NIET B.Tech (Lateral) IoT FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between the regular B.Tech IoT and the B.Tech Lateral Entry IoT at NIET? Which one is right for me?
Ans. The regular B.Tech CSE (IoT) is a 4-year programme open to students who have passed 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics. The B.Tech Lateral Entry IoT is a 3-year programme designed for students who have already completed a 3-year Diploma in Engineering or a B.Sc. degree with Mathematics. Lateral entry students directly join the second year of the B.Tech programme, skipping the first year. If you hold a diploma or B.Sc. degree and want to upgrade to a B.Tech in IoT, the lateral entry route is the right choice. The degree awarded at the end is the same B.Tech degree from AKTU.
Ques. Which diploma branches are eligible for lateral entry into B.Tech IoT at NIET?
Ans. As per AKTU/UPTAC norms, candidates who have passed a 3-year Diploma in Engineering from an institution in Uttar Pradesh with minimum 45% marks (40% for SC/ST) in Mathematics are eligible for lateral entry. While any engineering diploma branch may be considered, branches such as Electronics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical, and related fields are most relevant for the IoT specialisation. Candidates with a B.Sc. degree with Mathematics as a subject are also eligible. It is advisable to verify the specific branch eligibility with the UPTAC information brochure for the current year.
Ques. Is the B.Tech Lateral Entry IoT degree from NIET recognised and equivalent to a regular B.Tech degree?
Ans. Yes, the B.Tech Lateral Entry degree awarded by AKTU (Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University) is fully recognised and equivalent to a regular B.Tech degree. The degree certificate does not distinguish between regular and lateral entry students. It is recognised by all government bodies, PSUs, and private employers. Lateral entry students complete the same curriculum as regular students from the second year onwards and are awarded the same B.Tech degree upon successful completion.
Ques. What are the career opportunities after completing B.Tech Lateral Entry IoT from NIET?
Ans. Graduates of B.Tech Lateral Entry IoT from NIET can target roles such as IoT Engineer, Embedded Systems Engineer, Network Engineer, Data Analyst, Machine Learning Engineer, Full Stack Developer, and Project Manager. The IoT domain has applications in smart cities, healthcare, automotive, industrial automation, and consumer electronics. NIET's industry tie-ups with ARM, PTC Thingworx, and IBM Watson provide students with exposure to leading IoT platforms. The overall average placement package at NIET for the 2024 batch was 6.02 LPA, and IoT graduates can target similar or higher packages with strong project portfolios.
Ques. Can I apply for UPTAC lateral entry counselling if I completed my diploma from outside Uttar Pradesh?
Ans. As per UPTAC norms, the lateral entry counselling for B.Tech is primarily open to candidates who have passed their qualifying diploma from an institution located in Uttar Pradesh, and whose parents (father/mother) are domiciles of UP. Candidates who completed their diploma from outside UP may not be eligible for UPTAC counselling but can apply for direct admission (management quota, 15% seats) at NIET, which does not have this domicile restriction. It is advisable to check the latest UPTAC information brochure for the current year for any updates to eligibility norms.
Ques. What is the fee difference between the regular B.Tech IoT and the B.Tech Lateral Entry IoT at NIET?
Ans. The regular B.Tech IoT (4 years) has a total fee of Rs. 6,46,200 (Year 1: Rs. 1,79,100; Years 2-4: Rs. 1,55,700 per year). The B.Tech Lateral Entry IoT (3 years) has a total fee of Rs. 4,02,300 (Year 1 of lateral: Rs. 1,48,500; Years 2-3 of lateral: Rs. 1,26,900 per year). The lateral entry programme is thus approximately Rs. 2,43,900 cheaper in total fees compared to the regular programme, in addition to saving one year of study time. Both programmes have the same hostel fee structure.
