Ans. When it comes to choosing a business school, the competition is fierce and the options can be overwhelming. Three institutes that are considered to be among the top in the country are the Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSOM) at IIT Kharagpur, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ranchi, and the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS). If you are interested in an operations profile, then VGSOM is a great choice. It is considered to be one of the best institutes in the country for operations specialization, after NITIE. Additionally, the return on investment (ROI) is high. IIM Ranchi, on the other hand, may have a lower average package compared to the other two institutes, but it has the prestige of the IIM tag and a decent profile. The hostels are also fabulous, with single rooms available for students. NMIMS is considered to be more costly and the batch strength is over 500 students. The top 150-200 students get superb packages and roles that are at par with other top B-schools, however, the next lot of students may have a lot of start-ups, etc. If you want to play safe, VGSOM or IIM Ranchi might be the best option. However, if you are willing to take a risk, NMIMS might be a good choice as the profiles there are really good. However, IIM Udaipur may offer more support for entrepreneurs and may provide easier access to international exposure. Ans. The MBA students of DoMS NIT Trichy will not be significantly affected by the presence of IIM Trichy during the placement season. NIT Trichy is a well-known technical institute and around 60% of the companies that come for Techies also come for NIT Trichy. This means that there is a set of companies that are already open to hiring NIT Trichy students. In the past few years, more and more companies have opened up placements for DoMS, increasing the percentage placement conversion from these companies. The Training and Placement Committee also works to bring in more companies that align with the interests of the students. Additionally, there are alumni connections that can be utilized. There may be some challenges with companies based in Chennai or Bangalore coming from BIM, but IIM Trichy has a different set of companies and therefore will not greatly impact NIT Trichy in that regard. IIM Trichy may be a good choice if you value the brand value of IIMs. However, Great Lakes Institute of Management (GL) outperforms IIM Trichy in several areas: The average CTC at GL is INR 17.86 LPA, while at IIM Trichy it is INR 17.01 LPA. However, the one-year program at GL allows students to enter the job market faster, mitigating the difference in CTC. In addition, the batch size at GL is larger and the highest CTC offered is higher than that at IIM Trichy every year. GL has a higher quality faculty compared to IIM Trichy and can only be compared to the top 5 institutes in India in terms of faculty. GL has a larger alumni base. Some companies, such as TCS, offer higher tier profiles to students at GL compared to those at IIM Trichy. Both institutes have a focus on IT placements, making this comparison significant. GL is recognized by AMBA, one of the three largest business school accreditation organizations, and is also a GMAT preferred school. The quality of students at GL is on par with IIM Trichy.
