CIP Ranchi M.Phil Clinical Psychology FAQs
Ques. How are candidates selected for the M.Phil Clinical Psychology course?
Ans. Selection is through a 100-mark Computer Based Test of MA or M.Sc Psychology standard, followed by a 50-mark practical and interview for shortlisted candidates. The final merit is based on the combined score. Applications are submitted only online on the institute website within the notified window each admission cycle.
Ques. What is the total fee and is there any scholarship?
Ans. The institute charges no tuition fee. Applicants pay only a non-refundable examination fee of INR 1,000 for UR and EWS, with a concession for reserved categories. Every selected candidate then receives a monthly scholarship of INR 25,000 throughout the two-year programme, making it a fully funded qualification. The combination of no tuition and a dependable monthly scholarship means students can devote themselves fully to clinical training without financial strain. This support is valuable because the two-year course is intensive and leaves little time for outside employment.
Ques. How many seats are offered?
Ans. The course has 21 seats, distributed across categories as per Government of India reservation norms, including a horizontal allocation for persons with disability. The small intake and national-level competition make the entrance test demanding, so thorough preparation in clinical and general psychology is important for selection. A strong foundation in psychopathology, assessment and research methods gives candidates a clear advantage in the competitive written test and interview. Past question patterns focus on core psychology, so revising fundamentals thoroughly is the most reliable way to prepare.
Ques. Is the M.Phil degree recognised for clinical practice?
Ans. Yes. The M.Phil in Clinical Psychology is a recognised professional qualification that allows graduates to register and practise as clinical psychologists. Training at CIP includes supervised clinical postings in psychiatry wards and outpatient clinics, giving candidates structured exposure to assessment, therapy and case management under faculty supervision. This supervised exposure across psychiatry wards and outpatient clinics is what makes the M.Phil a practice-ready professional qualification rather than a purely academic one. Graduates therefore leave the course able to take up clinical psychologist roles in hospitals, clinics and rehabilitation centres. The institute’s clinical caseload gives trainees wide exposure to varied psychiatric disorders.
Ques. What is the eligibility for applying?
Ans. Applicants need an MA or M.Sc in Psychology from a UGC-recognised university, with at least 55 percent marks for UR and EWS candidates and 50 percent for SC, ST and OBC candidates. The qualifying pass certificate must be available before the cut-off date stated in the prospectus. Having the qualifying degree completed in time is essential, as candidates without the certificate by the deadline are not considered for admission.
Ques. Where is the entrance test conducted?
Ans. The Computer Based Test is held at several cities including New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Ranchi. Candidates record city preferences during the application, and final allotment depends on logistics. The class then commences at the Ranchi campus after the final result and document verification. Candidates record their preferred test cities during the application, but all teaching and clinical training takes place at the Ranchi campus.
