IIM Mumbai: 12 Answered Questions

What is the process to get admission in NITIE through the GATE?

Asmita Khandelwal
Aditya MishraPGDIM from National Institute of Industrial Engineering

NITIE admission process consists of two rounds, i.e. GD and PI. The institute shortlists students based on their GATE score for the GD-PI round. I got a 1400 rank with a 720 GATE score. What is the probability that I can get admission in NITIE, Mumbai?

Sakshi Gupta
Subham YadavPGDPM from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2018)

Is it really tough to get admission to NITIE Mumbai?

Niketan SengarMBA Master of Business Administration Degrees & Supply Chain Management, NITIE Mumbai (2015)

One of my friends studied at NITIE Mumbai. According to him, it offers five different programs including an interdisciplinary Fellow program and a 1-year PGPEX program. The other three programs are –

  • Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering (PGDIE) which considers GATE score
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Management (PGDIM)
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Sustainability Management (PGDSM)

PGSIM and PGDSM consider CAT scores for admission. The process of admission for all three courses remains the same.

  • First, you have to clear the respective exams for eligibility i,e GATE or CAT.
  • Then you have to clear a certain cutoff set by the institute for getting a chance to sit for the GD and PI which are necessary for admission.
  • And then later on you will get admission based on your performance in all these fields.
  • The GD happens for close to 20-25 minutes which is followed by a PI which usually lasts for another 15-30 minutes.

The PGDIM course usually commands a percentile of more than 97 in CAT to sit for the GD/PI and then your overall score will determine your admission. For PGDIE, a score upwards of 750 in GATE is required for admission.

As far as toughness goes, scoring well in CAT and GATE, which are themselves pretty difficult exams, is the most important parameter.

What is the admission criterion for NITIE, Mumbai, for a student with an engineering background?

Pragya ChawlaMBA Post Graduation in Supply Chain and Operations Management, National Institute of Industrial Engineering

NITIE is a renowned institute and is among the top institutes in this league. Candidates belonging to an engineering background are eligible for admission here. There are other criteria to meet which are as follows:

  • A minimum of 60% marks in 10th, 12th, and graduation should be secured if you belong to the general category and 55% marks for backward castes.
  • For PGDIM, 97.5 percentile in CAT is required for the general category. However, the CAT percentile is extremely low for backward castes.
  • The GATE cut-off for PGDIE is different over the branches. A score of 609 and above in GATE makes it certain for a callback.
  • Once shortlisted, you will receive a call for Group Discussion and Personal Interviews. The PI is headed by a team of experienced professors who inquire about your background, academic education, technical knowledge, and other general awareness fields.

Your performance in GD and PI round influences your scores and chances of acceptance. It is after this process that the Merit List is issued with the names of the selected candidates.

What is the admission process for nitie?

Yogita RathiStudied at National Institute of Industrial Engineering

The admission process will differ depending on the course you are applying for. If you are planning on joining PGDIM, here is the basic admission process:

  • Appear for CAT.
  • Write a few essays and pay the fee when the application form for NITIE becomes available.
  • Wait till you get shortlisted as it depends on your CAT percentile, your essays, and finally, your profile.
  • If you get shortlisted, you will have to appear for a group discussion and another personal interview round.
  • If you do really well, you will be given a seat at NITIE or you will be put on a waitlist. If your case is the latter, rest assured. The lists move relatively quickly since a lot of good candidates apply to multiple top b-schools.
  • After you qualify for your admission, you will be given a short window of a few days to pay the fees. Your seat will be confirmed then.
  • Your classes will begin around mid-June.

It is a relatively simple process. Just ensure that you give your best in your essays, the personal interview, and ground discussions rounds. These would be the deal breakers for your admission.

What is the weightage of GD and PI in the NITIE admission through the GATE?

Debdeep Majumder
Jiten MukherjeeStudies PGDMM in NITIE Mumbai 2023

During the admission procedure, the candidate is judged upon the weightage of their GATE score, GD or PI, and their academic credentials.

Considering your score being lower than usual, then it is the GD and PI that will play a pivotal role in your further selection. It also partially depends upon your communications skills because, only last time, NITIE offered management courses to a few handful of students based on how fluent they were with their communication skills.

NITIE Mumbai does not often divulge the criteria they usually follow for shortlisting students or finalizing candidates. It is best to acquire the best GATE scores.
