Class 8 Science Conservation of Plants and Animals: Important Topics

Forest conservation is the preservation and protection of forests. It also entails the halting of deforestation and the reduction of pollution in the environment and also to maintaining the ecology, and the natural habitat for the wildlife, and protecting them from extinction.

• Deforestation

Deforestation is referred to as the clearing of forested land deliberately. Forests, throughout history, have been razed to make space for agriculture and animal grazing and in order to obtain wood for fuel, manufacturing, and construction. Deforestation has greatly altered landscapes around the world.

• Biosphere reserve

Biosphere reserves are defined as protected areas that are meant for the conservation of plants and animals. Additionally, they also restore the traditional life of the tribals living and conserve the biodiversity of that area. There are 18 Biosphere Reserves in India that are established by the government that protects large areas of natural habitats. 

• Wildlife sanctuary

A wildlife sanctuary is basically an area where animal habitats and their surroundings are protected from any sort of disturbance. The capturing, poaching, and killing of animals are strictly prohibited in these regions.

• National park

National parks are the areas that protect the natural environment, and are also involved in public recreation and enjoyment activities. In a national park, the landscapes and their flora and fauna are present in their natural state.

• Reforestation

Reforestation is the process of replanting trees in areas that have been affected by natural disturbances like wildfires, drought, and insect and disease infestations — and unnatural ones like logging, mining, agricultural clearing, and development.
