JSS Medical DM FAQs

Ques. Is DM from JSS Medical College recognised for faculty positions at other NMC-approved colleges?

Ans. Yes. DM from JSS Medical College, affiliated to JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (a deemed university), is an NMC-recognised super-specialty degree. It qualifies graduates for assistant professor or lecturer positions in the Gastroenterology, Nephrology, or Neurology departments at other NMC-approved medical colleges, subject to NMC teacher eligibility criteria.

Ques. What is the scope of DM Nephrology from JSS Medical College?

Ans. DM Nephrology graduates work as senior nephrologists in hospitals, run independent kidney disease clinics, and can hold academic positions at medical colleges. Nephrology has strong placement prospects in both public and private healthcare, driven by the growing burden of kidney disease and dialysis needs in India. JSS Hospital’s nephrology department provides exposure to kidney transplantation and chronic kidney disease management.

Ques. How does DM Gastroenterology training at JSS Medical College compare to government colleges?

Ans. JSS Hospital is a large referral centre in Mysore with a busy gastroenterology and endoscopy unit. DM Gastroenterology training covers diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, liver disease management, and gastrointestinal surgery liaison. While government college volumes can be higher, JSS offers modern infrastructure and consistent training protocols. The fee of ₹2,50,000 to ₹3,50,000 is considerably lower than most private deemed university DM programmes nationwide.

Ques. Can non-Karnataka candidates apply for DM at JSS Medical College?

Ans. Yes. Management quota DM seats at JSS Medical College are open to candidates from all states based on NEET-SS merit. Karnataka state quota seats have preference for Karnataka domicile candidates. Non-Karnataka candidates should apply through the management quota route. Check JSS Medical College’s admission notification for the proportion of management vs. state quota seats for each DM specialisation.

Ques. What is the typical NEET-SS rank required for DM seats at JSS Medical College?

Ans. Cutoff ranks vary by specialisation and year. DM Neurology tends to be more competitive than Gastroenterology or Nephrology. JSS Medical College’s management quota seats typically fill at a wider rank range than government college state quota seats. Candidates should review previous-year NEET-SS cutoff data for JSS Medical College from the NBE counselling portal to gauge the required rank.
