MDI Gurgaon PGDM-BAN FAQs

Ans. The PGDM-BAN is a specialised programme that combines management education with advanced business analytics, data science, and AI/ML applications. It has a smaller batch size (28 students vs 311 for PGDM), allowing for more focused learning. The regular PGDM is a general management programme. The fee structure is identical for both programmes. PGDM-BAN is best suited for candidates with a quantitative or technology background who want to build analytics-driven management careers.

Ques. What kind of background is preferred for PGDM-BAN at MDI Gurgaon?

Ans. While there is no mandatory background requirement, PGDM-BAN is particularly suited for candidates from engineering, mathematics, statistics, computer science, or economics backgrounds who have a strong quantitative aptitude. The programme's curriculum involves data science, machine learning, and business intelligence tools, so a comfort with quantitative methods is beneficial.

Ques. What are the career opportunities after PGDM-BAN from MDI Gurgaon?

Ans. PGDM-BAN graduates are well-positioned for roles in analytics consulting, data science management, business intelligence, product analytics, and quantitative finance. The inaugural batch secured roles at firms like McKinsey, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, and Axtria. Ques. Is the PGDM-BAN a new programme? How established is it?

Ans. Yes, the PGDM-BAN was launched in 2023 and the 2023-25 batch was the inaugural cohort. While it is a relatively new programme, it benefits from MDI Gurgaon's established reputation, AACSB and AMBA accreditations, and strong industry connections. The inaugural batch achieved 100% placement with marquee recruiters, demonstrating strong industry acceptance of the programme.

Ques. What is the batch size for PGDM-BAN and how does it compare to other MDI programmes?

Ans. The PGDM-BAN has a small batch size of 28 students, compared to 311 for PGDM, 125 for PGDM-HRM, and 114 for PGDM-IB. The small batch size ensures personalised faculty attention, a tight-knit peer cohort, and focused placement support. This is a deliberate design choice to maintain the quality and specialisation of the programme.

Ques. Can a student from a non-technical background apply for PGDM-BAN?

Ans. Yes, there is no mandatory technical background requirement for PGDM-BAN. Any candidate with a 3-year bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks and a valid CAT 2025 score can apply. However, the programme's curriculum is quantitatively intensive, so candidates from non-technical backgrounds should be prepared for a steep learning curve in analytics and data science subjects.

Coming to the placement part, most of the students choosing this program are sponsored by the company they were working at and hence have to join back their company once their program is completed.

The general placements are also decent with around 70% placement percentage. But placements depend mostly on the knowledge gained and implemented in your job. Your performance throughout the program determines your placement.

How do the new HR programs of IIM Ranchi, NMIMS, and XIMB measure up to the established ones of XLRI, TISS, MDI and SCMHRD?

Apoorv AshutoshFormer PhD Candidate at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2017–2020)

The simple answer to your question is no, the new HR programs of IIM Ranchi, NMIMS, or XIMB are not at par with the established ones XLRI, TISS, MDI, and SCMHRD. The established programs especially that of XLRI are the epitome of HR programs. They cannot be compared to the new ones at any given level or parameter.

  • Faculty: The professors of XLRI are renowned throughout the industry for their competency. They specialize in almost every domain one can think of be it Law, Competency Modeling, Compensation, or Performance Management.
  • Peers: It’s the cream students who get the opportunity to get into a prestigious college like XLRI. You can see tough competition between the finest students at college. Every individual has a valuable opinion and stands to contradict others. Their thinking pattern is broad and given a case study, they look at all angles from accounting to finance to laws while proposing the solution. The situation at TISS is also quite similar.

Now one can say that the curriculum can be replicated and learned faculty can be sought to match the quality of the HR program at these institutes. But the truth is faculty and curriculum are the main but not the only factors that determine an institute's worth. Its own culture, ethics, and background have a lot to do with the programs it offers.

So one cannot match XLRIs programs no matter how much they try.
