our universities are primarily providing degrees and still not focusing on skill based training and advanced research. This might make them redundant in near future as students are getting more oriented towards acquiring skills rather than degrees. Apart from this, some other prominent challenges are improving quality, inadequate research and poor infrastructure and facilities. While talking about challenges faced by the coaching industry, the first thing that comes to my mind is getting acclimated to the new normal of online coaching. There is an urgent need to shift focus towards digitization of education and the way classes are delivered. Seamless delivery and giving a near classroom like experience to the students is the major challenge. Also, emergence of new EdTech companies which have attracted big investors and are gobbling up the smaller players have also thrown new challenges to the conventional coaching industry.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth?

“Focus and determination with a lot of hard work makes you successful”

Dream big and stay focussed to your goal. Be determined to achieve your mission and leave no stone unturned in your path. Remember, there are no shortcuts. It is sheer hard work and smart work that will make you stand out and succeed.
