Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme for Students of UTs of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh (PMSSS) was established in the 2011-12 academic year to allow youngsters from the Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh to pursue higher education outside of the UTs. It promotes access to high-quality education to provide the youngsters with the knowledge, skills, experience, and training necessary for good career prospects.
The scholarship awarded is used to cover the costs of academic fees and living expenses of the students (for hostel, mess, books and other incidentals). Scholarships are available for normal General/Professional Medical Degree courses in the AICTE Portal's prescribed list of colleges. To qualify for Medical Degree courses, students must take admission on their own subject. The AICTE conducts centralized counselling and admissions on a merit basis. Students who pass national level entrance exams administered by Central State Governments, including NEET, JEE, CLAT, and others, are eligible for scholarships if they register on the AICTE Portal.
Students wishing to enrol in Architecture courses must pass the NATA examination. The J&K and Ladakh UTs' reservation guidelines are followed. Aadhar Card is also required for efficient DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS).

PMSSS Scholarship 2021: Objectives
- To provide academic fees and maintenance allowances to students from Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh who, after passing class XII or equivalent examinations, secure admission in government colleges/institutions and other selected institutions with NBA, NAAC, and NIRF rankings, as well as other Centres of Excellence outside the State of J&K. (now UTs).
- To develop the youth of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh's potential through educating, enabling, and empowering them to compete at a national level.
- To foster national integration by educating the youth of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh to the culture, language, and way of life of other Indian states.
PMSSS Scholarship 2021: Eligibility Criteria
- The student should be a resident of the J&K and Ladakh Union Territories
- The student should have passed the 10+2 examination from a JKBOSE or CBSE accredited school in the Union Territories of J&K or Ladakh.
- The student should have passed a 10+3 Diploma from Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh Polytechnic for direct admission to second-year registration/counselling will be done subject to vacancies in the prescribed list of Institutions in the preceding academic year.
- The student should meet the institution's/minimum university's age and other eligibility requirements.
- The student’s family's annual income should not exceed INR 8.00 lakh to be eligible.
The student is not eligible for a scholarship, if
- He/She is not through the AICTE Portal's online registration.
- The Open University offers this course.
- He/She is making use of various government/non-government schemes
- Other than those listed in the AICTE Portal, admission to the course is through Management Quota Joined Institutions.
- A Student is pursuing a Diploma or PG program of any kind
- Agents and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are used to get admission.
- The student was not present during the counselling session.
- Joined institutions other than assigned, the student will not be eligible.
Mandatory Conditions for Availing Scholarship:
- Within the Prescribed Time Frame, Register Online
- On the scheduled dates, attend Online Counselling
- Document verification at the nearest Facilitation Centre
- Join the designated institution and submit the joining report by the deadline.

PMSSS Scholarship 2021: How to apply?
Step 1 – Registration
Candidates must first register on the official website using an active mobile number and email address. The verification link will be provided to the same email address, and the candidate must click on it to confirm.
Step 2 – Filling Application Form
After completing the registration process, the candidate must log in using the same login user-id and password that was provided in the confirmation email. Step 3 – Uploading of Documents
The candidates are required to upload the documents in scanned form in this phase. Candidates should maintain a scanned copy of their documents and be equipped to upload them while filling out the form. Step 4 – Preview of Application Form
After completing the application form, candidates are advised to review it before submitting it, as there will be no additional opportunities for candidates to correct inaccuracies in the application form, and the same information will appear in the PMSSS Merit list.
Step 5 – Submitting the Application Form
Now, after reviewing all of the information in the application and making all of the necessary modifications, the candidate can submit the application form in an online manner.

Ans. The format and size of the photo and signature should be uploaded to the J&K PMSSS Scholarship website in JPG/JPEG format, with a photo size that should not exceed 200 KB and signature size should not exceed 50 KB.
Ques. Is it important to submit a different online application for a General & Engineering course for PMSSS Scholarship?
Ans. If candidates want to apply for both the General and Engineering Streams under J&K PMSSS Scholarship, they must select “Both” from the dropdown menu under the “Stream applied for” area while submitting an online application.

Ans. Yes, all students who want to accept admission on their own or through centralized counselling to take advantage of the scheme's benefits must attend counselling for the General/Engineering/Medical stream.

Ans. After completing and submitting the PMSSS Scholarship form the students need to take a printout of their completed online application and bring it to the nearest facilitation centre, together with original documents and one set of self-attested photocopies (Xerox) of all original papers, as soon as the centers open.
