NIET B.Tech (Lateral) CS FAQs
Ques. Can a diploma holder from outside Uttar Pradesh apply for B.Tech Lateral Entry at NIET Greater Noida through UPTAC?
Ans. UPTAC counselling is primarily for candidates who have passed their qualifying diploma from an institution located in Uttar Pradesh and whose parents are domiciles of UP. Candidates from outside UP are generally not eligible for state quota seats through UPTAC. However, NIET does offer 15% seats under the direct/management quota category, which is open to candidates from all states. Such candidates can apply directly through NIET's online portal at applynow.niet.co.in without appearing in UPTAC counselling.
Ques. What is the difference between B.Tech Computer Science and B.Tech CSE at NIET? Which one is better for placements?
Ans. B.Tech Computer Science at NIET is a specialisation in Cloud Computing, while B.Tech CSE is a broader programme covering core computer science and engineering subjects. For lateral entry, both fall under the same fee structure. In terms of placements, both programmes share the same placement cell and recruiters. The Cloud Computing specialisation in B.Tech CS gives an edge in cloud-related roles at companies like AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure partners, while B.Tech CSE offers a wider range of software development and IT roles. Students should choose based on their career interest.
Ques. Is the lateral entry B.Tech at NIET a 3-year or 4-year programme? Will I get a full B.Tech degree?
Ans. The B.Tech Lateral Entry programme at NIET is a 3-year (6 semesters) programme. Students admitted through lateral entry directly join the second year of the B.Tech programme. Upon successful completion, students receive the same B.Tech degree as regular 4-year students from AKTU. The degree does not mention lateral entry separately, so it holds equal value in the job market.
Ques. What documents are required at the time of physical reporting to NIET after UPTAC seat allotment?
Ans. At the time of physical reporting to NIET, candidates must carry: original diploma marksheets and passing certificate, Class 10 marksheet and certificate, UPTAC allotment letter, category certificate (if applicable - SC/ST/OBC/EWS), domicile certificate of UP, character certificate from the last institution attended, migration certificate, passport-size photographs, and a demand draft for the remaining fee amount as specified in the UPTAC allotment letter. It is advisable to carry multiple photocopies of all documents.
Ques. Does NIET offer any fee concession or instalment facility for lateral entry students?
Ans. NIET does not officially advertise an EMI or instalment plan for regular B.Tech lateral entry students. However, students from economically weaker sections can avail of government scholarships such as the UP Post-Matric Scholarship, which reimburses tuition fees directly. Female students can apply for the AICTE Pragati Scholarship worth Rs. 50,000 per year. Students are advised to contact the NIET accounts/admission office directly at admission@niet.co.in or +91-8010-500-700 to inquire about any available payment flexibility.
Ques. What is the placement scenario specifically for lateral entry B.Tech students at NIET?
Ans. Lateral entry students at NIET are part of the same placement pool as regular B.Tech students and are eligible to sit for campus placements conducted by the Training and Placement Cell. Since lateral entry students join in the second year, they have 3 years to build their profile, participate in internships, and prepare for placements. NIET has a strong placement record with companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, HCL, Cognizant, and others visiting the campus. Lateral entry students with strong academics and skills have secured placements comparable to their regular batch counterparts.
