University of Newcastle fees for Indian students range from A$40,450 (₹27.25 Lakhs) UG to A$47,600 (₹32.07 Lakhs) for the Master of Information Technology. The Master of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence costs A$46,550 (₹31.36 Lakhs), and the MBA is A$46,035 (₹31.01 Lakhs). These are the three most-applied PG programs at Newcastle from India.
The realistic entry for anyone applying from India now is Semester 1 February 2027, with Trimester 1 January 2027 available for the Master of Teaching programs. Direct international applications close 31 January 2027; earlier is safer given the 4 to 8 week Subclass 500 visa processing window.
A 2-year Master of IT works out to roughly ₹1.07 Crore gross (tuition + living + visa + OSHC), dropping to about ₹94 Lakhs after the 20% Excellence Scholarship. A 3-year Bachelor of IT totals about ₹1.52 Crore on the same basis. 1 AUD = ₹67.37 (xe.com, 24 July 2026 IST).
Semester 1 February 2027 Intake: Planning Window Open
Intake: Direct international applications close 31 January 2027 for Semester 1 February 2027. Trimester 1 January 2027 (deadline 15 January 2027) is open for Master of Teaching (Primary/Secondary). Both timelines allow enough runway for the 4 to 8 week Subclass 500 visa processing.
Fee update: The 2026 fee year is in force through end 2026 (Bachelor of IT A$43,940, Master of IT A$47,600, MBA A$46,035). The 2027 fee year publishes in October/November 2026 and applies to Semester 1 February 2027 entrants, expect a sector-standard 4 to 5 percent increase.
When to pay: Deposit equals one semester’s tuition (roughly A$22,000 to A$24,000, ₹14.82 to ₹16.17 Lakhs for a PG program) and is due within 30 days of your offer to secure the CoE (Confirmation of Enrolment) needed for the Subclass 500 visa.
Scholarships: The International Excellence Scholarship (20% tuition, 500 places) is auto-assessed on your offer, no separate form. External Indian awards (Inlaks, JN Tata, KC Mahindra, Narotam Sekhsaria) open November 2026 to March 2027, in time for the February 2027 start.

Newcastle bills international students per unit, so the annual sticker rate below assumes a standard full-time load of 80 units per academic year. The Callaghan campus (Newcastle NSW) houses most Indian-applied UG and PG programs; the MBA and select business PGs run from UON Sydney.
UG international tuition at Newcastle sits between A$34,390 (₹23.17 Lakhs) and A$92,695 (₹62.46 Lakhs) per year for 2026, with medicine and dentistry at the top of that range. The four UG programs Indian students most commonly apply to are priced as below.
| Programme | Annual Fee (AUD) | Annual Fee (INR) |
|---|---|---|
| Bachelor of Computer Science | A$43,920 | ₹29.60 Lakhs |
| Bachelor of Information Technology | A$43,940 | ₹29.61 Lakhs |
| Bachelor of Business | A$40,450 | ₹27.25 Lakhs |
| Bachelor of Nursing | A$44,210 | ₹29.78 Lakhs |
Application fee is nil for direct international applicants. Source: University of Newcastle International Fees and Scholarships page, verified 24 July 2026 IST.
Note: Newcastle bills per unit, not per year. A standard full-time UG load is 80 units annually (10 units per course, 8 courses). If you enrol in fewer units in a semester, that semester’s bill drops proportionally, though staying full-time is a Subclass 500 visa condition.
PG international tuition at Newcastle ranges from A$38,563 (₹25.98 Lakhs) to A$53,870 (₹36.29 Lakhs) per year for 2026. The five most-applied PG programs from India, covering IT, data, business, engineering, and nursing, are listed below.
| Programme | Annual Fee (AUD) | Annual Fee (INR) |
|---|---|---|
| Master of Information Technology | A$47,600 | ₹32.07 Lakhs |
| Master of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence | A$46,550 | ₹31.36 Lakhs |
| MBA | A$46,035 | ₹31.01 Lakhs |
| Master of Nursing | A$47,605 | ₹32.07 Lakhs |
| Master of Professional Engineering (Civil / Mechanical / Electrical) | A$49,045 to A$50,985 | ₹33.04 to ₹34.35 Lakhs |

Both UG and PG rates above are 2026 gross tuition. After the automatic 20% International Excellence Scholarship, Master of IT drops to A$38,080 (₹25.66 Lakhs) per year and Bachelor of IT drops to A$35,152 (₹23.68 Lakhs) per year, which is what most awarded Indian applicants actually pay.
Newcastle publishes its next-year international fee schedule in October or November, so the 2027 rate (which applies to Semester 1 February 2027 entrants) locks around late 2026. Below is the current 2026 rate for reference, alongside a one-year forward estimate at the sector-average 4 to 5 percent annual increase reported by Universities Australia.
| Fee Year | Bachelor of IT (AUD) | Bachelor of IT (INR) | Master of IT (AUD) | Master of IT (INR) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 (in force) | A$43,940 | ₹29.61 Lakhs | A$47,600 | ₹32.07 Lakhs |
| 2027 (projected, publishes Oct-Nov 2026) | A$45,700 to A$46,150 | ₹30.79 to ₹31.09 Lakhs | A$49,500 to A$49,980 | ₹33.35 to ₹33.67 Lakhs |
2026 rate from the University of Newcastle International Fees page, verified 24 July 2026 IST. 2027 estimate uses the 4 to 5 percent sector-average annual increase (Universities Australia), pending the confirmed 2027 schedule.
Key Insight: The Semester 1 February 2027 intake will be billed at the 2027 fee year rate, roughly A$1,900 to A$2,380 (₹1.28 to ₹1.60 Lakhs) higher per year than the current 2026 rate for a Master of IT. The Semester 2 July 2027 intake pays the same 2027 rate. Lock your admission by mid-December 2026 so you can plan against the confirmed 2027 schedule rather than an estimate.
Newcastle NSW is materially cheaper than Sydney and Melbourne, which is why UON is a common cost-conscious pick for Indian PG students. The Department of Home Affairs sets the Subclass 500 visa financial minimum at A$29,710 (₹20.02 Lakhs) per year for the primary applicant, and that is the number your bank statement must show. Actual student spend in Newcastle typically runs A$1,700 to A$2,300 (₹1.15 to ₹1.55 Lakhs) per month.
| Expense | Monthly (AUD) | Monthly (INR) | Annual (INR) | Notes for Indian Students |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rent (shared 2-3BR off-campus) | A$1,000 to A$1,400 | ₹67,370 to ₹94,318 | ₹8.08 to ₹11.32 Lakhs | Callaghan, Waratah, Warabrook are common student suburbs; on-campus (Evatt, Barahineban) runs A$300 to A$360 per week |
| Groceries | A$450 | ₹30,317 | ₹3.64 Lakhs | Coles, Woolworths, Aldi; Indian groceries at Newcastle Spice Merchants |
| Utilities and internet | A$180 to A$250 | ₹12,127 to ₹16,843 | ₹1.46 to ₹2.02 Lakhs | Shared with flatmates; NBN internet A$70 to A$85 per month |
| Public transport (Opal concession) | A$130 | ₹8,758 | ₹1.05 Lakhs | Free shuttle around Callaghan campus; concession Opal card is roughly half of adult fare |
| Mobile plan | A$40 | ₹2,695 | ₹32,338 | Boost, Amaysim, Optus prepaid all under A$40 |
| OSHC (single, Medibank guide) | A$64 | ₹4,312 | ₹51,738 | Compulsory for Subclass 500; buy for the full course length upfront |
| Personal, dining out, leisure | A$200 | ₹13,474 | ₹1.62 Lakhs | Adjust to lifestyle; Newcastle beaches and hiking are free |
Sources: Numbeo cost-of-living dataset for Newcastle NSW (June 2026), Department of Home Affairs Subclass 500 financial requirement 2026 (A$29,710/year), and Medibank OSHC guide rates 2026.
Note: Show the DHA minimum A$29,710 (₹20.02 Lakhs) per year in your bank statement even if you plan to spend less; the visa officer checks against the DHA floor, not against a realistic student budget.
Newcastle is a coastal city with a lower rent baseline than Sydney (a 90-minute train ride away), which is why Indian students who consciously pick Callaghan or Waratah shared housing routinely undershoot the DHA figure on actual spend, freeing budget for domestic travel and gear.
Currency Tip: Your Subclass 500 visa filing needs A$29,710 (₹20.02 Lakhs) parked in your name for at least 28 days before you apply, so move the funds by early December 2026 for a Semester 1 February 2027 intake. Use a forex card (BookMyForex, Niyo, HDFC Multi-Currency) for tuition transfers, it saves 2 to 3 percent over a raw SWIFT wire.
Total Year 1 cost combines tuition + living + one-time Subclass 500 visa + first-year OSHC. Below are three scenarios covering the most popular Indian applications: Bachelor of IT (3 years), Master of IT (2 years), MBA (2 years).
| Scenario | Tuition (Year 1) | Living (12 months, DHA basis) | Mandatory Fees | Total Year 1 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bachelor of IT (UG, 3 years) | A$43,940 (₹29.61 Lakhs) | A$29,710 (₹20.02 Lakhs) | A$3,268 (₹2.20 Lakhs) | ₹51.83 Lakhs |
| Master of IT (PG, 2 years) | A$47,600 (₹32.07 Lakhs) | A$29,710 (₹20.02 Lakhs) | A$3,268 (₹2.20 Lakhs) | ₹54.29 Lakhs |
| MBA (PG, 2 years) | A$46,035 (₹31.01 Lakhs) | A$29,710 (₹20.02 Lakhs) | A$3,268 (₹2.20 Lakhs) | ₹53.23 Lakhs |
Mandatory Fees = Subclass 500 visa A$2,500 (₹1.68 Lakhs, one-time from 1 July 2026) + OSHC single cover A$768 (₹51,738, year 1). OSHC for the full course length is due upfront at deposit stage.
Full-programme totals work out to about ₹1.52 Crore for the 3-year Bachelor of IT, ₹1.07 Crore for the 2-year Master of IT, and ₹1.05 Crore for the 2-year MBA, all gross. After the 20% International Excellence Scholarship applied to tuition, those drop to roughly ₹1.34 Crore, ₹94 Lakhs, and ₹92.40 Lakhs respectively. On a ₹50 Lakhs education loan at 10.5% over 10 years, EMI runs ₹65,000 to ₹70,000 per month; on a ₹1 Crore loan, roughly ₹1.35 Lakhs per month.
Key Insight: The 20% International Excellence Scholarship applied automatically to your Semester 1 February 2027 offer cuts Master of IT programme cost from ₹1.07 Crore to about ₹94 Lakhs, a ₹12.83 Lakhs saving over 2 years. On a ₹50 Lakhs loan (10-year, 10.5%), that is roughly ₹6,700 per month less in EMI. Meet the 4.0 GPA retention bar in year 1 to keep it flowing into year 2.

Newcastle’s flagship international award is auto-assessed at the offer stage, so the 20% tuition cut appears on your fee letter without a separate application. External Indian awards stack on top and can push a Master of IT down to a manageable ₹35 to ₹40 Lakhs of self-funded balance.
| Scholarship | Value | Places | How to Apply |
|---|---|---|---|
| International Excellence Scholarship | 20% tuition reduction, whole programme | 500 | Automatic on offer, no separate form. Retention needs GPA 4.0 minimum. Medicine, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Speech Pathology are ineligible. |

Every external Indian award below is open to Indian students accepted to any recognised international university, including Newcastle, for the 2027 intake cycle. Deadlines fall between November 2026 and April 2027, in time for a Semester 1 February 2027 start.
| Scholarship | Approx. Value | Indian Deadline (2027 cycle) | Level |
|---|---|---|---|
| Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation | Up to USD 100,000 (approx ₹83 Lakhs), tuition + living | Mid-March 2027 | PG only |
| JN Tata Endowment Loan Scholarship | ₹1 to ₹10 Lakhs, low-interest loan + partial grant | Late March 2027 | PG |
| KC Mahindra Scholarship | Up to ₹8.5 Lakhs (Executive Trainee award up to ₹10 Lakhs) | End March 2027 | PG |
| Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation | Interest-free loan up to ₹20 Lakhs | Late March 2027 | PG |
| Aga Khan Foundation ISP | 50% grant + 50% loan, needs-based | Late March 2027 (India cycle) | PG |
Values and deadlines follow the 2026 cycle and update annually; check each provider’s site for 2027 confirmed dates. All five require a confirmed admission letter from Newcastle before submission.
Tip for Indian Students: Submit your Newcastle direct application by end November 2026 to receive the offer letter early enough for JN Tata and Narotam Sekhsaria applications in late March 2027 (both require a confirmed admission letter). The International Excellence Scholarship itself needs no separate submission, it appears on your fee letter automatically.
The tuition deposit at Newcastle is one semester’s fees, which secures your CoE (Confirmation of Enrolment, the document needed for the Subclass 500 visa). For a Master of IT, that is roughly A$23,800 (₹16.03 Lakhs); for the Bachelor of IT, roughly A$21,970 (₹14.80 Lakhs); for the MBA, roughly A$23,018 (₹15.51 Lakhs). The deposit counts toward your tuition and is refundable minus a small administrative fee if you formally withdraw before the visa is granted.
Using Flywire or Western Union Global Pay over a raw SWIFT wire typically saves 2 to 3 percent on the transaction and locks the exchange rate at the time of payment.
Newcastle bills tuition per semester, not per year. The deposit clears one semester; the second semester’s balance falls due by that semester’s census date. Some faculties offer a modest full-payment discount if both semesters are cleared within 30 days of the CoE, though this is faculty-set and not published as a fixed percentage, confirm with your admissions officer.

Note: For a Semester 1 February 2027 intake, the deposit is typically due within 30 days of your offer, meaning December 2026 to early January 2027. Allow 3 to 5 business days for a bank transfer to clear from India, and start the Subclass 500 application within a week of receiving the CoE to keep the 4 to 8 week visa timeline on track.
Beyond tuition and rent, the first-year outlay carries several non-obvious items that catch families off-guard. Budget for these as line items, not surprises.
Budget approximately ₹5 to ₹7 Lakhs for first-year hidden costs on top of tuition and living.
Note: The most-forgotten hidden cost is OSHC bought for the full course length upfront, not just year 1. For a 2-year Master, that is A$1,536 (₹1.03 Lakhs) added to the CoE payment stack in one go, budget for it alongside the deposit.

Total programme cost is more elastic than the sticker rate suggests. The five levers below are the ones that move the needle meaningfully for Indian applicants heading into the Semester 1 February 2027 intake.
Tip for Indian Students: For the Semester 1 February 2027 intake, the single highest-value lever is confirming a trimester-run Master of IT or Data Science that finishes in 16 months instead of 24. That alone saves roughly A$14,000 (₹9.43 Lakhs) in living cost and OSHC, stacked with the 20% Excellence Scholarship for a combined saving north of ₹22 Lakhs.
A Master of IT at Newcastle costs about ₹94 Lakhs total after the 20% Excellence Scholarship, and unlocks a 3-year post-study work visa on completion, so the loan payback horizon on a ₹50 Lakhs education loan is roughly 5 years of Australian IT salary. On that math, Newcastle is a sound value pick within the Australian mid-ranked tier for Indian PG applicants.
Newcastle sits at QS World Rank 227 (2026) and THE World Rank 251 (2026), placing it in the global top 250 out of roughly 26,000 universities. It is not a Group of Eight university, but its Nursing and Engineering subject-ranks put those specific schools in the QS global top 200, which is where the value case for those programs strengthens.
Australia’s Post-Study Work Visa Subclass 485 (the Temporary Graduate Visa granting 2 to 3 years of work rights after completion) grants 2 years for a Bachelor’s and 3 years for a Master’s by coursework, in force through the 2026-27 policy year. Starting Australian salaries for IT and Data Science graduates run A$65,000 to A$85,000 (₹43.79 to ₹57.26 Lakhs) per year, well above what covers a ₹65,000 per month EMI on a ₹50 Lakhs loan.
On the standard Indian education loan at 10.5% over 10 years, a ₹50 Lakhs loan works out to ₹65,000 to ₹70,000 monthly EMI. An A$70,000 (₹47.16 Lakhs) graduate salary is roughly A$4,500 (₹3.03 Lakhs) monthly after tax, so EMI is around 22% of take-home in year 1, dropping fast as salary progresses.
Key Insight: Semester 1 February 2027 entrants who complete Master of IT via trimester in 16 months finish by mid-2028, enter the Subclass 485 (3 years) work rights immediately, and start loan EMI service on year 1 of Australian salary. Net financial payback on the ₹94 Lakhs programme cost sits at roughly 5 to 6 years of Australian earnings.
Newcastle is not the cheapest Australian university, but at ~₹94 Lakhs net (post-scholarship) for a Master’s that unlocks 3 years of Australian work rights, it is one of the better value plays within the Sydney/Newcastle corridor for Indian PG students in IT, Data Science, Nursing, and Engineering. Whether it beats a Sydney university on absolute rank depends on subject: for IT and Business, UON is materially cheaper for similar outcomes; for Medicine and Law, a Group of Eight remains the stronger pick.

Budget roughly ₹54 Lakhs for the first year of a Master of IT at Newcastle (tuition + living + Subclass 500 visa + OSHC), or ₹1.07 Crore for the full 2-year total. The 20% International Excellence Scholarship auto-applies at offer stage and cuts that to about ₹94 Lakhs. On a ₹50 Lakhs education loan at 10.5% over 10 years, the EMI is ₹65,000 to ₹70,000 per month, comfortably covered by an entry-level Australian IT salary post-graduation under the Subclass 485 work visa. Lock your Semester 1 February 2027 admission by end November 2026 to give scholarship applications (JN Tata, Narotam Sekhsaria, Inlaks, all mid-to-late March 2027) and the Subclass 500 visa (4 to 8 week processing) enough runway.
Ques. What is the annual tuition fee for international students at the University of Newcastle in 2026?

Master of IT is A$47,600 (₹32.07 Lakhs), Bachelor of Business is A$40,450 (₹27.25 Lakhs), and MBA is A$46,035 (₹31.01 Lakhs).
Ques. Is there an application fee to apply directly to the University of Newcastle as an international student?
Ans. No. Direct international applications to Newcastle carry a nil application fee for all UG and PG programs, verified 24 July 2026 IST.
Ques. How much is the tuition deposit and when is it due?
Ans. The deposit equals one semester’s tuition (roughly A$22,000 to A$24,000, ₹14.82 to ₹16.17 Lakhs for a PG program) and is typically due within 30 days of your offer. Paying it secures the CoE (Confirmation of Enrolment) needed for the Subclass 500 visa, and the amount counts toward your total tuition.
Ques. What is the International Excellence Scholarship worth and how do I apply?
Ans. The International Excellence Scholarship gives a 20% reduction on tuition for the duration of the program, with 500 places awarded annually. Assessment is automatic at the offer stage, no separate application. Retention requires a GPA of 4.0 in each year. Medicine, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, and Speech Pathology are ineligible.
Ques. What is the total cost of a Master of IT at Newcastle for 2 years?
Ans. The Master of Information Technology totals about A$158,656 (₹1.07 Crore) gross for tuition + living + Subclass 500 visa + OSHC across 2 years. After the 20% International Excellence Scholarship on tuition (saves A$19,040, ₹12.83 Lakhs), the net drops to about ₹94 Lakhs.
Ques. How much are living costs in Newcastle per month for an Indian student?
Ans. A realistic single-student monthly spend in Newcastle NSW is A$1,700 to A$2,300 (₹1.15 to ₹1.55 Lakhs), covering shared rent, groceries, transport, utilities, mobile, and personal. The Department of Home Affairs Subclass 500 visa minimum is A$29,710 (₹20.02 Lakhs) per year, which is what your bank statement must show.
Ques. How much does the Australian Student Visa Subclass 500 cost?
Ans. The Subclass 500 visa fee rose to A$2,500 (₹1.68 Lakhs) from 1 July 2026 (previously A$2,000). It is a one-time, non-refundable fee paid via ImmiAccount after you receive your CoE from Newcastle.
Ques. What is OSHC and how much does it cost?
Ans. OSHC (Overseas Student Health Cover, compulsory single-policy health insurance for the full course length) is required for the Subclass 500 visa. Medibank single cover is roughly A$768 (₹51,738) per year at 2026 rates; a 2-year Master of IT policy is roughly A$1,536 (₹1.03 Lakhs) paid upfront alongside the deposit.
Ques. Can I pay Newcastle tuition via an Indian education loan?
Ans. Yes. Newcastle accepts loan disbursements via Flywire or bank transfer directly from Indian lenders including SBI, HDFC Credila, Avanse, Axis, and ICICI. Once your loan is sanctioned against the CoE, the lender disburses to UON per instalment. Section 80E of the Indian Income Tax Act allows interest deduction for up to 8 years once repayment starts.
Ques. What are the intake options and deadlines for a 2027 entry?
Ans. Semester 1 February 2027 is the primary intake, with a 31 January 2027 direct international deadline. Trimester 1 January 2027 is available for Master of Teaching programs (deadline 15 January 2027). Semester 2 July 2027 is the follow-up intake. UON recommends applying at least 12 weeks before your intended start date, ideally 16 weeks for enough Subclass 500 visa buffer.
Ques. Can I work part-time while studying at Newcastle?
Ans. Yes. Subclass 500 visa holders can work up to 48 hours per fortnight during term and unlimited hours during scheduled breaks. Newcastle CBD hospitality and retail pays A$25 to A$30 (₹1,684 to ₹2,021) per hour, netting around A$2,000 (₹1.35 Lakhs) per month at 20 hours per week.
Ques. What is the Subclass 485 Post-Study Work Visa and how does it affect the value of a Newcastle degree?
Ans. The Subclass 485 (the post-study Temporary Graduate Visa) grants 2 years of Australian work rights for a Bachelor’s completion and 3 years for a Master’s by coursework, in force through the 2026-27 policy year. This is what lets Newcastle graduates earn Australian salary (A$65,000 to A$85,000, ₹43.79 to ₹57.26 Lakhs starting) to service the education loan while still on Australian soil, and is central to the value case for the degree.
