Ques. What is the difference between B.Tech AI & DS and B.Tech AI & ML at TCET? Which one should I choose?
Ans. Both are 4-year full-time programmes with an intake of 240 each. B.Tech AI & DS focuses more on data-centric skills: statistical computing, data visualization, data pipelines, and business intelligence, making it ideal for roles like Data Scientist, Data Analyst, or ML Engineer in data-heavy industries. B.Tech AI & ML has a stronger emphasis on machine learning algorithms, deep learning, and model building. If you are more interested in working with large datasets and deriving insights, AI & DS is the better fit; if you want to build and deploy ML models, AI & ML may suit you better. Both programmes have similar fee structures and use the same CBCGS-HME curriculum framework at TCET.
Ques. What MHT-CET percentile is typically needed to get admission into B.Tech AI & DS at TCET through CAP?
Ans. Based on past trends, the closing percentile for B.Tech AI & DS at TCET through CAP (General/Open category, Maharashtra State) has been in the range of 95 to 96 percentile. For reserved categories, the closing percentile is lower. Since MHT-CET 2026 has already been conducted (April 11-19, 2026), students should wait for the result (expected June 16, 2026) and then check the official merit list on cetcell.mahacet.org. Note that TCET also has Institute Level Quota seats where admission is possible with lower percentiles but at a significantly higher fee of Rs. 4,63,500 per year.
Ques. Are the hostel facilities at TCET good, and is it mandatory to stay in the hostel?
Ans. Hostel accommodation at TCET is completely optional and not mandatory. TCET offers multiple hostel options managed by the Zagdusingh Charitable Trust, ranging from the Boys Hostel (Mahadev Hostel) at Rs. 6,000/month to the premium ASPIRE Students Hostel at Rs. 12,100-14,300/month. All hostels are air-conditioned and come with amenities like washing machines, refrigerators, water purifiers, study tables, and 24x7 security. Since TCET is located in Kandivali East, Mumbai, many students from Mumbai commute daily. Students from outside Mumbai typically prefer hostel accommodation. Hostel fees are non-refundable once paid, so students should confirm their admission before booking a hostel room.
Ques. What kind of companies recruit B.Tech AI & DS students from TCET, and what is the average package?
Ans. TCET's overall average package for the 2024-25 batch was Rs. 7.93 LPA, with a highest package of Rs. 40 LPA. For the 2025-26 batch (in progress), the average is Rs. 7.65 LPA. Companies visiting TCET for placements include IT majors, product companies, and startups in the AI/Data Science space. Since the AI & DS department was established only in 2020-21, the first full batch graduated in 2024, and dedicated AI & DS placement data is not yet separately published. Students from AI & DS typically target roles such as Data Analyst, Junior Data Scientist, ML Engineer, and Business Intelligence Analyst. Many students also opt for higher studies (MS/MTech) after graduation, with around 25-35% of the batch choosing this path each year.
Ques. Can students from outside Maharashtra apply for B.Tech AI & DS at TCET through JEE Main?
Ans. Yes, students from outside Maharashtra can apply under the All India Candidature category using their JEE Main 2026 score. They are eligible for the All India quota seats in the CAP process. Preference is given to JEE Main scorers over MHT-CET scorers for All India quota seats. However, All India candidates cannot claim Maharashtra State quota seats. Additionally, TCET accepts applications for Institute Level Quota seats directly, where students from any state can apply regardless of their entrance exam score, subject to basic eligibility (45% in PCM at 10+2 level). The processing fee for institute-level applications is Rs. 1,000, applied online at admission.tcetmumbai.in.
Ques. What value-added courses and certifications can B.Tech AI & DS students pursue at TCET alongside their regular curriculum?
Ans. TCET's AI & DS department has identified level-wise value-added certification courses that run in self-learning mode alongside the regular curriculum. These include industry certifications from platforms like Coursera, edX, and open-source communities, covering topics such as Python for Data Science, TensorFlow, cloud computing (AWS/Azure/GCP), and data visualization tools. The college also has an active NPTEL Local Chapter, allowing students to earn SWAYAM-NPTEL certifications that carry academic credit under the NEP framework.
