Should you pick MBA-BM at XIMB?

This course suits students who want a general management job in India and can live on campus for the whole course.

Pick it if:
You have a strong XAT score, not a CAT one: XIMB reads CAT, XAT, GMAT and its own XGMT the same way, so one good score is enough.
You want banking or consulting, not only IT: banking and finance took the largest share of the last batch, with consulting close behind.
You like picking your own subjects: the second year is built from electives, so you shape the mix instead of joining a fixed stream.
You want proof the placements hold: every student in the last batch was placed, and the average pay has stayed near the year before.
Skip it if:
You are counting on last year's average pay: it came down from the year before, so plan on the lower number and not the higher one.
You cannot live on campus: every full-time MBA here is fully residential, so a room and board are part of your cost.
You want to apply after your final exams: the form shuts in January and your degree must be finished by the middle of June.
You want a big metro campus: XIMB sits in Bhubaneswar, so recruiters come to campus rather than you walking into city offices.
Counsellor's advice
If XIMB is your best call among the schools that shortlisted you, accept the offer and pay on the date the letter gives. If you are still waiting on another list, ask XIMB in writing what part of the fee comes back before you pay.
MBA-BM Eligibility
Degree needed: A bachelor's degree of at least three years, in any subject, from a recognised university.
Minimum marks: At least 55% over all years of the degree. There is no separate relaxed mark for reserved categories.
Final year students: You can apply, but your degree must be finished by 15 Jun 2026.
Exam score: A valid CAT, XAT, GMAT or XGMT (XIM's own test) score.
Work experience: Not needed. It counts as a plus when the interview panel scores your profile.
MBA-BM Admission Process
Take one exam: CAT, XAT, GMAT or XGMT. XIMB reads all four the same way.
Fill one form: One XIM University form covers MBA-BM and the other MBA courses here.
Clear the shortlist: XIMB sets the shortlist cutoff after each exam result and puts it online.
Sit for WAT and PI: A written ability test, a group discussion and a personal interview. The exam score carries 55% of the final call, the interview 25%.
Accept and report: Pay the admission fee by the date on the offer letter, then report with your original papers.

If your percentile is short of ninety, TAPMI Manipal shortlists lower and costs less. If you clear both, XIMB pays more on average, so take this seat.
In short
If pay is what you are after, IMI New Delhi averaged more last year, but it has half the seats and no clear published fee. If XIMB calls you first, take it.
In short
If you want Mumbai, KJ Somaiya Institute of Management costs less and sits inside the city. If pay is what matters, XIMB averaged much more, so take this seat.

Which has the best program for rural management, XIMB, IRMA, or the Indian Institute of Rural Management at Jaipur?

Vishal PatilStudied MBA in Human Resource Management at Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (Graduated 2019)

IRMA seems to have it all - top faculty, great infrastructure, excellent campus, and extensive exposure. It is well known for its specialization in Rural Management and becomes the best choice when it comes to RM aspirants. Before I go on, let me clarify a much common misconception about the Rural Management and Development Sector. The assumptions that the pay in the Development sector is extremely low and IRMA provides no corporate exposure are outright false.

I know a friend who gave up a scholarship at another B School for Rural Management at IRMA. He made this decision despite knowing it will be more hectic because of the 3 field components unlike 1 in the case of other B Schools.

There is an additional social sector course like Rural Society and Polity for instance. The main purpose of these courses is to broaden your tour horizon as IRMA serves the majority of the Indian population living in villages, who have a different set of problems and require a different type of thinking to solve them.

IRMA has 2 camps - pro-market and pro-development that respect each other. Such harmony leads to a better understanding of both pros and cons, and students can initiate a response to an emerging economy.

This field required an emphatic and sensitive attitude with monetary benefits not being the primary goal. The earning capacity is not exactly poor and the placement figures reveal 100% opportunities. Additionally, IRMA’s Social Entrepreneurship Cell is a haven for future entrepreneurs.

IRMA boasts of a rich alumni culture because they take pride in being an IRMAn which was possible after multiple efforts and hard work. The alumni connection ensures constant motivation and advice shared based on real-life experiences.

Overall IRMA offers a roller coaster of experiences you won’t forget in your entire life.

How do the new HR programs of IIM Ranchi, NMIMS, and XIMB measure up to the established ones of XLRI, TISS, MDI and SCMHRD?

Apoorv AshutoshFormer PhD Candidate at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2017–2020)

The simple answer to your question is no, the new HR programs of IIM Ranchi, NMIMS, or XIMB are not at par with the established ones XLRI, TISS, MDI, and SCMHRD. The established programs especially that of XLRI are the epitome of HR programs. They cannot be compared to the new ones at any given level or parameter.

  • Faculty: The professors of XLRI are renowned throughout the industry for their competency. They specialize in almost every domain one can think of be it Law, Competency Modeling, Compensation, or Performance Management.
  • Peers: It’s the cream students who get the opportunity to get into a prestigious college like XLRI. You can see tough competition between the finest students at college. Every individual has a valuable opinion and stands to contradict others. Their thinking pattern is broad and given a case study, they look at all angles from accounting to finance to laws while proposing the solution. The situation at TISS is also quite similar.

Now one can say that the curriculum can be replicated and learned faculty can be sought to match the quality of the HR program at these institutes. But the truth is faculty and curriculum are the main but not the only factors that determine an institute's worth. Its own culture, ethics, and background have a lot to do with the programs it offers.

So one cannot match XLRIs programs no matter how much they try.
