Deakin University fees for Indian students run A$43,800 to A$46,800 (INR 30.07 Lakhs to INR 32.13 Lakhs) a year at undergraduate level and A$45,800 to A$51,800 (INR 31.44 Lakhs to INR 35.56 Lakhs) at postgraduate level. The most-applied postgraduate degrees are the Master of Information Technology, Master of Data Science and Master of Cyber Security, each at A$45,800 (INR 31.44 Lakhs) a year.

Applications are open for Trimester 1 2027 in March and Trimester 2 2027 in July. Your realistic entry is Trimester 1 2027, because a first Australian student visa from India needs several weeks of processing and Trimester 3 2026 starts on 2 November 2026.

  • Bachelor of Information Technology: A$43,800 (INR 30.07 Lakhs) a year
  • Bachelor of Commerce: A$46,800 (INR 32.13 Lakhs) a year
  • Master of Information Technology, Data Science or Cyber Security: A$45,800 (INR 31.44 Lakhs) a year
  • Master of Business Administration, online only: A$51,800 (INR 35.56 Lakhs) a year
  • Vice-Chancellor's International Scholarship: 100% or 50% tuition reduction

A two-year Master of Information Technology costs A$91,600 (INR 62.88 Lakhs) in tuition alone. A three-year Bachelor of Commerce costs A$140,400 (INR 96.38 Lakhs) at the 2027 rate.

All INR figures use 1 AUD = INR 68.65.

Trimester 1 2027 Intake: Planning Window Open

Intake: Trimester 1 2027 (March) and Trimester 2 2027 (July) are both open and both achievable. Trimester 3 2026 starts 2 November 2026 and is not workable for a first visa from India. Deakin sets country-specific closing dates, so the Indian close differs from other markets.

Fee update: The 2027 commencement-year rates apply to both intakes. Undergraduate sits at A$43,800 to A$46,800 (INR 30.07 Lakhs to INR 32.13 Lakhs). Postgraduate sits at A$45,800 to A$51,800 (INR 31.44 Lakhs to INR 35.56 Lakhs).

When to pay: Your Letter of Offer names the amount due on acceptance, and that payment releases your Confirmation of Enrolment. Allow two weeks for an international transfer to clear.

Scholarships: The three Deakin merit awards are assessed automatically at admission and carry no separate deadline. Only the Vice-Chancellor's International Scholarship needs its own form.

Deakin University Tuition Fees by Programme

Deakin quotes one annual figure per course, built from eight credit points of full-time study. Your actual invoice moves with the units you pick.

Undergraduate Fees: Trimester 1 2027

Undergraduate degrees run three years, which is one year shorter than the four-year norm in Canada and the United States.

Programme Annual (AUD) Annual (INR) Course total (INR)
Bachelor of Information Technology A$43,800 INR 30.07 Lakhs INR 90.21 Lakhs
Bachelor of Commerce A$46,800 INR 32.13 Lakhs INR 96.38 Lakhs
Bachelor of Law A$47,000 INR 32.27 Lakhs INR 94.32 Lakhs
Bachelor of Nursing  A$45,800 INR 31.44 Lakhs INR 1.29 Crore

Postgraduate Fees: Trimester 1 2027

The three information technology masters degrees share an identical A$45,800 rate. The Master of Business Administration sits A$6,000 higher.

Programme Duration Annual (AUD) Course total (INR)
Master of Information Technology 2 years A$45,800 INR 62.88 Lakhs
Master of Data Science 2 years A$45,800 INR 62.88 Lakhs
Master of Cyber Security 2 years A$45,800 INR 62.88 Lakhs
Master of Business Administration 1.5 years A$51,800 INR 53.34 Lakhs

Note: The Master of Business Administration is listed with Online as its only location. Australian regulations block student visas for online Deakin enrolment, so this degree cannot bring you to Melbourne. Choose a campus-delivered masters if relocation is the point.

Cost of Living in Melbourne

Budget A$29,710 (INR 20.40 Lakhs) a year as your floor. That is the living-cost figure the Department of Home Affairs requires a single student visa applicant to evidence.

Deakin publishes no cost-of-living breakdown of its own. Its international fees page directs students to the Australian government's Study Australia cost of living calculator instead.

Expense Basis Annual (AUD) Annual (INR) Notes for Indian Students
Living costs, all categories Visa evidence floor A$29,710 INR 20.40 Lakhs Covers housing, food, transport and personal spend
Accommodation Included above Varies by suburb Varies by suburb Burwood, Box Hill and Camberwell price below central Melbourne
Transport Included above Varies by zone Varies by zone International students may qualify for a 50% Myki concession
Utilities Included above Bundled if on campus Bundled if on campus Deakin Residence includes utilities in the weekly fee

Currency Tip: Your first instalment falls due when you accept your Trimester 1 2027 offer. Deakin routes direct applicants through FlyWire or PayPal in Studylink. Both beat a raw bank wire on the spread, typically by 2% to 3% on a A$45,800 transfer.

Total Cost of Studying at Deakin University

Year one at Deakin runs A$76,010 to A$78,010 (INR 52.18 Lakhs to INR 53.55 Lakhs) including tuition, living costs and the visa charge.

Scenario Tuition Living Visa charge Total Year 1
Bachelor of Information Technology A$43,800 A$29,710 A$2,500 A$76,010 (INR 52.18 Lakhs)
Master of Information Technology A$45,800 A$29,710 A$2,500 A$78,010 (INR 53.55 Lakhs)
Bachelor of Commerce A$46,800 A$29,710 A$2,500 A$79,010 (INR 54.24 Lakhs)

Source: Deakin University course pages; Study Australia student visa fee schedule from 1 July 2026. The visa charge is a one-off, not annual. Overseas Student Health Cover is quoted separately in your Letter of Offer.

Across the full degree, a two-year Master of Information Technology totals roughly INR 1.04 Crore with living costs included. A three-year Bachelor of Information Technology totals roughly INR 1.51 Crore. On a ten-year education loan at 10.5%, an INR 1 Crore borrowing repays at close to INR 1.35 Lakhs a month.

Key Insight: The single controllable line is tuition. A 25% International Scholarship for Excellence cuts the Master of Information Technology from A$45,800 to A$34,350 a year, saving INR 7.86 Lakhs annually. Lock it by submitting a complete application before scholarship places for Trimester 1 2027 fill.

Deakin University Scholarships for Indian Students

Four Deakin international awards are open to Indian applicants, and three of them need no separate form. Deakin assesses merit automatically from your admission file.

Scholarship Value Saving on A$45,800 tuition How to apply
Vice-Chancellor's International Scholarship 100% or 50% tuition reduction Up to A$45,800 (INR 31.44 Lakhs) a year Separate application required
International Scholarship for Excellence 25% tuition reduction A$11,450 (INR 7.86 Lakhs) a year Automatic at admission
International 20% Merit Scholarship 20% tuition reduction A$9,160 (INR 6.29 Lakhs) a year Automatic at admission
Deakin alumni discount 10% per unit, postgraduate only A$4,580 (INR 3.14 Lakhs) a year Automatic at admission

Tip for Indian Students: For Trimester 1 2027, submit the Vice-Chancellor's International Scholarship form alongside your course application rather than after your offer. It is the only Deakin international award with its own form, and a 50% reduction is worth INR 15.72 Lakhs a year on the information technology masters.

Deakin University Tuition Deposit and Payment Options

Your Letter of Offer states the exact amount due on acceptance. Deakin does not publish a single flat deposit figure, because the amount is calculated from full-time enrolment in your specific degree.

Paying that amount is what releases your Confirmation of Enrolment, the electronic document you need before lodging a student visa application. The payment counts toward tuition rather than sitting on top of it.

Methods of payment

  • FlyWire: Deakin's named international payment route inside Studylink
  • PayPal: the second route offered at offer acceptance for direct applicants
  • Through your agent: applicants who applied via an authorised Deakin agent settle payment options with that agent
  • Education loan disbursement: arranged so funds land in the Deakin account before your acceptance deadline

Steps to pay the tuition fee for international students

  1. Accept your Deakin offer inside Studylink
  2. Read the amount due on your Letter of Offer
  3. Pay through FlyWire or PayPal, or through your agent
  4. Receive your electronic Confirmation of Enrolment from Deakin
  5. Lodge your student visa application using that Confirmation of Enrolment
  6. Keep every payment receipt for the visa file

Fees for later study periods are invoiced per trimester once you are enrolled. The invoice due date sits before each teaching period begins.

Note: For a March 2027 start, begin the transfer at least two weeks before your acceptance deadline. A delayed payment delays the Confirmation of Enrolment, and a delayed Confirmation of Enrolment delays the visa. That chain is what pushes students from Trimester 1 into Trimester 2.

Hidden Costs of Studying at Deakin University

The student visa charge is the largest single line most Trimester 1 2027 applicants forget. It rose to a starting point of A$2,500 (INR 1,72 lakh) from 1 July 2026.

  • Student visa application charge: from A$2,500 (INR 1,72 lakh), one-off, paid before you travel
  • Overseas Student Health Cover: mandatory for the full visa duration, amount quoted in your Letter of Offer
  • Textbooks and equipment: excluded from tuition, and information technology degrees carry bring-your-own-device requirements
  • Mandatory checks: police or Working with Children checks for units with placements
  • Setup costs: rental bond, furniture and a local mobile plan in your first month
  • IELTS retake: a second attempt if your first sitting misses the 6.5 postgraduate band
  • Miscellaneous Deakin fees: parking, graduation and some administrative processes are charged separately

Budget approximately INR 4 Lakhs to INR 6 Lakhs for first-year hidden costs beyond tuition and the visa charge.

Note: Overseas Student Health Cover is the line families most often miss. It must run for the whole stay, and you pay it upfront before the visa is granted. Read the figure on your Letter of Offer rather than assuming a market average.

Fee Saving Strategies for Indian Students

The highest-value lever for Trimester 1 2027 is Recognition of Prior Learning, which cuts credit points and therefore fees.

  • Claim Recognition of Prior Learning: a related bachelor's plus two years of work can drop the Master of Information Technology from 16 to 12 credit points, cutting a full trimester of fees
  • Study at Geelong Waurn Ponds: the Master of Cyber Security runs there at the same A$45,800 tuition with lower rent than Burwood
  • Take a double degree at undergraduate level: Deakin's double degrees deliver two awards in as little as one extra year
  • Live in Burwood, Box Hill or Camberwell: all price below central Melbourne with a direct campus commute
  • Claim Section 80E: Indian education loan interest is deductible without an upper limit for up to eight years
  • Use the Myki concession: international students may qualify for a 50% transport discount

Tip for Indian Students: Flag Recognition of Prior Learning on your Trimester 1 2027 application itself, not after your offer. Four credit points of credit on a A$45,800 rate is worth roughly INR 15.72 Lakhs across the degree. You will need certified copies of your previous course details to claim it.

Plan on INR 52 Lakhs to INR 54 Lakhs for your first year at Deakin, covering tuition, the visa evidence floor and the visa charge itself. A 20% or 25% merit award, assessed automatically, takes INR 6.29 Lakhs to INR 7.86 Lakhs off every year of that. Recognition of Prior Learning can remove a further trimester of fees entirely if your bachelor's is in a related field. On a ten-year loan the residual sits near INR 1.35 Lakhs a month at INR 1 Crore borrowed. Submit a complete Trimester 1 2027 application early, because scholarship places are limited and the Confirmation of Enrolment gates your visa timeline.

FAQs

Ques. How much are Deakin University fees for Indian students per year?

Ans. Undergraduate degrees run A$43,800 to A$46,800 (INR 30.07 Lakhs to INR 32.13 Lakhs) a year. Postgraduate coursework runs A$45,800 to A$51,800 (INR 31.44 Lakhs to INR 35.56 Lakhs). The three information technology masters degrees all sit at A$45,800 (INR 31.44 Lakhs).

Ques. Does Deakin increase tuition fees every year?

Ans. Yes. Deakin states that tuition fees increase annually at the start of each calendar year. Your commencement year sets the rate band you enter, and you then move up with each annual increase. The published figure on a course page is a first-year guide only.

Ques. What is the total cost of a Deakin masters including living costs?

Ans. A two-year Master of Information Technology totals roughly INR 1.04 Crore. That combines A$91,600 in tuition with the A$29,710 annual living-cost floor across two years. The one-off student visa charge of A$2,500 sits on top.

Ques. How much can a Deakin scholarship reduce my tuition fee?

Ans. The Vice-Chancellor's International Scholarship removes 100% or 50% of tuition for the whole degree. The International Scholarship for Excellence removes 25%, worth A$11,450 (INR 7.86 Lakhs) a year on a A$45,800 course. The International 20% Merit Scholarship removes A$9,160 (INR 6.29 Lakhs) a year.

Ques. When do I pay my Deakin tuition deposit?

Ans. The amount is due when you accept your offer, and your Letter of Offer states the figure. Deakin calculates it from full-time enrolment in your degree rather than applying a flat deposit. Payment releases your Confirmation of Enrolment, which you need before lodging a student visa application.

Ques. Can I get a refund if I withdraw from Deakin after paying?

Ans. Continuing international students get a 100% refund for units dropped before the third week of trimester. Dropping between the third week and the census date returns 50%. Nothing is refundable after the census date, and commencing students follow a separate schedule.

Ques. How much money must I show for an Australian student visa?

Ans. A single applicant must evidence A$29,710 (INR 20.40 Lakhs) for one year of living costs. That sits alongside proof of tuition and return airfare. The figure is reviewed periodically, so confirm the current requirement at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au before you lodge.

Ques. Is the Deakin MBA fee worth paying for an Indian student?

Ans. The Master of Business Administration costs A$51,800 (INR 35.56 Lakhs) a year over 1.5 years. It is delivered online only, and Australian rules prevent student visas for online Deakin enrolment. If your goal is relocating to Melbourne, this degree does not achieve it.

Ques. Does Deakin offer a discount to its own graduates?

Ans. Yes. Deakin graduates starting a postgraduate award course may receive a 10% reduction applied per unit. On a A$45,800 course that is A$4,580 (INR 3.14 Lakhs) a year. It applies automatically and does not require a separate form.

Ques. Which Deakin campus is cheapest to live near?

Ans. Geelong and Warrnambool both price below Melbourne on rent and transport. The Master of Cyber Security runs at Geelong Waurn Ponds at the same A$45,800 tuition as the Burwood masters. Within Melbourne, Burwood, Box Hill and Camberwell sit below the city centre.

Ques. Can Recognition of Prior Learning reduce my Deakin fees?

Ans. Yes, because Deakin charges by credit point. A related bachelor's plus two years of relevant work can reduce the Master of Information Technology from 16 to 12 credit points. That removes a full trimester of tuition. Flag it on the application itself and attach certified copies of your previous course details.

Ques. What costs are excluded from Deakin tuition fees?

Ans. Tuition excludes accommodation, Overseas Student Health Cover, textbooks, computer equipment, software, mandatory checks, travel and consumables. Deakin also charges separately for parking, graduation and certain administrative processes. Information technology degrees carry bring-your-own-device hardware requirements on top.

  • Via online platforms like Facebook Marketplace, flatmates, and Gumtree. Accommodation rent varies from place to place: near Geelong itd be from $450-$600. Near city: $600-1000. Most of the house would be furnished and ready to move in.

  • The accommodation is not provided by the college, although they have a tie-up with the external hostel service.
  • Monthly rent could be anywhere around 20,000 to 25,000 indian rupees.
  • The college would not disclose the contact information of other students, essentially making it difficult to communicate with the students to acquire the accommodation of their choice with the partner.
  • I lived in Geeta Residency 4 at Raysan. They provide most amenities and have a decent food taste for north Indians.
  • The campus is roughly 5 kilometres away from the hostel and will require a mode of transport.

  • You'll have no shortage of accommodation options or the ways to find them. There are plenty of online platforms, IM groups, and flyers to help you get your accommodation sorted.
  • Options near the university would be a bit expensive compared to distant options. Similarly, solo accommodations would be costlier compared to dorms. So choose an option that fits your budget and needs.

I had to submit my short 300 words SoP and one long detailed SoP, and a detailed CV as well. The main reason was the ranking of this university is quite good as compared to other university and the fee structure is also affordable compared to group of eight. Also the main highlight was the course i took was accredited from Australian computer society(ACS). Overall its good but the course is challenging because i do not have background of IT and the university experience is top notch like the facilities are quite good. The lecture theatre, library, medical centre, Gym are quite good. There are many cafes and vending machine in the premises where you can get variety of food ranging from continental to indian.
