The University of Queensland Application Deadlines and Intakes for Indian Students
UQ runs two main intakes a year. Semester 1 starts in late February and is the primary intake, with the widest program coverage. Semester 2 starts in late July and carries most coursework programs but fewer cohort-based ones. UQ accepts applications up to two years in advance, so the Semester 1 2027 window is already live for Indian applicants targeting a February 2027 start.
The University of Queensland’s primary intake for Indian students is Semester 1 (February) — most programs open here, per the UQ international applicants page.
| Intake | Level | Applications Open | Deadline | App Fee | Portal |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Semester 1 2027 (Feb) Primary intake | UG and PG coursework | Open now | 30 November 2026 | AUD 150 (INR 9,762) | apply.uq.edu.au |
| Semester 2 2026 (Jul) | UG and PG coursework | (Closed) | 31 May 2026 (Closed) | AUD 150 (INR 9,762) | apply.uq.edu.au |

| PhD international round | Higher Degree by Research | Open now | 19 October 2026 | No separate fee | apply.uq.edu.au |
Planning note: UQ’s MBA, Dentistry, and select health programs are limited-place. Submit at least eight weeks before the published deadline so a conditional offer leaves room for IELTS retake or transcript reissue.
The University of Queensland Eligibility for Indian Students
UQ’s eligibility runs on two tracks: an academic threshold tied to your Class XII board or Bachelor’s GPA, and an English language threshold via IELTS or a recognised equivalent. Both must be met before an unconditional offer is issued.
Undergraduate academic floor
- CBSE or ICSE Class XII: minimum 70 percent overall, with required subjects met.
- State board Class XII: minimum 85 percent overall.
- Prerequisites: Engineering needs Mathematical Methods plus Physics or Chemistry; Commerce needs Mathematical Methods; Science varies by major.
- Higher cutoffs apply to competitive programs such as Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours) and Bachelor of Veterinary Science.
Postgraduate academic floor
- Bachelor’s GPA: minimum 5.0 on UQ’s 7-point scale, which maps to roughly 65 percent in the Indian system.
- Discipline-relevant Bachelor’s for programs such as Master of Data Science 1.5-year track and Master of Computer Science.
- MBA: GPA 4.5/7 (around 60 percent) plus four years of full-time work experience, two of them in a management role.
What is the minimum English score for Indian applicants?
UQ’s institutional minimum is IELTS Academic overall 6.5 with 6.0 in all sub-bands, and the IELTS One Skill Retake result can be combined with your original sitting. Equivalent test floors are TOEFL iBT 87 overall and PTE Academic 64 overall with 60 in sub-bands. Cambridge C1 Advanced is also accepted. Higher floors apply to Dentistry, Medicine, Education, Speech Pathology, and Pharmacy.
The University of Queensland IELTS waiver for Indian students
UQ does not grant a Medium-of-Instruction waiver for Indian Class XII, since India is not on UQ’s designated English-medium country list. Senior secondary schooling completed in a designated English-medium country (such as Singapore for some boards, the UK, or Ireland) can be used as evidence in place of a test score. Indian applicants who completed a previous Bachelor’s degree at an accredited institution where instruction was in English may also submit that record for review, though approval is program-specific.
Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official UQ page for your chosen program before applying.
The University of Queensland Postgraduate Programs for Indian Students
Most Indian PG applicants at UQ cluster in computing, data science, business, and engineering management. Base tuition for coursework Masters starts at AUD 58,056 (around INR 37.78 Lakhs) per year for most STEM programs and rises for the MBA. Full cost detail by program sits in the course-wise fees breakdown.

The University of Queensland Undergraduate Programs for Indian Students
UQ’s undergraduate intake for Indian students concentrates in Engineering, Commerce, Science, and Computer Science. Most Bachelor’s programs run three years; Engineering (Honours) runs four years and follows the Washington Accord, which is recognised by India’s accreditation bodies for further engineering registration.
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) | 4 years | Class XII at 70 percent (CBSE or ICSE) with Mathematics and either Physics or Chemistry | IELTS 6.5 |
| Bachelor of Commerce | 3 years | Class XII at 70 percent (CBSE or ICSE) with Mathematics | IELTS 6.5 |
| Bachelor of Computer Science | 3 years | Class XII at 70 percent (CBSE or ICSE) with Mathematics | IELTS 6.5 |

| Bachelor of Biomedical Science | 3 years | Class XII at 75 percent (CBSE or ICSE) with Chemistry and either Biology or Physics | IELTS 6.5 |
Insider note: Indian Class XII applicants who studied under a state board need 85 percent overall to match the CBSE 70 percent threshold. UQ rolls state-board marks to its own conversion scale, so a borderline state-board score is worth verifying with UQ before applying.
The University of Queensland MBA Admissions for Indian Students
The UQ MBA is an 18-month full-time program delivered at the St Lucia business school. Indian applicants form one of the largest international cohorts. Base tuition for 2026 is AUD 69,112 (around INR 44.98 Lakhs) per year. Funding options sit on the funding for Indian students page.
UQ MBA eligibility for Indian applicants
- Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with GPA 4.5 on a 7-point scale, mapping to around 60 percent in the Indian system.
- Four years of full-time work experience, with at least two years in a dedicated supervisory or management role.
- GMAT minimum 550 is required for international applicants. UQ does not currently publish a GRE alternative for the MBA.
- IELTS Academic overall 6.5 with 6.0 in each sub-band, or an accepted equivalent.
UQ MBA application rounds and interview
The MBA follows the standard UQ international calendar with two intakes. The UQ MBA page tracks live program-specific updates.
| Round | Intake | Application Deadline |
|---|---|---|
| Round 1 | Semester 1 2027 (Feb) | 30 November 2026 |
| Round 2 | Semester 2 2027 (Jul) | 31 May 2027 |
Shortlisted applicants are invited to a structured interview conducted by the UQ Business School’s MBA director or a senior faculty panel. Interviews are usually held over video conferencing for Indian applicants, typically within four weeks of submission, and assess motivation, leadership trajectory, and post-MBA goals.
Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official UQ page for your chosen program before applying.
The University of Queensland PhD Admissions for Indian Students
UQ runs research admissions as a Higher Degree by Research, covering the PhD and Master of Philosophy. Indian applicants need a supervisor agreement before submitting, since UQ filters all HDR applications through the proposed advisory team.
UQ PhD application steps
- Identify a Principal Advisor in your research area and exchange a research proposal before the application opens.
- Submit two referee reports; current advisors may serve as referees.
- Submit by 19 October 2026 for the international round leading to Research Quarter 4 2027 or early 2028 commencement.
- Outcomes are issued from 22 February 2027 for this round.
UQ PhD funding for Indian students
The Graduate School Scholarship including the Research Training Program (RTP) is the main funding route. For the 2026 academic year, the living allowance is AUD 37,500 (around INR 24.41 Lakhs) per year, tax-free and indexed annually, alongside a tuition-fee scholarship and Single Overseas Student Health Cover. The tenure is 3.5 years with the possibility of one extension. International recipients must be in Australia when offers are issued.
Insider note: Indian PhD candidates targeting UQ should approach faculty around six to nine months before the October round. A supervisor’s written endorsement weighs heavily in the central scholarship ranking and is the single biggest predictor of an RTP outcome.
The University of Queensland Application Process and Decisions for Indian Students
UQ runs a centralised online application for coursework programs. Five exception programs route through QTAC: both Master of Teaching pathways, Master of Nursing, Master of Social Work (Qualifying), and graduate-entry Diplomas in Arts and Science.
- Create an account on the apply.uq.edu.au portal and select your program.
- Complete the personal, academic, and English-language sections.
- Upload certified transcripts, passport bio page, and English test score.
- Pay the application fee of AUD 150 (around INR 9,762) on the apply.uq.edu.au portal. The fee is non-refundable.
- Submit and retain the confirmation email for tracking and reply use.
- Track progress through the portal until a decision is issued.
UQ admission decision timeline
- Most coursework outcomes are issued within four weeks of a complete submission.
- Limited-place programs (Dentistry, Veterinary Science, MBA) can take longer due to interview and ranking stages.
- Conditional offers usually require either an English re-test, final-year transcript, or financial-capacity evidence.
- Offer acceptance requires a tuition deposit (one semester’s fees) and triggers the electronic Confirmation of Enrolment, which is mandatory for the visa application.
- Deferral is allowed for up to one year on most coursework programs, subject to written request before semester start.
The University of Queensland Documents Required for Indian Students
Indian applicants should assemble the document set before opening the portal, since UQ does not allow facsimile or scanned-only transcripts for the final offer stage. All academic records must be in English, with certified translations attached where the original is not.
- Certified Class X and Class XII mark sheets and pass certificates, board-issued.
- Bachelor’s degree transcripts for each semester, with the consolidated mark sheet for postgraduate applicants.
- Degree certificate or provisional certificate if your transcripts do not show conferral date.
- Passport bio-data page, valid for the full duration of intended study.
- IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE score report sent electronically to UQ.
- GMAT score report for MBA applicants, sent through the testing service.
- Statement of Purpose tailored to the program of choice.
- Curriculum vitae for postgraduate and MBA applicants, with employer letters for the work-experience years.
- Two referee reports for HDR (PhD and MPhil) applications, submitted through the portal.
- Financial-capacity proof, requested at the visa stage rather than the program application stage.
The University of Queensland Acceptance Rate for Indian Students
UQ does not publish an institutional acceptance rate. The figure most often cited by third-party trackers sits at around 40 percent, based on competitive-intake program patterns and the share of Indian applicants who clear UQ’s 70 percent Class XII or GPA 5.0/7 thresholds. The actual conversion rate varies sharply across faculties.
Which UQ programs are hardest for Indian applicants?
Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours), Doctor of Medicine, and Bachelor of Veterinary Science are the hardest faculties for Indian admits. These run on limited cohort places and supplemental tests such as the GAMSAT or interviews. Expect higher academic and English floors than the institutional minimums.
Which UQ programs are most accessible?
Coursework Masters in Information Technology, Data Science, Business Administration (subject to GMAT), and Engineering Science typically convert at higher rates for Indian applicants who meet the published floors cleanly. Mainland-Indian board marks at 75 percent or higher generally clear the screen for most Bachelor’s programs outside Dentistry, Vet Science, and Medicine. UQ also features in the wider Australian ranking band alongside other Group of Eight institutions.
Australia Student Visa for The University of Queensland Students
Indian admits to UQ apply for the Australia Student Visa subclass 500, lodged online with the Department of Home Affairs after UQ issues the electronic Confirmation of Enrolment. The visa application fee from 1 July 2025 is AUD 2,000 (around INR 1.30 Lakhs), separate from UQ’s program fee. Processing for nominal-risk Indian applicants is typically four to eight weeks once a complete bundle is submitted.
Financial capacity must be evidenced at AUD 24,505 (around INR 15.95 Lakhs) for a year of living costs for the student, plus tuition for the first year and travel, with three-month bank statements, a loan-approval letter, or scholarship evidence. Health cover under OSHC is compulsory for the full visa duration. Post-arrival, your residential address must be updated with Home Affairs within seven days of any change.
2026 update: Australia’s Genuine Student (GS) test replaced the older GTE statement for subclass 500 applications. Indian applicants must answer targeted questions on course choice, ties to home country, and post-study plans, with truthful and consistent responses across the bundle.

The following tips are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at UQ over recent intakes.

- Book IELTS or PTE with a buffer for one re-test before deadline; UQ accepts the IELTS One Skill Retake.

- Pay the application fee of AUD 150 (around INR 9,762) through the apply.uq.edu.au portal on a card with international transactions enabled to avoid same-day failure.
