VESIT Admission Process

VESIT has no management quota. All seats are allotted through DTE Maharashtra CAP based on merit. The Sindhi linguistic minority status means 51% of total seats are reserved for Sindhi-community candidates, and the remaining 49% are open to all eligible candidates through the general merit pool.

BE Admission (First Year)

  • Maharashtra candidates - eligibility: Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) group. Minimum 45% aggregate (40% for reserved categories) in PCM subjects. Valid MHT-CET 2026 score in the PCM group is required.
  • All-India candidates: JEE Main 2026 score. Apply under All-India candidature for seats outside the Sindhi minority quota.
  • Selection: DTE Maharashtra generates a state merit list based on MHT-CET percentile. There is no institutional entrance test or interview at VESIT.
  • Minority quota: Sindhi-community candidates must produce the relevant minority certificate at the time of document verification to claim minority seats.

MHT-CET cutoffs at VESIT for Computer Engineering and IT have historically been in the high-90th percentile for the open category. The Sindhi minority quota often closes at a lower percentile, creating two distinct merit lists per branch.

BE Lateral Entry (DSE)

  • Eligibility: Three-year diploma in an engineering discipline recognised by Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE). Minimum 45% aggregate marks.
  • Route: DTE Maharashtra Diploma to Degree Entrant (DSE) CAP. Direct admission into the second year (third semester) of BE.

ME and MCA

  • ME eligibility: BE / B.Tech in a relevant discipline with 50% aggregate. Valid GATE or MHT-CET PG score.
  • MCA eligibility: Any graduation with Mathematics as a subject (10+2 or graduation level). Valid MAH-MCA-CET score.
  • Both routes: Maharashtra PG CAP - merit-based seat allotment by DTE Maharashtra.

VESIT Campus and Infrastructure

VESIT’s campus is located at Hashu Advani Memorial Complex, Collector’s Colony, Chembur, Mumbai - 400 074. Chembur is well connected by the Mumbai suburban railway (Chembur station on the Harbour Line and the Monorail corridor), making daily commuting feasible for non-hostel students from across Mumbai.

The campus houses dedicated departmental laboratories for each engineering stream, a central library, and computer and electronics labs. Separate hostel blocks are available for male and female students, with annual fees ranging from INR 1,10,000 to INR 1,60,000 inclusive of accommodation. The campus also has a cafeteria, sports area, and a seminar hall used for technical events and workshops.

The VES group runs a wider campus ecosystem including VES College of Arts, Science and Commerce and VES Polytechnic, which share the Chembur precinct. This allows cross-discipline academic interactions for VESIT students.

Which college is better, VESIT Mumbai or VIIT Pune?

Advaith BhaskarLives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India (2000–present)

-Choosing between VESIT Mumbai and VIIT Pune is a personal decision that depends on your individual preferences and priorities. Both colleges are reputed engineering colleges and have their own strengths and weaknesses.

VESIT Mumbai, affiliated to the University of Mumbai, offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in various engineering fields. The college has a good reputation for its academics and a strong faculty team. It also has a decent campus infrastructure and placement opportunities.

On the other hand, VIIT Pune, affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University, is known for its excellent academic and research programs in the field of engineering. The college has a strong industry-academia interface, with tie-ups with various reputed companies for placements and internships. It also has a well-maintained campus and offers a range of extracurricular activities to its students.

The final decision between VESIT Mumbai and VIIT Pune should depend on your priorities, such as your preferred location, course offerings, faculty, campus infrastructure, and placement opportunities. It would be best to visit the colleges, speak to the faculty and students, and gather more information before making a decision.

Between KJ Somaiya EXTC and Swami CS, which is better?

Vaishali SinghB.tech in Information Technology, K. J. Somaiya College of Engineering (Graduated 2020)

You must ask yourself what interests you. Choose a branch that is only allowed by your marks and cutoffs. That is the most serious error you can make. Without a doubt, the college from which you graduate is significant. What matters more is what academic records and experiences you leave with. If your grades allow you to choose between SC and ST in Swami, you will be eligible for many more colleges and branches. Even in KJSCE for EXTC. Yes, both colleges are excellent. You should pursue CS in Swami, but don't just enroll in colleges and branches because your grades and cut-offs allow you to.

Allow yourself plenty of time. Make a decision that will benefit you and your interests in the long run. Don't get your seat confirmed anywhere until the last round of admission and vacancy until you get one of those you want to be in. the cutoffs for vacancy seats fall like anything at the end of admission rounds. students with scores of 170 and 120 have been seen in the same class.

  • If the campus environment, infrastructure, and food joints matter more to you then go for Vivekanand Education Society’s Institute of Technology (VESIT) Chembur.
  • VESIT offers more seats for CS than TSEC College.
  • The placements for CS in both colleges are similar.
  • This mainly depends on the student’s overall academic performance, based on this appropriate job offers and salary packages are given.

Which is better, 'KJ Somaiya - Electronics engineering' OR 'Vivekanand - Electronics and Telecommunication engineering'?

Shivani KrishnamurthyStudied at Swami Vivekanand College, Mumbai (Bombay) (2016)

Having known some people studying in these colleges, I can tell you that both colleges are really good in their own ways. But, you should consider the following before you make any decision:

  • KJ Somaiya has slowly improved over the years and now is considered much better than Mumbai University (MU).
  • Vivekanand is known to keep track of attendance which is not the case with KJ Somaiya.
  • If you are considering doing Electronics, you should know that Electronics and Telecommunications has an upper edge.
  • The exams at KJ Somaiya are tougher than MU. This is because MU repeats a lot of previous years’ questions.
  • You will get a 5 day holiday in MU before a semester paper. At KJ, you will only get a day or two. Therefore, at KJ, your exams will be hectic.
  • The semesters end pretty quickly at KJ as opposed to MU.
  • MU students only get one month’s leave after a semester ends. For KJ, this leave is for 2 months.
  • You can utilize this time to look for internships and other activities that will help strengthen your resume.
  • Electronics has a few subjects like digital communication which might overlap with telecommunications.
Categories EE at KJ Somaiya ETC at Vivekananda (MU)
Course Fee 13.50 lakhs 4.52 lakhs
Highest CTC 12 LPA 9-10 LPA
Average CTC 5-8 LPA 4.5 - 5 LPA
Recruiting Companies L&T, TCS, Phillips, Schneider Electric, etc. JP Morgan, Tata Power, Mercedes, Microsoft, etc.

Both the colleges are even. It will finally depend on where your interests lie and what you would like to do. Find out if you are more interested in telecommunications or just core electronics, then choose accordingly.

Electronics will teach you more about electronic components, circuits and other basic ideas that might be required in general electronics. Telecommunications will only give you a deeper understanding of communication technologies.

Which is better, electronics at VESIT or electronics at the Vidyalankar Institute of Technology?

Nikhil Ranjan
Riyansh SethMechanical Engineering at Vidyalankar Institute of Technology (2021)

If in case, you want to focus on your GPAs, then Vidyalankar Institute of Technology can be a good choice because you will have all the required study materials. Some of them include GQs, EQs, and others. Mainly, the professors go around to encourage you in scoring particularly well in your semesters.

There is another factor you need to understand. If you are planning to go for acquiring a good knowledge base, then you will also have access to certain topics such as Stack Overflow, Instructables, Hackster, arXiv.org, Ieee Xplore, and several others.

You might not receive the knowledge base in either of the institutes, but you can still have a slight edge at Vidyalankar Institute of Technology if you go for a good GPA.

Besides, the faculty is supportive and more importantly, encouraging. The labs are well maintained and particularly well equipped as well.

What is preferable for CSE, KJ Somaiya or VESIT?

Saumita BaneerjeeStudied Computer Engineering at K. J. Somaiya College of Engineering

This is really easy to choose and without any doubt, KJ Somaiya College of Engineering should be preferred to VESIT. The reasons are as follows.

  • KJ Somaiya College of Engineering is an autonomous college affiliated to the Somaiya Vidyavihar University while VESIT is affiliated to the University of Mumbai and is not autonomous. Being an autonomous institute has its own advantages. Also, the University of Mumbai course curriculum is not up to the standards.
  • The placements of KJ Somaiya College of Engineering are much better than VESIT. Take a look at the comparison table below.
Institute KJ Somaiya College of Engineering VESIT
Highest salary INR 18.75 lakhs per annum INR 14 lakhs per annum
Number of companies visited 104 25+
Number of offers made 655 317

Apart from that, KJ Somaiya College of Engineering offers one of the best campuses in the Mumbai region with amazing sports facilities which very few campuses in Mumbai can match.

Companies like ZS Associates and Morgan Stanley organize hackathons at the college which offer chances to convert internships.

All these factors make KJ Somaiya College of Engineering a much better engineering college to pursue CSE.

Which is better, EXTC in KJ Somaiya or IT in Vivekanand (considering I like both branches)?

Anupam RoyStudied at Jadavpur University (2018)

Both EXTC in KJ Somaiya and IT in Vivekanand are very good courses to pursue, but let's look at some factors before making a decision.

Location :

  • The place where KJ Somaiya is located is a very good area.
  • There are two nearby railway stations Tilaknagar and Vidyavihar. So transportation is easier.
  • But Vivekanand is far away from Chembur and Kurla and it will take you much time to reach the college unless you get a monorail, but it is not available every time.
  • So, here KJ Somaiya will be a better choice.

Autonomous :

  • Autonomous universities provide the opportunity of taking up an internship or a full time job even before completing your 8th semester.

Campus :

  • The campus of KJ Somaiya is very beautiful and big in area with all the modern facilities.
  • They also encourage extracurricular activities.

Placements :

  • The placement of both the colleges are very good.
  • But students from EXTC in KJ Somaiya will have an advantage as they will be eligible to sit for both IT companies as well as core EXTC companies.

Will going for I.T. in KJ Somaiya Vidyavihar be a better option than CS in VESIT?

Sandip Pal
Sayantika SenStudied at KJ Somaiya Vidyavihar (2018)

Yes IT and CS are both similar in nature. There is no such difference in the curriculum as well. Both the streams get equal job and placement opportunities. Even the mechanical students learn to code for getting placements.

KJ Somaiya is an autonomous institution and you will get an advantage due to this. The placements at KJ Somaiya are much better than VESIT.

The placement statistics of KJ Somaiaya is as follows:

Highest CTC offered

INR 40 LPA.

Average CTC offered

INR 5.71 LPA.

No of companies visited

Can I get admission directly in VESIT
S
Sweta Kumari
Jun 28, 2026 22:05

No, you cannot get direct admission to VESIT Mumbai through a management quota, as the institute has surrendered those seats. All admissions are entrance-based via the Centralized Admission Process (CAP) using MHT-CET or JEE Main scores. However, you can apply directly for remaining "Against CAP Vacancy" seats if any are left after final counseling rounds.
