VESIT ME (IT) FAQs
Ques. What subjects and research areas are covered in M.E. (Information Technology) at VESIT?
Ans. The M.E. (IT) programme at VESIT covers advanced topics in information technology including advanced algorithms and data structures, machine learning and artificial intelligence, cloud computing and distributed systems, network security and cryptography, big data analytics, advanced database management, software engineering and project management, and research methodology. The programme includes a significant research/dissertation component in the final semester, where students work on original research problems under faculty guidance. The department's focus areas include AI/ML applications, cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure, and data-driven systems, aligned with current industry demands.
Ques. What is the seat intake for M.E. (IT) at VESIT, and how competitive is admission?
Ans. The approved intake for M.E. (Information Technology) at VESIT is only 6 seats, making it one of the most selective PG programmes at the institute. Admission is based on GATE scores (CS/IT paper), and the Maharashtra M.Tech CAP process allocates seats based on GATE rank and category. Given the small intake and VESIT's strong reputation in IT (the UG IT programme has 180 seats and excellent placements), competition for these M.E. seats is significant. Candidates with strong GATE scores in the CS paper and a good academic record in their B.E./B.Tech. (IT/CS) are the primary applicants.
Ques. Is GATE mandatory for M.E. (IT) admission at VESIT? Can I get admission without GATE?
Ans. GATE score is the primary and mandatory criterion for admission to M.E. (IT) at VESIT through the Maharashtra M.Tech CAP process. Without a valid GATE score, candidates cannot participate in the CAP rounds. However, if seats remain vacant after all CAP rounds, VESIT may conduct ACAP (Against CAP) rounds where candidates without GATE scores may be considered for institute-level seats, subject to DTE Maharashtra norms and availability. It is strongly recommended to appear for GATE to maximize admission chances, as the CAP process is the primary route.
Ques. What are the career prospects after M.E. (Information Technology) from VESIT?
Ans. Graduates of M.E. (IT) from VESIT have strong career prospects in the IT and technology industry. Job roles include Senior Software Engineer, Data Scientist, Machine Learning Engineer, Cloud Architect, Cybersecurity Analyst, Research Engineer, and IT Consultant at companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Capgemini, IBM, Microsoft, Google, and various IT startups. The M.E. degree also opens doors to academic and research careers, including Ph.D. programmes at IITs, NITs, and international universities. With the growing demand for AI/ML, cloud computing, and cybersecurity professionals, M.E. (IT) graduates are well-positioned in the job market.
Ques. How does M.E. (IT) at VESIT differ from MCA at VESIT? Which is better for career growth?
Ans. M.E. (IT) and MCA are both PG programmes at VESIT but differ significantly in focus and target audience. M.E. (IT) is a research-oriented engineering programme designed for B.E./B.Tech. graduates, covering advanced technical topics with a strong research/dissertation component. It is ideal for students who want to deepen their technical expertise, pursue research, or move into senior technical roles. MCA (Master of Computer Applications) is a professional programme designed for graduates from any discipline (including non-engineering), focusing on practical software development, programming, and application development. For career growth in core technical/research roles or academia, M.E. (IT) is the better choice. For practical software development careers, MCA may be more directly applicable.
Ques. What is the fee structure for M.E. (IT) at VESIT? Are there any scholarships available?
Ans. The M.E. (IT) programme at VESIT is very affordable. For General category students who are Mumbai University graduates, the annual fee is Rs. 65,506, making the total 2-year fee approximately Rs. 1,31,012. For SC/ST category students, the annual fee is only Rs. 5,506 (tuition and development fees are fully waived), making the 2-year total approximately Rs. 11,012. Additionally, VESIT offers institutional scholarships (Students Aid Scholarship, Vivekanand Jyoti Scholarship) for students with CGPA 7.00 and above and family income below Rs. 3 lakhs per annum. External scholarships from IDFC FIRST Bank, Ekam Foundation, Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation, and others are also available.
