Ques. Could you please provide unbiased reviews of MDI, NITIE and IIFT Kolkata?

● Top Answer By Sahil Sachdeva on 26 Mar 21

Ans. Most of the people have suggested that overall all the three colleges are good and you will not be facing any problem if you take admission in any one of them. The NITIE College is good operations management, MDI is good for General management and Human resource management and IIFT is good for International trade. So, it depends upon you which branch you are interested in. The overall reviews of these colleges are as follows: MDI: This college is fairly consistent in getting top 10 rankings.  There are various kinds of live projects in the college which will help you in understanding the working culture in the corporate industry. Some of this live project will also allow formulating business strategies.  You will be having access to great infrastructure such as Bloomberg terminal and EuroMonitor database.  Along with the vibrant campus you will also be getting right guidance from Professors like Prof Bakshi , Prof Chatterjee and Prof. Mitra who will help you in getting the right path. You will also be getting great placement opportunities in various fields. NITIE: Operations management in this college is very good.  It is located in Mumbai and because of this location that will get lots of live projects in the industries.  The college also provides good placement in the field of supply chain management, operations management, etc.  This college also has a good alumni base. There is not much flexibility in the placements and the rest depends upon you. IIFT Kolkata: It is one of the greatest colleges with economics and trade as its pillars.  If you are looking for branches like international business and operations management then this is the best college.  There is a slight disadvantage between Kolkata and Delhi branches but the placements in both locations are similar. The comparison table of MDI, NITIE, and IIFT Kolkata are as follows: MDI NITIE IIFT Kolkata Placement percentage 100% 100% 100% Highest Package 40.5 Lakhs 46.50 Lakhs 45.45 Lakhs Average package 22.05 Lakhs 20.55 Lakhs 29.00 Lakhs Overall IIFT-K is only good for trade and economics. Ques. What are pros and cons of NITIE Mumbai?

● Top Answer By Aniket Atul Mahulikar on 04 Dec 20

Ans. The pros and cons of the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) are as follows. Pros: Location: NITIE Mumbai is located in the industrial hub of the country, Mumbai. This provides the students with a lot of options to explore and learn. Alumni base: Like other famous B-schools like IIM A, B, C, FMS, XLRI, etc, NITIE, too, has a strong alumni background with students working worldwide. A large number of NITIE alumni are VPs, CXOs and even some are owners of their own start-ups with great ideas. The alumni of the institute visit the campus often for alumni talks. B-School Challenges: NITIE students are well known for their participation in B-school challenges. In the past, students have participated in competitions like HUL Lime, ITC InterroBang, DCB, Aviva, etc. The success rate of NITIE students in these sorts of competitions is pretty high and it becomes an interesting learning experience. Peer-Group: Anyone joining NITIE is surrounded by experienced people in-between the age group of 21-29. Which gives an opportunity for good peer-learning as many students have experience in the industry. Placement: The placement rate of the institute is 100% with an average CTC around 20 LPA. It is somewhat considered as the most recognized B-school for Supply Chain and Operations. Even IT placements have seen a surge in recent years. Cons: There is a lack of diversity in NITIE and most of the students are engineers. Also, there is high gender diversity, around 8-10% of girls opt for a management degree in NITIE. NITIE is not preferred to those candidates, who want to pursue a specialization in Finance and HR, as it is a new branch and is still in the initial stages. The brand-name of NITIE is not as reputed as IIMs, XLRI, etc, and the brand recognition is limited to the corporate world. The pros outweigh the cons for NITIE. Although it is not as recognized, NITIE is one of the top B-School in the country with a NIRF ranking of 12 for MBA.Read more

    Remarks :

I was interested in the supply chain and NITIE is famous for its supply chain. So I choose NITIE over IIT. There are only a few colleges who provide MBA through the GATE exam and NITIE is one of them. Since it is near to my home town, it was an advantage for me. IT has a good ROI.

    Remarks :

The college accepts CAT score. The cut-off is around 94%ile. The process of GDPI occurs at college as well as in many other cities. It gets an edge and also very decent placement due to its location. The ROI of the institute is commendable.

Good Aspects-Placement, faculty, location-Industrial hub of the country, reputed for supply chain management. Bad Aspects-Expensive, lack of diversity subject field wise, very few girls and the college is not very reputed.

    Remarks :

My interest area matched. Many seniors and friends studied here. Good Package, GATE+CAT both. The application starts in March. Good- online onboarding was superb. Faced no issues in the last 1 year. Placement is 100% except for this year due to pandemic. Academics are chill. You get plenty of time to do things as per your preference. You dont get this opportunity in IIMs where academics are tight. Bad- as bad as any other top IIM. Nothing different like placecom gets all the top internships. Shortlist is random and unfair. Mainly FMCGs come. Very less consulting recruitment. Hostel amenities are not top-notch.

    Remarks :

The highs-Placement is the most major reasons, I find NITIE to be so great. The return on investment is very rich, which can be explained. The fees amount to around 15 lakhs and the average package stands lump sum of 21lakhs. Even the stipend paid is happening. It has got a very strong alumni network which is maintained through an Alumni Charter. The faculty here is very well learned and exceptional. The lows- Lack of enough brand visibility of the college is one. My parents when I got admitted here were not happy enough as they would have been if I made it to some IIM despite its great placement record. Gender diversity is another poor aspect of the college as female candidates are very few.

    Remarks :

The faculty at the college frames the very college with gold. The entire faculty has got 15+ years of experience and degrees from IITs, IIMs and foreign universities. Another great aspect is the placements. It is one of the best colleges in terms of ROI. Its ranked 13th in the NIRF ranking and although the rank changes a little bit, it stats among the top 20. The campus is beautiful and is one of the attractions. The college stands a little low if we talk about diversity. In my course, the entire batch was engineers and we had only eleven girls in our entire batch. The college despite all the merits is less recognised by people. When I got admission here, people in my locality had no clue about the college. So, in terms of brand, it gets defeated.

    Remarks :

The negative or bad aspects include a less branded name of the college, the placements are amazing yet the college is not well known by most of the people. Gender diversity is yet another problem. The classmates are mostly engineers and the institute is not considered most appropriate for students who want to excel in Marketing and HR. The positive aspects are so many and concentrated that the negative ones are easily diluted. It has all amenities required. A great green campus located in an industrial area and also, the placement figures are steller.

    Remarks :

The most major uniqueness and strength the college stands for is its location. Located in Mumbai, it is gifted with the presence of numerous corporate offices in the vicinity which becomes a locus of opportunities. The placement figures are also very optimistic. In terms of ROI, its only competition is FMS, although in this war FMS wins. The faculty is with doctoral degrees that hold the learnings from foreign universities. The weakness includes poor diversity, lack of brand visibility and not regarded as most appropriate for students who want to specialise in Marketing, HR and Finance.
