JBIMS MMS (Marketing) Part Time FAQs

Ques. Is the Part-Time MMS Marketing degree from JBIMS equivalent to the full-time MMS degree?

Ans. Yes, the Part-Time MMS (Marketing Management) degree awarded by JBIMS is a University of Mumbai degree and carries the same academic value as the full-time MMS degree. The curriculum is identical to the full-time programme. However, the mode of delivery is different - part-time students attend evening and Sunday classes over three years instead of two years full-time. Employers generally recognise the JBIMS brand, though some may differentiate between full-time and part-time modes during hiring.

Ques. Can I apply for the Part-Time MMS Marketing programme if I am not based in Mumbai?

Ans. No. JBIMS explicitly states that admission to the Part-Time MMS programmes is restricted to candidates residing in Mumbai and the MMRDA (Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority) region. This is because the programme is not a distance learning programme and requires regular physical attendance at the JBIMS campus in Churchgate, Mumbai.

Ques. What is the difference between the JBIMS Part-Time MMS CET and the MAH-MBA CET?

Ans. These are two completely different examinations. The MAH-MBA CET is conducted by the State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra, and is used for admission to the full-time two-year MMS programme at JBIMS and other Maharashtra B-schools. The Part-Time MMS CET is an institute-level entrance test conducted by JBIMS itself, specifically for the three-year part-time MMS programmes. Candidates applying for the Part-Time MMS do not need to appear for MAH-MBA CET.

Ques. Does JBIMS provide placements for Part-Time MMS Marketing students?

Ans. JBIMS does not conduct formal campus placements for Part-Time MMS students, as the programme is designed for working professionals who are already employed. The expectation is that students will leverage the JBIMS degree, alumni network, and skills gained to advance in their own careers or transition to better roles independently. The strong JBIMS alumni network across Mumbai's corporate sector is a significant advantage for career growth.

Ques. What is the minimum work experience required, and how is it calculated?

Ans. Candidates must have a minimum of two years of post-graduation work experience in an executive or supervisory capacity as on or before June 15 of the admission year. The experience must be after the declaration of graduation results and must be in an executive or supervisory role (probation and internship periods are excluded). Self-employed candidates must provide Income Tax Returns for the last three years and company registration documents to prove their central role in the organisation.

Ques. What happens if I cannot maintain 75% attendance due to work commitments?

Ans. The University of Mumbai mandates a minimum of 75% attendance for all students enrolled in the Part-Time MMS programme. Failure to maintain this attendance can result in the student being barred from appearing in examinations for that semester. Given that classes are held in the evenings and on Sundays to accommodate working professionals, JBIMS expects students to plan their professional commitments accordingly. It is advisable to discuss attendance requirements with your employer before enrolling.

JBIMS Mumbai: 2 Answered Questions

What is the difference if I choose FMS (Delhi), JBIMS (Mumbai) or SJSOM-IIT Bombay over IIM-B, SPJIMR and other such institutes that charge hefty for MBA courses?

Aastha Shrimali
Advait JoshiLives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Choosing a B-school can be a tricky decision especially when it comes to ROI. I understand that ROI is one of the most important factors when it comes to MBA courses since funding your education with loans come with its own set of challenges. But the institutes that you have mentioned above certainly surpass the challenges since they belong to the tier 1 category.

You might come across articles and blogs stating that FMS or JBIMS do not provide a typical MBA environment but for me, that discussion does not even make sense. What is an MBA environment after all? You spent 2 years of your life at the campus and wish to land a good job. FMS, JBIMS, and IIT Bombay all three have good market reputations, they home the best candidates and charge minimal fees. So, if ROI is even a little bit of a concern for you, go for these colleges without any second thought or regret.

There might be one, two, or three lectures depending on your course. Another set of events that constitute a major part of your day is committee-related events like competitions. Apart from that you are always busy preparing for your presentations and assignments. Attending guest lectures is mandatory and no one can evade them.

The first semester is the busiest as it’s packed with induction, committee election, summer placements, and lectures. You won’t be able to sleep more than 4-5 hours a day and then soon adapt to the strenuous college life.
