In the Fall of 2018, Carleton University received more than 1 lakh application for admission to its various programs. Carleton offers more than 150 programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels through its six faculties. The university also offers various diplomas, graduate diplomas, and doctoral programs.

The admission to Carleton University is strictly based on merit. Candidates need to fulfill the general and program-specific requirements to be eligible for admission. International candidates can apply to Carleton University through the official website or OUAC.

  • International students need to fill the 105F form of OUAC, to apply to Carleton University and other universities in Ontario.
  • Carleton University offers programs in both full-time and part-time mode.
  • The deadline dates for some of the programs vary at both levels of education.

Carleton University Admission Deadlines

International students are offered admission to the majority of the programs at Carleton only in the Fall Semester. Fall terms begin in early September. The deadline date for the general application for Fall admission for international students is April 1. For U.S High School students, it is June 1.

International applicants are advised to submit their application for admission at Carleton well before the deadline date as it can take up to six months to obtain a student permit to study in Canada depending on the applicants’ country.

Carleton University International Students Admission

Carleton University offers admission to International applicants strictly based on merit. International applicants have to satisfy certain additional requirements to be considered for admission at the university to complete their higher education in Canada.

Admission Requirements for International Students

  • Official transcripts of all the educational institutions attended previously.
  • Applicants will need to submit a course-by-course evaluation from WES Canada if they have received an Offer of Admission from Carleton University.
  • Letters of Recommendation(submitted electronically)
  • Personal statement
  • English Proficiency Test Score
  • Financial statement and recent bank statement.
  • Study Permit of Canada

English Proficiency Score Requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English, or who have not completed a previous degree from the university in a country where English is the first language are required to provide fluency in the English language. They can provide the score of the following English tests to study in Canada. The minimum score required to be considered for admission varies according to the level of the program opted.

Financial Requirement for International Students

International applicants have to show that they have sufficient funds to support their studies in Canada for at least one academic year. They should show approximately 30,000 USD to pay the tuition fee and take care of the cost of living.

Visa Requirements for International Students

A study permit or student visa in Canada is one of the essential documents for international applicants who are planning to study in Canada. They can apply for a study permit after they have received the admission decision from Carleton University. 

Applicants are advised to apply for the required visa/student permit as soon as possible as it may take up to six months to obtain a visa. Following documents are to be submitted for the study permit and the temporary visa:

    • Copy of the Bio page of the passport

Carleton University Graduate Admission

Carleton offers more than 100 graduate programs to its students in a full-time and part-time mode of study. Admission Deadline, requirements, and intake season of the programs vary. 

International applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree(4-years) or equivalent in a relevant field from a government-accredited institution. Applicants must also have a minimum average CGPA of “B-” with “B+” in the major subject.

Carleton University Admission Decision

Within five days of submitting the application, applicants will receive a confirmation email regarding the application from Carleton University. The mail will contain Carleton Application Number and several other details. This will enable them to access ‘Carleton Central’, where applicants can keep track of their application.

After review, if all general and program-specific requirements are met by the applicants. The applicants will need to send Original Transcripts of their high school or post-secondary studies to the university campus. Candidates will be notified about all the required documents on Carleton Central. 

After this, the applicants who are selected will be given admission offers. The next step is to accept the admission offer. Carleton University usually takes 1-2 weeks to review the application. After that, the admission offer is given based on the evaluation of transcripts and how soon it reaches the campus.
