The Centre for Distance Education (CDE) of Bharathidasan University (BDU), Tiruchirappalli was established in the year 1992 to offer higher education. Bharathidasan University is a UGC approved and re-accredited Grade ‘A’ by NAAC. The Centre for Distance Education offers around 60 programs including twelve Undergraduate, twenty-one Postgraduate, six Diploma/ Certificate Programs and seven Professional Programs in disciplines including MCA and MBA.

Bharathidasan University, Centre for Distance Education (BU CDE) currently offers around 60 programs including 12 UG courses, 20 PG courses, 6 Diploma courses and up to seven Professional programs in various disciplines.
BU CDE offers four BA programs, two B.Sc. programs and two B.Com. programs. Additionally, the university also offers BBA, BCA and B.L.I.S. programs to the candidates. The minimum eligibility criteria for admission to these programs is 10+2 or equivalent exam conducted by Govt. of Tamil Nadu state. B.Com. and BCA candidates are required to have Mathematics or Statistics as a main subject in HSC. Selection of candidates is done on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying exam.
Bharathidasan University, Centre for Distance Education offers Postgraduate programs in the streams like Arts, Science, Commerce, Library Science and Management. Additionally, the university also offers Library Science and HR Management programs. The minimum eligibility to apply is Bachelors in the relevant discipline from a known body. Selection of candidates is done on the basis of marks obtained in the last qualifying exam.
The Distance education school offers two professional programs, a PG Diploma program and three one-year Diploma programs in the fields of Computer Applications, Management, Yoga, Thirukkural and Sanskrit. The basic eligibility criteria for admission to MCA and MBA programs is graduation in the relevant discipline with minimum 50% marks. For admission to PGDCA program, candidates must have an Undergraduate degree with Mathematics or Statistics as a compulsory subject. Diploma candidates must pass 10+2 or equivalent exam conducted by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu. Selection of will be based on the marks obtained in the qualifying exam.
