UIT Admission Dates 2026

UIT admissions for the 2026-27 academic session are anchored by WBJEE 2026, conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB). The BE programme admits students through centralised and decentralised counselling rounds. ME admissions for the 2026-27 session proceed through GATE and CCMT counselling conducted by the National Coordination Board.

UIT Courses and Fees

UIT offers 8 programmes across BE and ME levels, covering six engineering disciplines at UG level and two at PG level. Total BE fees range from INR 3.37 Lakhs to INR 3.65 Lakhs depending on the branch. The fee structure below is based on the current fee schedule.

CSE, ECE, and IT carry a higher fee on account of specialised laboratory and computing infrastructure costs. Civil and Electrical branches carry a slightly lower fee. ME programmes are significantly more affordable, as state-run postgraduate engineering seats carry a subsidised fee structure.

UIT Admission Process

UIT BE admissions are fully governed by WBJEE, the state-level entrance examination conducted annually by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board. There is no institute-level aptitude test or interview for undergraduate admission.

BE Admission (WBJEE)

• Eligibility: Passed 10+2 (Class XII) with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects and Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Computer Science, or Computer Application as the third subject. Minimum aggregate of 45% in these three subjects (40% for SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B candidates).
• Age: Minimum 17 years as of 31 December of the admission year.
• Selection stages: WBJEE application and exam, rank publication, centralised counselling (WBJEEB-conducted), decentralised counselling for remaining seats (institute-level).
• Cutoff context: Based on WBJEE 2025 closing ranks, CSE closed at rank 10,776 and Electrical Engineering at rank 22,998 for the general category. CSE is the most competitive branch at UIT. Civil and AEIE branches have wider rank bands.

BE Lateral Entry

• Eligibility: Diploma in Engineering (3-year, AICTE approved) in a relevant branch, minimum 45% aggregate marks.
• Admission: Through WBJEE Lateral Entry merit rank. Entry is directly into the second year (3rd semester). Total 36 lateral seats across branches.

ME Admission (GATE)

• Eligibility: BE/BTech in a relevant engineering discipline with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks (50% for SC/ST), plus a valid GATE score in the appropriate paper.
• Admission: Through CCMT (Centralised Counselling for M.Tech/M.Arch/M.Plan/M.Des Admissions) or direct institute-level admission against unfilled seats.

UIT Placements

UIT maintains a placement cell that facilitates campus recruitment drives. IT, CSE, and ECE branches attract the largest recruiter pool. Civil and Electrical Engineering graduates also find recruitment through core sector companies and public sector units.

UIT Rankings

UIT functions as a constituent engineering institute of the University of Burdwan. NIRF rankings are filed by the parent university, not by UIT as a standalone engineering college. The University of Burdwan is ranked in the NIRF 2024 Universities band 101 to 150.

UIT Campus and Infrastructure

UIT is situated within the University of Burdwan’s 400-acre main campus at Golapbag (North), Purba Bardhaman, West Bengal. The institute building houses department-specific engineering laboratories for all six BE branches, a central computing facility, seminar halls, and a branch-linked library system connected to the University’s central library.

The campus offers separate hostel facilities for male and female students. Hostel fees are up to INR 15,200 per year for both the Boys’ Hostel and the Girls’ Hostel. All faculty members at UIT hold postgraduate or doctoral qualifications. The institute participates in TEQIP (Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme), which has supported infrastructure upgrades.

All three are government-run engineering colleges in West Bengal admitting students through WBJEE. Aspirants who are considering UIT Burdwan often also evaluate Kalyani Government Engineering College (KGEC) and Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College (JGEC), given the similar admission profile and fee structure.

UIT Burdwan’s location within a university campus gives it direct access to broader university resources including a large central library and interdisciplinary academic facilities. KGEC in Nadia offers proximity to Kolkata and strong IT-sector placement activity. JGEC in Jalpaiguri suits aspirants from North Bengal and serves a wider branch portfolio. None of the three colleges dominates across every parameter for all applicants.
