Risha Sinha
Sunil TrivediBachelor of Technology Engineering, Cochin University Of Science and Technology (2020

In Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) engineering is offered by SOE (Kochi) whereas in CUCEK engineering is offered by (Alappuzha). Having friends studying in both the colleges, I can say that they are equally good.

  • When it comes to the IT sector CUSAT introduced IT in India and is considered a pioneer for the IT sector.
  • The IT branch is well facilitated in both CUCEK and SOE and is considered a good course to opt for here.
  • Both the institutes are well established and have created a name for them.
  • Faculties in both are well trained with a lot of experience.
  • Both of them have world-class labs with the latest equipment and technologies to equip students with the latest inventions.
  • Placements are also good for IT. Mostly they get placed in the southern region of the country like in Bangalore, Hyderabad and etc with good packages.

Which is better, SOE or CUCEK in CUSAT?

Sounak Banerjee
Saurav NayakB.Tech Computer Science and Engineering, Cochin University Of Science and Technology (2017)

I know a little about these courses as a few of my friends are currently pursuing them. Here are some of the information regarding SOE and CUCEK in CUSAT.

  • There has been no report of difference in placements of both SOE and CUCEK in CUSAT.
  • The education system and course curriculum have a little bit of difference but it basically revolves around the laboratory examination and infrastructure.
  • The laboratory examinations are very serious and strict in SOE. The infrastructure is less developed for CUCEK.
  • The campus of SOE is developed more than CUCEK although the location of CUCEK is very beautiful.
  • The strength of CUCEK is less than SOE and this enhances peer learning. Due to fewer students in CUCEK, the students know each other and enjoy more. Students at SOE also have numerous enjoying moments but the students are divided into groups.
  • SOE offers one of the famous programs that is Safety and Fire engineering. It has great recruiters and amazing placements.
  • The departments such as Mechanical, IT, Electronics and CS at both of these are equally potent and good.
  • For electrical and civil, SOE is better than CUCEK due to bad infrastructure at CUCEK.
  • The major mass recruiters include TCS, Wipro, Aricent, Standard Chartered, L&t, etc.

If you have a better option than CUSAT then you should look for that option but if this is the only good option, then go for it.

Is there any difference in placements offered by CUCEK and SOE CUSAT?

Sarita VermaStudied at Cochin University Of Science and Technology

A few of my friends are studying in both colleges and there is absolutely no difference – not even a minute one between the two colleges. Placements are the same and in fact, more students are also getting placed from CUCEK as per what recent surveys have concluded. Additionally, the placement cell for both these colleges is the same and is situated on the main campus.

Probably the only thing that might cause a little bit of hindrance is travel. You might have to travel to the SOE campus every time a company is visiting for hiring or placing students. You will have to go to Ernakulam from Alleppy which is a good 2-hour drive by road. This might pose as a minor set back but the college arranges for this transport so eventually, you will not have any issues.

Coming to placements at CUSAT, about 60 different companies visit the campus for the recruitment drive. So, you will have a number of options to look forward to when you begin applying. As of 2020, about 300 offers were made in the college with the highest CTC of INR 15 LPA and an average CTC of INR 4.7 LPA. The number of placements being offered has increased over the past three years.

Some of the major companies that recruit students include Cisco, TCS, L&T, Tata Steel, and Vedanta.

If placement is your primary concern at CUCEK or CUSAT, you do not need to be worried. You will be a student of a really good university so your future will definitely be bright.

Is the CUSAT campus at Kuttanad good? How are the classes and hostels there?

Karishma Khatri
Damini VatsStudied at Cochin University Of Science and Technology

The campus of CUSAT at Kuttanad is not that good when compared to the campus at Cochin. CUCEK is located in Pulikunu in the Allepey district. But the campus of Cochin is the most preferred one.

Following are some reasons to avoid taking admission at CUSAT Kuttanad campus:

  1. The location of the campus is not at a prime location and is in a rural area. On the other hand, CUSAT Cochin gives you all the luxury and access to the urban lifestyle.
  2. The campus of Kuttanad is situated in a flood-prone area and faces a lot of problems in heavy rainfall. They have to close their campus in the heavy rainfall or flood situations which keep the life of students at a risk. The campus of Cochin has no such problems.
  3. The placement cell of the Cochin campus is much more active than the Kuttanad. The placement rate is constantly increasing.
  4. The faculties of the Cochin campus are exceptionally good and well experienced. They all are well qualified according to their domains and are better than the ones from the Kuttanad campus.
  5. The infrastructure of the Cochin campus is better than the Kuttanad campus. The labs of the Cochin campus are well maintained and have other facilities like sports activities, access to administration, central library, and many others. The students from other campuses visit the Cochin campus for the successful completion of their lab classes.

You can easily evaluate the condition of Kuttanad campus through the above-mentioned points.

How does it feel to study in CUCEK: CUSAT sub-campus Kerala?

Shivani GargStudied at Cochin University Of Science and Technology

Like every campus, the CUSAT sub-campus that is CUCEK has its pros and cons.

The following points discuss the cons of the campus:

  • The location of the campus is in a rural area. This increases the travel time of a student to the nearest railway station or bus stand.
  • The area makes the environment bad. It is a common sight to find cows grazing the fields or the natives selling groceries even on the campus itself.
  • There are power cuts almost for a couple of hours a day. The availability of mobile networks is not satisfactory for most service providers.
  • The permanent faculty members are satisfactory whereas guest lecturers are invited for the core subjects.
  • The infrastructure of the campus is very poor. There are low maintenance laboratories, bad floors, no proper drinking water, satisfactory furniture, etc.
  • There is no facility for hostels at the campus. You need to look for small hostels or home-stay by yourself.
  • Lack of students participating in the activities and making them less interactive and competitive.
  • The administration is not active and acts in a ministerial manner. You might not find any solution for your queries.

Some merits of CUCEK are as follows:

  • The institute does not follow a hectic syllabus and examinations are a bit easy. This helps the students in feeling relaxed.
  • The brand value of the college is equivalent to IITs and NITs which makes the student worthy of studying here.
  • There are watchmen available 24*7 for security purposes.
  • Other facilities of the campus include an ATM, elevator as the campus building is the tallest in the town.
  • The faculty members are experienced and pioneer in their respective fields. All branches are leaded by visionaries and supported by assistant professors.
  • The placements of the students are decent and almost 100%.

These are some pros and cons of CUCEK which will help you understand the concept of the college in a better way and to make your decision right.

How is the CUSAT second campus?

Angana Nath
Tanya DeyBachelor of Technology Engineering, Cochin University Of Science and Technology (2020)

CUSAT is a very reputed institution according to students, It has two campuses one is in Kochi and the other is in Kuttanad. The second campus is quite similar to the first one in parameters like:

  • Degree Offered

The campus offers degrees which are equivalent to the Kochi campus in all terms as in it’s the university through which both the colleges are affiliated. The reputation stands unaltered.

  • Placements

Placements are not separate for both the campuses; all students sit at a single go whether belonging to Kochi or Kuttanad.

  • Examinations

Examinations are designed in a homogenous manner. No difference stands in between the campuses. The pattern & style of marking also is a prominent feature to look up to.

  • Curriculum & Marking Pattern

The quality of studies is the only thing that is not compromised while the marking scheme is managed with respect to campuses. All the faculties are quite experienced and have great exposure to real & practical experiences.

The fact that needs to be kept in mind is that Kochi is a metro city making it more preferable as it gives easy access to different facilities & services while Kuttanad is located in a village making it difficult to locate good hangout places and entertainment modes in that location.

Nevertheless; the engineering experience at both the places is quite awesome and leads to a great career graph ahead.
