Programs, Campus, and Residence

  • Comprised of 6 faculties, the University of Bayreuth is internationally renowned for its excellence in innovative research and interdisciplinary teaching.
  • The university has research focus areas in fields such as African Studies, Advanced Materials, Molecular Biosciences, Governance & Responsibility, Food & Health Sciences, and Nonlinear Dynamics etc.
  • Most rooms in residence halls are made available by Studentenwerk, for which students have to apply in advance online. However, private flats, apartments and shared living communities are also available in and around the city of Bayreuth.

Application Deadlines July 15 (winter); January 15 (summer) [applies to most programs but not all] Admission Requirements

  • Higher Education Entrance Qualification; Bachelor’s Degree (graduate programs)
  • German Language Skills: for B2 level (Goethe B2 or higher; telc B2 or higher; TestDaF at least 12 points; DSH 1 or DSH 2) for C1 level (Goethe C1, Telc C1, TestDaF at least 16 points, DSH 2)
  • Other Language Proficiency (for courses taught in English and other foreign languages)
  • Aptitude Test (for some programs)
  • Proof of financial resources
  • Proof of Health Insurance

University of Bayreuth Tuition & Other Costs

The University of Bayreuth does not charge its students any tuition fee. However, a semester contribution of 107.80 EUR has to be paid twice every year. Other costs of living in Bayreuth amount approximately to € 720 per month. Every prospective student must ensure their capacity to spend this amount in order to receive a permit to study at the University of Bayreuth.

Scholarships & Financial Aid for International Students

  • International students and doctoral researchers have the option to apply for a study grant via the International Office by submitting a completed application form.

  • Application Deadlines : 31 August (winter); 28 February (summer)

  • Only the students who have completed 2 semesters of higher education at the university can apply for the above-mentioned scholarship(s).

Students can also fund their studies in Germany by taking up jobs. However, German laws prohibit international students working for more than 120 full-days in a year. Hence, it is recommended to not depend heavily on jobs as a source of funding.
