SIMSRC M.Ch FAQs
Ques. Does SIMSRC offer both M.Ch Surgical Oncology and M.Ch Urology, and can I switch between them?
Ans. Yes, SIMSRC offers M.Ch in both Surgical Oncology and Urology as separate 3-year programmes with distinct seat allocations. Switching between specializations after admission is not permitted. Each M.Ch has its own NMC-approved curriculum, feeder specialty requirement, and seat matrix. Choose your specialization before participating in NEET-SS counselling.
Ques. How does SIMSRC fill M.Ch seats between All India Quota and institutional quota?
Ans. M.Ch seats at SIMSRC are filled through two routes. All India Quota seats go through MCC and DGHS centralised counselling based on NEET-SS rank. Institutional quota seats are filled through SIMSRC’s own process per NMC and RGUHS norms. Candidates should participate in MCC counselling for All India Quota and contact SIMSRC admissions for institutional quota availability.
Ques. Is the M.Ch from SIMSRC recognised for consultant and teaching positions across India?
Ans. The M.Ch from SIMSRC is approved by NMC and NBE and affiliated to RGUHS. Graduates are eligible for senior consultant and superspecialist roles at accredited hospitals across India. The NMC and NBE approval also supports eligibility for academic faculty positions at recognised medical colleges as per NMC teaching requirements.
Ques. What operative exposure do M.Ch residents get at SIMSRC?
Ans. M.Ch Surgical Oncology residents gain exposure in oncological surgery for major solid tumours including head and neck, breast, colorectal, and hepatobiliary cancer, with multi-disciplinary tumour board participation and reconstruction training. M.Ch Urology residents work in open, endoscopic, laparoscopic, and robotic-assisted urological surgeries. Procedural logs documenting case volume are maintained as per NMC requirements throughout the programme.
Ques. Can M.Ch graduates from SIMSRC apply for international fellowship programmes?
Ans. Yes, M.Ch graduates from SIMSRC can apply for international fellowships in the UK, USA, and Australia. Eligibility typically requires a strong operative record, relevant postgraduate surgical examinations such as MRCS or FRCS, and strong references. The NMC and NBE recognition of the SIMSRC M.Ch supports eligibility for most international superspecialty fellowship programmes.
Ques. Is accommodation available for M.Ch residents at SIMSRC Bangalore?
Ans. SIMSRC operates a teaching hospital campus in Bangalore with hostel facilities typically available for superspecialty residents.
