JKKN College of Pharmacy (JKKNCP) is a private pharmacy institute located at Komarapalayam in Namakkal district, Tamil Nadu. It was established in 1985 under the J.K.K. Nattraja educational trust. The college is approved by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) and affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai. It is accredited with NAAC A grade and recognised by UGC under Section 2(f).

JKKN College of Pharmacy featured in the NIRF Pharmacy rank band 102-125 in the India Rankings 2022. The college participated in NIRF Pharmacy 2025 but did not feature in the published ranked list for that cycle.

The college operates inside the 60+ acre JKKN Institutions campus at Natarajapuram, on NH-544, the Salem to Coimbatore national highway. The shared campus houses nine institutions, separate boys and girls hostels, and a digital library with 50,000+ books and e-resources.

  • JKKN College of Pharmacy offers pharmacy programmes at diploma-exit, degree, doctoral and research levels:
    • B.Pharm - 4 years, 100 seats, with a 3-year lateral entry route of 10 seats

    • M.Pharm - 2 years, 90 seats across six PCI-approved specialisations at 15 seats each
    • Ph.D in Pharmaceutical Sciences - 3 to 5 years, intake as notified by the affiliating university

The total B.Pharm fee is INR 5.61 Lakhs for the four-year duration. Pharm.D costs INR 16.51 Lakhs for six years as a day scholar, while M.Pharm is INR 1.51 Lakhs for two years.

Fee support runs mainly through Tamil Nadu Government schemes such as the Post-Matric SC/ST scholarship, BC/MBC/DNC scholarship, First Graduate scholarship and Tamil Pudhalvan or Pudhumai Penn, alongside an in-house merit-based Trust Scholarship.

In the 2024-25 placement cycle, 97 of 124 placement-seeking graduates were placed, a placement rate of 78%. The median salary stood at INR 6.75 LPA for M.Pharm, INR 4.42 LPA for Pharm.D and INR 4.40 LPA for B.Pharm.

JKKN College of Pharmacy Admission Process

Admission to JKKN College of Pharmacy runs on two parallel tracks. Government Quota seats are allotted by the Tamil Nadu Selection Committee on Class 12 merit, while Management Quota seats are filled through college-level counselling.

Because Tamil Nadu does not mandate an entrance exam for UG pharmacy, the effective cutoff is the Class 12 aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Mathematics. The statutory floor is 50% aggregate for the General Category and 45% for SC, ST and OBC candidates. Government Quota allotment closes at a higher aggregate than the statutory floor in most years, which is why a large share of the intake enters through the Management Quota.

B.Pharm Admission

  • Eligibility: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology
  • Minimum marks: 50% aggregate, relaxed to 45% for SC, ST and OBC
  • Minimum age: 17 years as on 31 December of the admission year
  • Lateral entry: D.Pharm from a PCI-approved institution with State Pharmacy Council registration, direct entry to the second year

The selection sequence is the same for Government and Management Quota applicants up to the counselling stage.

  • Submit the online application with the INR 1,000 application fee
  • Upload self-attested mark sheets, transfer certificate and community certificate
  • Screening by the admission committee on merit
  • Attend Tamil Nadu Selection Committee counselling or college counselling
  • Pay the admission fee within 7 days of seat allotment
  • Submit original documents for verification and confirm the seat

Pharm.D Admission

  • Eligibility: 10+2 with Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects, plus Biology or Mathematics
  • Minimum marks: 50% aggregate, relaxed to 45% for SC and ST
  • Pass in English with at least 35% marks is mandatory
  • Post Baccalaureate route: B.Pharm with 50% aggregate, admitted directly to the three-year track

The sixth year of the Pharm.D is a full-time hospital internship. Candidates rotate through Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Gynaecology, Psychiatry and two specialty units in a teaching hospital.

M.Pharm and Ph.D Admission

M.Pharm applicants need a B.Pharm degree from a PCI-approved institution with 50% aggregate, relaxed to 45% for SC and ST. State Pharmacy Council registration is mandatory. A valid GPAT score is preferred and carries weight in Government Quota allotment, while non-GPAT candidates can apply through the Management Quota.

Ph.D admission requires an M.Pharm degree along with a valid GPAT, GATE or NET score. The process follows the notification issued by The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University.

JKKN College of Pharmacy Placements

JKKN College of Pharmacy recorded a placement rate of 78% in the 2024-25 cycle. 97 of 124 placement-seeking graduates received offers. Counted against the full graduating cohort of 155, which includes students who moved to higher studies, the figure works out to 62.6%.

The strongest outcomes came from the PG cohort. M.Pharm graduates recorded a median salary of INR 6.75 LPA, well ahead of both UG programmes.

Programme Placement Rate (2024-25) Students Placed Median Salary
M.Pharm 77.5% 31 of 40 INR 6.75 LPA
Pharm.D 75% 21 of 28 INR 4.42 LPA
B.Pharm 50% 42 of 84 INR 4.40 LPA

Hiring is spread across the pharmaceutical value chain rather than concentrated in one function. The sector split reported for the 2024-25 cycle is as follows.

  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing - 35%
  • Hospital and clinical pharmacy - 20%
  • Quality control and quality assurance - 15%
  • Research and development - 10%
  • Marketing and sales - 10%
  • Regulatory affairs and others - 10%

Common entry roles include Quality Control Analyst, Production Chemist, Formulation Scientist, Regulatory Affairs Specialist, Medical Representative and Drug Safety Associate. Pharm.D graduates move largely into Clinical Pharmacist, Pharmacovigilance Officer and Clinical Research Coordinator roles.

JKKN College of Pharmacy Campus and Infrastructure

The college sits inside the shared JKKN Institutions campus at Natarajapuram, on NH-544 between Salem and Coimbatore. The campus spans 60+ acres and houses nine institutions, including seven colleges and two schools, on a single site.

The pharmacy college itself runs with roughly 700 students and 60 faculty members, up from a founding batch of 40 learners in 1985. Teaching labs cover formulation, analytical instrumentation with HPLC and UV-Vis spectrophotometry, and experimental pharmacology. The college maintains a dedicated animal house facility for pre-clinical work.

Shared campus facilities include a digital library with 50,000+ books and e-resources, separate boys and girls hostels with mess and 24-hour security, an auditorium seating 2,000+, a food court, sports grounds for cricket, football, basketball and tennis, campus-wide Wi-Fi, a health centre with ambulance service, and an on-campus bank and post office. A bus fleet connects the campus to Erode, Salem, Coimbatore and Tirupur, which matters because a sizeable share of the cohort commutes daily rather than staying in hostel.

Students consistently point to lab access and one-to-one faculty contact as the campus strengths. The trade-off is location. The campus is set on a highway away from a metro, so industry exposure depends heavily on organised industrial visits and guest lectures rather than walk-in proximity to pharma clusters.

JKKN College of Pharmacy vs Nandha College of Pharmacy vs Swamy Vivekanandha College of Pharmacy

Aspirants applying to JKKN College of Pharmacy through Tamil Nadu pharmacy counselling usually weigh it against the other self-financing pharmacy colleges in the Erode, Salem and Namakkal belt. Nandha College of Pharmacy at Erode and Swamy Vivekanandha College of Pharmacy at Tiruchengode are the closest comparables on affiliation, admission route and applicant pool.

Nandha College of Pharmacy leads on NIRF visibility, holding a specific rank of 77 as recently as 2023 and carrying NBA accreditation on its B.Pharm. JKKN College of Pharmacy leads on institutional accreditation with a NAAC A grade, the widest programme spread including a Pharm.D Post Baccalaureate route, and the largest shared campus of the three. Swamy Vivekanandha College of Pharmacy is the natural choice only for women candidates at the UG level, since its D.Pharm, B.Pharm and Pharm.D intakes are women-only. All three draw from the same Class 12 merit pool and run under the same Tamil Nadu counselling calendar, so the decision usually turns on fee band, hostel preference and travel distance.
