Landshut University of Applied Sciences (HAW Landshut) is a state-funded Fachhochschule founded in 1978 in the Bavarian city of Landshut, 70 kilometres northeast of Munich. The university holds Germany rank #170 as per Collegedunia Study Abroad 2027 and enrols roughly 5,000 students across seven faculties.

HAW Landshut offers 56 programmes spanning business, computer science, engineering, architecture, health and social work. One English-taught bachelor and three English-taught masters accept Indian applicants without German-language proof. Winter (October) is the primary intake for most programmes, and Summer (March) opens a limited masters portfolio each cycle. Bavarian public policy waives all tuition for non-EU students, keeping the annual outlay to a semester contribution plus living costs.

  • Collegedunia Study Abroad rank: #170 in Germany
  • Acceptance rate: 85-90% (estimated); 90.4% of programmes open admission
  • Primary intakes: Winter (October) and Summer (March)
  • Semester contribution: €82 or ₹8,945 per semester
  • International students: 425 on campus
  • English-taught programmes: 1 bachelor and 3 masters

Indian applicants must clear the APS certificate before submitting through uni-assist and the PRIMUSS portal. The €75 uni-assist VPD and the ₹18,000 APS fee form the mandatory upfront charges. A blocked-account deposit for the German student visa applies alongside the semester contribution. Applicants comparing HAW Landshut against larger MS universities in Germany should note its smaller international cohort here.

Exchange rate used: €1 = ₹109.09 as of July 2026

Admission Status: Closed (Winter 2026/27 intake). The next window opens 15 November 2026 for the Summer 2027 intake. It applies only to selected masters such as International Business Administration and closes 15 January 2027. Bachelor and Global Management applicants should target the Winter 2027/28 cycle. That cycle opens 15 April 2027 and closes 15 July 2027 based on the fixed university calendar.

Popular Courses and Fees at Landshut University of Applied Sciences 2027

Landshut University of Applied Sciences charges no tuition for its Bavarian public programmes at any level. Every bachelor, master and PhD applicant pays the €82 semester contribution introduced from Winter 2026/27. The university collects this via ePayment on the PRIMUSS portal. Indian students targeting English-taught degrees choose from one bachelor and three masters. The wider 56-programme portfolio runs mostly in German, feeding directly into Bavaria’s MBA universities in Germany pipeline for later career pivots.

Landshut University of Applied Sciences Admission 2027

Landshut University of Applied Sciences runs two annual intakes for Indian applicants. Winter (October start) opens every bachelor and most masters. Summer (March start) opens only International Business Administration and select German-taught masters.

Landshut University of Applied Sciences Admission Dates 2027

Non-EU applicants apply through uni-assist first for VPD credential verification, then through the PRIMUSS portal for the university’s own admission review. Deadlines vary by intake as listed below, taken verbatim from the official application pages.

MilestoneDateNotes for Indian Applicants
Winter 2027/28 (Bachelor and Master, non-EU)15 April 2027 to 15 July 2027Apply via PRIMUSS after APS clearance and uni-assist VPD
Summer 2027 (IBA and select German-taught masters)15 November 2026 to 15 January 2027Limited programme list; verify individual course pages

uni-assist VPD credential verificationStart 6-8 weeks before deadlineNon-refundable €75 fee for the pre-review
Programme startOctober 2027 (Winter) / March 2027 (Summer)Orientation week runs two weeks prior to lectures

According to universities in Germany guidance, applicants targeting the July deadline typically file the APS request by early January.

Planning note: File the APS request in early January if you target the July deadline. The Delhi centre routinely runs 6-8 weeks in peak season, and every application without APS is auto-rejected by uni-assist before it reaches HAW Landshut.

Landshut University of Applied Sciences Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

The single most important requirement for Indian applicants is the APS certificate. It must be obtained before uni-assist or PRIMUSS accept the application file.

Landshut University of Applied Sciences PG Requirements for Indian Students

  • Bachelor’s degree with 180 ECTS and grade average of 2.5 or better on the German scale, mapping to 65% or CGPA 6.5/10 (recommended). Global Management additionally requires 45 ECTS in business administration.
  • English C1 for Global Management: IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL iBT 95 (legacy 0-120 scale). German C1 required for German-taught masters. Verify current TOEFL band mapping on the official admission page.
  • APS certificate (Akademische Prüfstelle) mandatory. Fee ₹18,000; processing 4-8 weeks at the Delhi centre.
  • uni-assist VPD (Vorprüfungsdokumentation) confirming credential recognition. Fee €75 or ₹8,182 at current exchange.

Landshut University of Applied Sciences UG Requirements for Indian Students

  • Class 12 with 65% or higher (recommended), equivalent to the German Fachhochschulreife.
  • English B2 for Sustainable Industrial Operations and Business: IELTS 5.5 to 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 72. German B2 required for all German-taught bachelors.
  • APS certificate mandatory even for undergraduate applications.

Key insight: Global Management waives the English test for Indian graduates of bachelor’s programmes taught entirely in English. The university still expects a medium-of-instruction letter from the awarding Indian university on official letterhead.

Landshut University of Applied Sciences Acceptance Rate 2027

No official admission rate is published by Landshut University of Applied Sciences. Because 90.4% of programmes operate as open admission with no numerus clausus, functional acceptance for Indian applicants meeting the GPA cut sits at 85-90% (estimated). This estimate reflects the university’s admission-type disclosure and is not sourced from an institutional acceptance metric.

Rejections almost always trace to two triggers: missing APS certificate at submission, or bachelor GPA falling below the 2.5 German-scale threshold Global Management enforces as a hard cut. Global Management alone applies a numerus clausus in high-application years and shortlists on GPA plus a motivation-letter score.

Reality check: Open admission does not mean easy admission. Once you clear APS and the GPA cut, admission is near-automatic. Without either, uni-assist rejects the file at pre-review before HAW Landshut sees it.

Landshut University of Applied Sciences Campus, Facilities and Student Life

HAW Landshut occupies a single 15-hectare campus in Landshut, a Bavarian town of 75,000 residents. The site sits 70 kilometres northeast of Munich and walking distance to the historic city centre.

  • Location and transport: Munich accessible in 45 minutes by regional train, useful for weekend industry visits or comparison with universities in Munich.
  • Housing: Studierendenwerk dormitories host roughly 200 students at €300 to €350 per month for subsidised singles.
  • Notable facilities: Automotive electronics lab, driverless-vehicle test bed, and the DIWAG interdisciplinary research centre for digital transformation.
  • Indian student community: Small at roughly 40 to 60 active students. The Buddy Programme pairs each incoming with a local student for the first semester.

What Indian students say: Landshut feels safer and quieter than Berlin or Munich, and rent runs roughly half. The trade-off is a smaller Indian community, which pushes most students into strong local integration by semester two.

Landshut University of Applied Sciences Scholarships 2027

HAW Landshut administers one institutional scholarship for international students, alongside external federal programmes that Indian applicants can layer on top.

Landshut University of Applied Sciences Rankings 2027

Landshut University of Applied Sciences does not appear in the QS World, THE World, US News Best Global, or ARWU editions. Like most German Fachhochschulen, HAW Landshut participates in domestic subject rankings by CHE (Centre for Higher Education) rather than institutional aggregates. Collegedunia Study Abroad lists it at #170 in Germany.

CHE has evaluated HAW Landshut’s Business Administration, Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering programmes in prior editions with above-average marks for study organisation and industry connection.

Key insight: Global rankings do not capture Fachhochschulen well because these institutions emphasise applied teaching over research citations. Indian employers and German consulates recognise the HAW Landshut degree regardless of QS placement.

Landshut University of Applied Sciences Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

HAW Landshut positions placement outcomes around Bavaria’s automotive and machinery corridor. Mandatory internship semesters sit embedded in most bachelor and master programmes as a placement bridge.

  • Placement or employment rate: Not officially disclosed by the university.
  • Median starting salary: Not disclosed at institution level. Bavaria’s regional median for engineering graduates sits at €50,000 to €58,000 (₹54.5 to 63.3 Lakh) per year (market estimate).
  • Named recruiters via internships: BMW Group Landshut plant, Schott, Wacker and regional Mittelstand engineering firms (representative, not officially disclosed).
  • Careers support: Annual KarriereForum recruitment fair plus weekly employer info sessions across the seven faculties. Applicants comparing against other master in engineering universities in Germany find HAW Landshut’s internship-to-thesis pipeline distinctive.
  • Post-study work visa: Indian graduates receive an 18-month Job Seeker Residence Permit under German federal law. It converts directly to the EU Blue Card once a graduate-level offer is signed.

Insider note: Recruiting for Indian graduates depends heavily on the industrial internship semester. Students who convert that internship into a working-student contract during the thesis phase transition to full-time offers at 65-75% rates in the Landshut corridor.

Landshut University of Applied Sciences vs Peer Universities

Peer comparison against three Bavarian universities of applied sciences with similar English portfolio scale and industry orientation.

UniversityTypeSemester ContributionEnglish PG OptionsDifferentiator
Landshut University of Applied SciencesFachhochschule€82 (₹8,945)3 mastersDirect BMW Landshut plant access
Munich University of Applied SciencesFachhochschuleNot disclosed5+ mastersLargest Bavarian UAS, urban Munich campus

Rosenheim Technical University of Applied SciencesFachhochschuleNot disclosed3-4 mastersAlpine campus, wood technology focus

HAW Landshut stands out on concentrated cohort size and the direct BMW Group Landshut plant partnership. Applicants seeking a wider English-taught menu can compare against MBA universities in Germany and larger peer institutions.

Landshut University of Applied Sciences fits Indian students who value small class sizes and direct Bavarian industry access. Total study cost sits near ₹12.83 Lakh per year, well under a fifth of the regional engineering median. The 18-month post-study work visa and open-admission policy give applicants a realistic path from application to employment. Direct Blue Card offers or later MBA in Germany conversions follow naturally.

HAW Landshut is not the right fit for applicants seeking a broad English-taught catalogue, urban campus energy or a large Indian community. Deggendorf Institute of Technology or Munich University of Applied Sciences remain honest alternatives with similar cost profile.

Landshut University of Applied Sciences FAQs

Ques. What programmes at Landshut University of Applied Sciences are taught entirely in English?

Ans. HAW Landshut offers four fully English-taught programmes: the Sustainable Industrial Operations and Business bachelor, the Global Management master, the International Business Administration master and the part-time Process Management and Resource Efficiency MBA/MEng. Every other programme in the 56-course catalogue runs in German. Those require TestDaF or equivalent proof at B2 for bachelors or C1 for masters.

Ques. Can HAW Landshut applicants skip the APS certificate?

Ans. No. Every Indian applicant to HAW Landshut, at bachelor, master or PhD level, must present a valid APS certificate before uni-assist reviews the application. The only accepted exception is documented evidence of a German or EU-funded scholarship. Applicants targeting the July winter deadline should file the APS request by early January to absorb the 4-8 week processing at the Delhi centre.

Ques. How does Landshut University of Applied Sciences convert Indian bachelor GPA?

Ans. The German conversion generally maps an Indian CGPA of 6.5/10 or a percentage of 65% to a German grade of 2.5. This is the minimum for HAW Landshut master admission. Global Management enforces this cut strictly, and uni-assist runs the conversion during VPD credential verification. Applicants below the threshold are auto-rejected at pre-review before the university sees the file.

Ques. Which German banks issue blocked accounts accepted by HAW Landshut?

Ans. HAW Landshut accepts blocked-account confirmations from any German consulate-approved provider, including Fintiba, Expatrio, Coracle and Deutsche Bank Passport. The German consulate in India sets the annual minimum, revised each January by DAAD. The university itself does not enforce a specific provider. Setting up the account online typically completes within 5 to 7 business days for Indian applicants.

Ques. Does Landshut University of Applied Sciences charge non-EU tuition from Indian students?

Ans. No. Bavaria’s state universities, including Landshut University of Applied Sciences, have not implemented the optional non-EU tuition fee that some other German states charge. Indian degree seekers pay only the €82 semester contribution, or €164 (₹17,890) per academic year. The €75 uni-assist VPD fee applies at application time. Baden-Wuerttemberg institutions like Karlsruhe charge €1,500 per semester in contrast.

Ques. How does HAW Landshut process late applications from Indian students?

Ans. HAW Landshut does not accept late applications past the 15 July winter deadline for non-EU applicants. The PRIMUSS portal closes automatically, and uni-assist stops accepting VPD requests two weeks before. Indian applicants who miss the July window must wait for the Summer 2027 intake. That intake applies only to International Business Administration and select German-taught masters, with no expedited fee window.

Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at Landshut University of Applied Sciences?

Ans. Yes. German student visa rules allow 140 full days or 280 half days of paid work per calendar year across all state universities including HAW Landshut. Indian students typically combine on-campus HiWi (student assistant) roles with off-campus retail or hospitality shifts. Working-student contracts of up to 20 hours per week within one employer are common in the Landshut industrial corridor during the thesis phase.

Ques. Can Indian students transfer credits into HAW Landshut mid-programme?

Ans. HAW Landshut recognises credits from partner universities and select Indian institutions on a case-by-case basis. The Faculty Examination Board evaluates ECTS mapping, module overlap and grading equivalence during admission review. Direct entry into higher semesters is rare for Indian applicants, and most credit-transfer decisions produce one or two module waivers rather than a full-semester jump. Contact the International Office before submitting for a preliminary assessment.
