University of Waterloo Science and Aviation Ranking 2027

The University of Waterloo does not hold a subject-level ranking in aviation or aeronautical science from major ranking bodies. In recent cycles, the University of Waterloo has experienced upward momentum, climbing to #115 globally in the 2025 edition and holding a strong #119 position in the 2026 edition. THE Rankings have placed the university at #162 globally in the 2026 World University Rankings.

Science and Aviation at Waterloo combines rigorous science with Commercial Pilot Licence training, creating a rare integrated pathway for students committed to aviation careers. Automatic scholarships for Indian students, and a four-year post-study work permit make this programme a strategic investment for engineering-minded students from India seeking pilot careers or aviation technical roles in Canada. The programme’s specialisation, moderate living costs, and clear pathway to permanent residency provide an alternative to generic bachelor’s degrees for students with aviation ambitions.

Science and Aviation FAQs

Ques. What is the difference between Science and Aviation and Geography and Aviation at Waterloo?

Ans. Science and Aviation focuses on atmospheric science, meteorology, physics, and mathematics with pilot training. Geography and Aviation combines human and physical geography with aviation applications. Science and Aviation is better for students interested in pilot careers or atmospheric science; Geography and Aviation suits students interested in air transportation systems and geographic patterns of aviation networks.

Ques. Can I earn my Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) while studying, or only after graduation?

Ans. The Commercial Pilot Licence is earned through the integrated programme during your four-year degree. Flight training occurs alongside academic coursework; you graduate with both your Bachelor’s degree and your CPL. Additional endorsements (multi-engine, type-rating) may require post-graduation training depending on airline requirements.

Ques. Are there visa restrictions on working as a pilot in Canada after graduation?

Ans. No. The Post-Graduation Work Permit allows you to work as a commercial pilot for any Canadian airline or aviation operator without employer sponsorship. Your PGWP is an open work permit valid for three years, during which you can transition to permanent residency through Express Entry or the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program.

Ques. How much does flight training cost beyond the tuition?

Ans. Flight training costs are integrated into your tuition fee; no additional out-of-pocket fees are charged for pilot certification. All Commercial Pilot Licence training with affiliated flight schools is covered within the CAD 48,000 to CAD 55,000 annual tuition range.
