I wanted to pursue graphic design since I got to know about the course. But due to the unavailability of a proper college in my country, I decided to study abroad. I found out about OCAD University during my research process. In order to obtain admission to OCAD University, I paid an application fee of $110.
The course covered topics like the design process, drawing, photography for communication, etc in the first year. In the second year topics like typography, sustainable design, packaging design was covered, the third year and fourth year was the focused majority on the core requirements.
I found out about this college because when I was researching the different digital art programs I wanted to go to this program that really stood out. OCAD is a school dedicated to teaching future artists and creators. I also applied to Ryerson but to get into OCAD I needed a portfolio (Ryerson didn’t need one even though it was an art program) and I liked that everyone in the program would have been at a similar or higher level than me because they had been screened with a portfolio. After I got my conditional acceptance they told me I needed only a 70% average in my grade 12 years to be able to go to their school and I got an 84%.
I enjoy all my courses at the moment and I think they’re very good at OCAD at teaching you something and then giving you time in class to try it out and ask questions and learn more about the concept hands-on.
