VESIT BE AI & DS FAQs
Ques. Is there a separate entrance exam required for BE Lateral Entry (DSE) admission at VESIT for AI & Data Science?
Ans. No, there is no separate entrance exam for DSE (Direct Second Year Engineering) admissions in Maharashtra. Admission is purely merit-based, calculated on the aggregate percentage of marks obtained in the qualifying Diploma in Engineering or B.Sc. degree. The State CET Cell prepares a merit list based on these marks, and seat allotment is done through CAP rounds. Candidates do not need to appear for MHT-CET for lateral entry admissions.
Ques. What is the seat intake for BE Lateral Entry in AI & Data Science at VESIT, and how competitive is it?
Ans. VESIT offers only 12 seats for DSE (Lateral Entry) in Artificial Intelligence & Data Science. This is one of the smallest intakes among all lateral entry branches at VESIT, making it highly competitive. Given VESIT's strong reputation in Mumbai and the growing demand for AI & Data Science professionals, students with high diploma percentages (typically above 75-80%) tend to secure seats in CAP rounds. Remaining vacant seats, if any, are filled through ACAP counselling at the institute level.
Ques. Can B.Sc. graduates apply for BE Lateral Entry in AI & Data Science at VESIT?
Ans. Yes, B.Sc. graduates from UGC-recognized universities are eligible for DSE admissions, provided they have studied Mathematics at the HSC (Class 12) level and have secured at least 45% aggregate marks in their B.Sc. degree (40% for reserved category candidates). However, diploma holders in relevant engineering branches typically have an advantage in terms of subject alignment with the BE curriculum. B.Sc. candidates are advised to check the branch-specific eligibility conditions in the CET Cell information brochure before applying.
Ques. What is the total cost of the BE Lateral Entry programme at VESIT for an Open Category student?
Ans. The annual fee for Open Category students in the DSE programme at VESIT is Rs. 1,47,681 (as per the 2025-26 fee structure). Since the lateral entry programme is 3 years (6 semesters), the total approximate cost over the programme duration is around Rs. 3.27 lakhs, excluding exam fees which are collected separately before each semester examination. Students from reserved categories pay significantly lower fees due to government fee concessions.
Ques. Does VESIT offer any hostel facility for DSE students?
Ans. VESIT itself does not have an on-campus hostel. However, the parent society, Vivekanand Education Society (VES), operates a hostel facility. Students interested in hostel accommodation can visit ves.ac.in/ves-hostel for details on availability, fees, and application process. The institute is located in Chembur (East), Mumbai, which is well-connected by road and rail, making commuting feasible for students from across Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.
Ques. After completing BE Lateral Entry in AI & Data Science from VESIT, what are the career prospects?
Ans. Graduates of the BE (Lateral Entry) AI & Data Science programme from VESIT are eligible for the same placement opportunities as regular BE graduates. The AI & Data Science field offers roles such as Data Analyst, Machine Learning Engineer, AI Engineer, Data Scientist, Business Intelligence Analyst, and NLP Engineer, among others. VESIT has active industry collaborations and a placement cell that facilitates campus recruitment. Since the lateral entry degree is equivalent to a full BE degree from the University of Mumbai, graduates can also pursue higher studies such as ME/M.Tech or MBA after completing the programme.
