Registration for Fall 2018 begins in early June and Fall term begins in early September. June 15, 2018 is the deadline for high school applicants to be considered for an entrance scholarship for Fall 2018. Some of the programs have their own application deadlines. Carleton University, Ontario Eligibility Criteria

Each candidate has to go through and fulfill some eligibility points mentioned below to get admission in Carleton University:

Eligibility criteria for International students-

  1. English Language Requirements

The language of instruction in the university is English. Therefore, the students need to have proficiency in the English Language. The candidate must be fluent in speaking, listening, writing and reading the language. University of Carleton accepts following test scores as a benchmark for establishing proficiency in the English Language:

  1. Program Specific Requirements

Some programs of Carleton University have some specific requirements. For instance, to pursue study in Music, one has to appear for an Audition, along with submitting the application form. Similarly, students desirous of pursuing study in the field of Interactive Multimedia and Design have to submit a portfolio showcasing their creative work. Candidates will need to fulfill such requirements to get admission into concerned programs.

  1. Academic Excellence

As the Carleton University maintains high standards of academic excellence, therefore, it expects its students to have performed well in their past academic ventures. For this, past performances of the students are checked and evaluated. Carleton University provides handsome scholarships to academically excellent students as well.

Domestic Students 

  • Students are expected to present a minimum percentage grade and prerequisite average depending on the program for which they apply.

  • Students can see the Ontario High School Admissions Chart for minimum cut-off ranges.

  • The overall average required for admission is determined each year on a program by program basis.

  • All programs have limited enrolment. Admission is not guaranteed and all requirements are subject to change.

US High School students

  • For admission in first year, the applicants who have completed Grade 12 in the United States or in a U.S. overseas school will be considered.

  • Minimum of 4 academic units must be included in grade 12 program, and at least 16 academic units must have been completed in Grades 9 to 12.

  • An average of B- or higher is required for admission. But a higher average may be required for Honours programs and some limited enrolment programs.

  • Students are required to submit SAT or ACT scores, and school grading information including pass marks with the application.

  • The application fee is same as that of international students.

Carleton University, Ontario Admission Process 

Carleton University Admission Process simple, streamlined and pre-defined. Here is how admission process at Carleton University looks like:

  • First, candidates must go through application deadlines and admissions requirements page. They must ensure that they fulfill all the requirements related to the program.

  • Next is to apply for a program by visiting the ‘International Student Application’ page of Carleton University. Application submission fee of CAD 100 will be charged.
  • Candidates can also apply through Ontario Universities Application Centre (OUAC), if they are applying to multiple universities in Ontario. A basic fee of CAD 166 will be charged apart from some additional charges.
  • Within five days of submitting the application, Candidates will receive a confirmation email regarding the application. Candidates will be given Carleton Application Number and several other details. This will enable them to access ‘Carleton Central’, where candidates can keep track of their application.
  • After this, candidates will need to send Original Transcripts of their high school or post-secondary studies to the university campus. Candidates will be notified about all the required documents on Carleton Central.
  • After this, the candidates who are selected will be given admission offers. This can also be checked at Carleton Central.
  • The next step is to accept the admission offer. Candidates can accept the offer and can further apply for residence as well.

Candidates need to have a study permit to begin their studies in Canada. After receiving the admission offer from Carleton University, candidates need to apply for study permit. For this, they can reach nearest immigration office, or the official website of Citizenship and Immigration Canada (

After getting the permit, candidates will have to submit related documents to the university. The fee payment can be made afterwards and the students will be ready to begin their studies in Carleton University.

Form 105F for International Application

As mentioned earlier, applicants can also apply to Carleton University through Ontario Universities Application Centre, or the OUAC. This allows candidates to apply to multiple universities in the state of Ontario, using a single application.

International Candidates need to fill for m105F for the application. Precisely, this form is to be filled by those candidates who: -

  • Are currently residing outside Canada, and
  • Are not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada, and
  • Are not currently attending an Ontario High School Day Program, in Ontario or abroad.

OUAC charges a basic fee of CAD 156 for this form. A fee of CAD 10 is also to be paid, which is for international processing. A supplement fee of CAD 64.50 will also be charged, if you are applying to Carleton University. You can apply to any three programs for free, but more than 3 programs will incur additional charges.

How is your application considered at Carleton University?

Carleton University processes the application in two major steps, one is Preliminary Review and second is Assessment by concerned Faculty. Although no specific information is provided on how a candidate is considered for admission, a general process of evaluating candidates looks like this: -

  • First, it is checked whether the candidate meets general admission requirements or not.
  • After this, the candidate’s application is measured against program specific requirements, as per the course opted by the candidate.
  • Further, the academic performance of the candidate is checked. Mostly, performance of past two years is taken into consideration.
