Ans. Yes, IIT Kharagpur does offer a B.Arch degree. Here is the eligibility criteria for admission into this program at IIT KGP- The candidates must have had PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Maths) as major subjects in class 12th. The candidates must have passed 10+2 from a recognised board with a minimum of 75%. For SC/ST candidates, the minimum required percentage in 10+2 is 65%. Final selection is based on the JEE Advanced Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) + JoSAA Counselling. These are the eligibility requirements for B.Arch admissions at IIT Kharagpur.Read more

Ques. Can I change a B.Arch branch to any B.Tech branch in IIT Kharagpur?

Ans. Many people go for a certain branch with much surety bog branch change but don’t consider the consequences. It’s highly possible that you may not be able to change your branch and end up with a branch that you did not want to pursue in the first place. These people choose EE at IIT Bombay or Kharagpur when they could have easily taken IIT Hyderabad CSE. One should not solely rely on branch change and think of the consequences of not being able to change the branch. Will you be able to survive in the branch you chose initially? I don’t have much idea about IIT KGP’s branch change but I feel it is somewhat similar to IIT Roorkee which I do have an idea about. A Bachelor of Architecture course cannot change their branch to BTech if that’s what you are asking since both are extremely different streams. This concept of branch change misguides many so should be opted for when necessary. I have even heard of changes from BS to BTech.Read more

Ans. There are two aspects to the question. You asked. Is the bachelor of architecture course at IIT Kharagpur good? To answer this part, I will say with certainty that IIT Kharagpur is an excellent institute. However, as far as architecture is concerned, your first choice should always be the elite schools of architecture like SPA or CEPT. This is mainly because IITs are known for their technology and not architecture. Should a person who's only interested in physics and math, go for architecture or not? If you are genuinely interested in physics and math, then this will be one of your strengths and will prove to be useful in the journey of architecture. Architecture requires problem-solving skills apart from artistic skills. There are many students who are average in drawing but have excellent ideas and designs. To broaden your knowledge about art and architecture you can read books.Read more
