Question Answer

Ques. Between IIM Kozhikode and SPJIMR, which is better for an MBA in finance?

● Top Answer By Advait Joshi on 18 Aug 23

Ans. Both IIM Kozhikode and SPJIMR offer an excellent curriculum in MBA that is taught by the best and most learned faculty. One of my cousins chose IIMK over SPJIMR because she was inclined toward Finance specifically. Additionally, the IIM tag helped her avail better opportunities.  SPJIMR on the other hand has a few drawbacks that make you want to reconsider joining it. Firstly, it has a triple occupancy room system which may not be fit for everyone. Secondly, its culture is a bit restrictive focusing only on mental development. Overall, If you are a CA or a CFA graduate with Financial Corp experience, you will be exposed to similar cultures and opportunities on both campuses. But if you are an engineer, you will get better opportunities at IIM Kozhikode.  Ultimately, the final decision is yours to make!Read more

Ques. Should I do ops management from SP Jain or choose Great Lakes Chennai for its PGDM, where I get to choose my interested field (finance, marketing, etc.)?

● Top Answer By Advait Joshi on 07 Aug 23

Ans. When you follow your interests and passions, the result will be magical. This is the apt answer to your question. The primary importance should be given to your career and interests, not the institution. Of course, institutes play a major role in giving foundational support to excel in your career, but never waste more time in the selection process of the institution. Follow your mind, and if you are not sure about SP Jain, then opt for Great Lakes, as they ensure great academic support and the best infrastructure facilities.Read more

Ques. How would you compare MBA offers in Europe vs those in India? Which will be a better option in terms of career progression? Consider INSEAD vs IIM-Bangalore / EDHEC vs SPJIMR etc.

● Top Answer By Akriti Gupta on 26 Jun 23

Ans. When comparing MBA offers in Europe and India, you should consider the business school’s repute, international exposure, professional advancement, cost, and location. INSEAD is a top-10 business school with unrivaled international exposure. It is far more esteemed than the IIMs and should be the first MBA choice if cost and living expenses are not an issue. However, it is generally advisable to study for an MBA in the place where one wants to work or settle. If someone wants to work or settle in Europe, then doing an MBA from a top European business school is recommended. On the other hand, if someone is interested in working in India and the cost is an issue, then IIM Bangalore (IIM-B) is a great option. IIM-B offers easy loans and scholarships and is recognized by almost all top recruiters in India. Therefore, IIM-B is a good choice for Indian students who want to pursue an MBA. SPJIMR is also a good option, but if someone wants to start a business in India and their primary client base is local, then IIM-B is a much better option than INSEAD. Read more

Ques. How was the interview experience at the SPJIMR PGDM course for information management?

● Top Answer By Anumita Ghose on 06 Jun 23

Ans. For SPJIMR, there are two rounds of interviews. These are both group interviews, with the first one focusing on inquiries related to your chosen field of expertise and the second round focusing on your morals and values.  In my friend’s case, no questions about information management were asked, but there were times when inquiries about the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and other hot subjects in this industry were made. It is best to arrive prepared according to your chosen specialization and to have some knowledge of the other specializations, such as finance, operations, and marketing. Everyone in the group was required to express their opinion on a particular supply chain problem, regardless of the field they chose to study. There are no domain-specific questions in the second round.Read more

Ques. How expensive is it to get management quota seats at the IMT in Ghaziabad the IMI in Delhi and the MDI in Gurgaon for an MBA

● Top Answer By Akriti Banerjee on 19 May 23

Ans. Management quota seats are seats at colleges in India that are set aside for members of the management, trust, clergy, and VIPs. According to the institution, there are between 5 and 10% of seats available. The college and trust have complete discretion over who gets to sit in these seats. The existence of management quota seats in institutes like IMT Ghaziabad, IMI Delhi, and MDI Gurgaon is not well known. For students who are unable to get admission on their own through the entrance tests, this opportunity is available. The fees for these seats are not disclosed by the institutes on any platform. For admission to the management quota seat, you have to contact these colleges at the phone numbers provided on their websites. You first have to check your eligibility and then have to pay a huge amount.Read more

Ques. How different are the career paths of individuals who pursue their MBA in HR from XIMB/SIBM/SCMHRD as compared to those from XLRI/TISS/MDI?

● Top Answer By Aditi Deshpande on 18 May 23

Ans. The answer can be divided into two main parts: Curriculum and Placements. In terms of Curriculum, TISS is rated as having the best. Colleges whose core degree is not HR will be at a disadvantage when it comes to curriculum. In terms of Placements , XLRI is ranked as having the best package and profile offerings, followed by a tie between TISS and SCMHRD. The colleges whose core is not HR will not offer as good a package post-MBA as compared to the colleges with core HR competencies. In terms of packages offered, XLRI can be ranked the highest, followed by SCMHRD and TISS in a tie, and then MDI, SIBM, and XIMB.Read more

Ques. Which B-school should I choose among XLRI Jamshedpur (BM), MDI Gurgaon, and IIM Kozhikode, if I am interested in marketing/strategy roles post MBA?

● Top Answer By Pratik Parikh on 04 May 23

Ans. All three colleges are well-regarded in business. To choose between XLRI Jamshedpur (BM), MDI Gurgaon, and IIM Kozhikode, consider these things. Specialization: All three institutions offer MBA programs with specializations in marketing and strategy. However, XLRI Jamshedpur is known for its strength in HR management, while MDI Gurgaon has a strong focus on operations and supply chain management. IIM Kozhikode also offers a variety of specialized courses in areas like analytics, finance, and entrepreneurship in addition to marketing and strategy. Industry Exposure: All three institutions have strong industry connections and offer ample opportunities for industry exposure through internships, live projects, and guest lectures. I would suggest you go for XLRI BM because it is the biggest name among the three choices that you have. Also, XLRI being the oldest B-school in the country and famed for its HR has alumni working in the HR department of all the major companies out there and you can leverage this alumni network to get greater prospects in the future. All the companies in consulting and marketing profiles that visit IIM K or MDI also do visit XLRI and one won't miss out on anything but will only gain by being an XLRI Alumni. It is the oldest B-school and a worthy rival to IIM C which puts it in a league above IIM K or MDI.Read more

● Top Answer By Vasishta Burugula on 07 Mar 23

Ans. While many might have drawn several general comparisons between the institutes, my answer will target only one aspect which is your work experience.  Fresher Freshers can refer to the following preference order. MDI Gurgaon>Great Lakes (2-year course) >IIT Madras  Experienced If you are someone with enough work experience,va I will suggest the following preference order MDI Gurgaon>Great Lakes (1-year course) > IIT MadrasRead more

Ques. How do I get a package of 30 lakhs in the field of marketing, post MBA from IIMA/B/C, FMS, MDI, SPJIMR, and IIFT?

● Top Answer By Saransh Shah on 06 Mar 23

Ans. While many may shed their philosophies on how getting a high package should not be your ultimate goal and stuff, I am here with a different opinion. When you are investing a huge amount of money it is only right to expect a greater monetary benefit and a better lifestyle. So I have mentioned some techniques that will help you land a package of 30 LPA specifically in the field of marketing post-MBA from IIM ABC, FMS, MDI, SPJIMR, and IIFT. The first thing you need to do is lower your expectations as no marketing placements offer a package higher than 25 LPA. These highest offers are made by top firms like Reckitt Benckiser, HUL, P&G, and Asian Paints. You need to figure out what you really are after, a good marketing role or a high-paying job. If you are after the latter I suggest you go for big consulting firms like Mc Kinsey, BCG, or investment banks that offer 30+ LPA. But if it is the marketing role you are after, then make sure your resume reflects your marketing enthusiasm. This will further increase your chances of selection. Performing well in the competitions conducted by your desired company is another way to get a high-paying job.  If the Final Placements are your last resort then make sure you have a stable and excellent CGPA. Many companies consider this factor while shortlisting. These points will help you get your dream job but cannot necessarily guarantee it. It all ultimately depends on your efforts and obviously your luck.Read more
