IIIT Agartala B.Tech admissions for the 2026 academic session were conducted through JoSAA centralised counselling based on JEE Mains rank. The 2026 admission cycle has concluded and the new batch commenced classes in August 2026.

The table below provides tentative dates for the 2027 admission cycle, projected based on established patterns from previous years. Official dates will be announced by NTA and JoSAA after JEE Mains 2027 registration opens.

IIIT Agartala currently offers only one programme and the course-wise admission route is as follows.

IIIT Agartala Courses and Fees

IIIT Agartala currently offers a single B.Tech programme in Computer Science and Engineering. The total fee for the 4-year programme is INR 8.68 Lakhs, which is among the lowest in the central IIIT network, reflecting government subsidy and the Northeast India cost structure.

The B.Tech CSE curriculum at IIIT Agartala covers core computer science subjects including algorithms, data structures, operating systems, database systems, and computer networks, along with electives in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and software engineering. The curriculum is developed in coordination with the NIT Agartala CSE department, which provides mentorship and faculty support.

The fee structure is semester-based. Year 1 fees total INR 2.22 Lakhs (two semesters combined), with subsequent years ranging from INR 2.09 Lakhs to INR 2.17 Lakhs per year depending on applicable charges. The relatively low tuition of INR 1,00,000 per semester across all eight semesters is consistent with the government-subsidised PPP model applicable to Northeast India IIITs.

As the institute grows, additional specialisations or M.Tech programmes may be introduced. Aspirants seeking a broader programme portfolio at a central IIIT should note that IIIT Agartala currently focuses exclusively on CSE.

B.Tech Admission

Admission to IIIT Agartala B.Tech is entirely through JoSAA centralised counselling. The institute does not conduct any separate entrance test or direct admission process. All seats are allotted based on JEE Mains rank through JoSAA rounds.

• Eligibility: 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from a recognised board
• Minimum marks: 75% aggregate in 10+2 (65% for SC/ST/PwD candidates)
• Entrance: Valid JEE Mains score. JEE Advanced is not required
• Admission stages: JoSAA registration, choice filling, seat allotment, online acceptance, document verification, and physical reporting at the institute

The closing rank for General Category CSE at IIIT Agartala has shown a consistent upward trend: 35,192 in 2023, 39,356 in 2024, and 44,304 in 2025 (final JoSAA round). This trend indicates growing demand for the institute among JEE Mains aspirants. For the 2026 cycle, cutoffs were broadly in a similar range before concluding in July 2026. Female-only supernumerary seats carry higher closing ranks each year.

IIIT Agartala currently operates within the NIT Agartala campus in Agartala, Tripura. The institute uses shared facilities at this location including classrooms, computing laboratories, a library section, and hostel accommodation for male and female students.

The Tripura state government has facilitated the allocation of 52 acres of land in Bodhjung Nagar, Agartala, for IIIT Agartala’s dedicated permanent campus. Construction of the permanent campus is in progress. Once complete, the facility will include dedicated academic and laboratory blocks, a central library, separate hostels, and sports facilities, providing IIIT Agartala with an independent campus identity separate from NIT Agartala.

Current student strength is 300 students across all four B.Tech years. The institute has a small but dedicated faculty drawn from NIT Agartala’s CSE department and its own appointed teaching staff. Research interests include machine learning, theoretical computing, and communication systems.
