Technical University of Braunschweig Scholarships for Indian Students

Two categories of aid matter for a TU Braunschweig MS: the Deutschlandstipendium and internal awards (paid after admission), and the DAAD suite (applied for from India before admission). Indian trust awards then top up the loan gap.

Technical University of Braunschweig Institutional Scholarships

Scholarship Amount Duration Eligibility
Deutschlandstipendium €300/month (INR 29,100) 2 semesters (renewable) Merit-based; open to all enrolled TU BS students including internationals
STIBET Doctoral Programme €300-400/month (INR 29,100-38,800) 6 months Enrolled PhD candidates only
Hans Sommer Prize Up to €5,000 (INR 4.85 Lakhs) One-time Top-decile MS thesis in engineering or computer science

Tip for Indian Students: Prioritise the DAAD EPOS application for 15 October 2026, this single award covers your entire €25,000 (INR 24.25 Lakhs) 2-year cost including insurance and travel. Only stack Inlaks and JN Tata as backups, since German scholarships are more generous than what Indian trusts offer for a €0-tuition programme.

Technical University of Braunschweig Tuition Deposit and Payment Options

TU Braunschweig does not publish a separate seat holding or tuition deposit for applicants. However, international applicants may be required to pay a €75 assessment fee for the evaluation of foreign qualifications during the application process. After admission, new students must pay the mandatory semester contribution as part of the enrolment process. For Winter Semester 2026/27, the semester contribution is €472.50. Payment is made by bank transfer, and proof of payment must be submitted through the online TUconnect enrolment process. The enrolment deadline is stated in the admission letter and TUconnect.

Methods of Payment for Technical University of Braunschweig

  • SEPA bank transfer to TU Braunschweig’s official account, credited within 1-2 business days from a German account
  • Wise or Remitly for the international leg from India, saves 3-4% versus a raw SBI or ICICI overseas wire
  • Debit card at the university cashier’s desk using funds already in your German current account
  • Blocked account (Sperrkonto) transfer via Fintiba, Expatrio, Coracle, or Deutsche Bank for the monthly living-cost release of €992 (INR 96,224)

Steps to Pay the Tuition Fee for International Students at Technical University of Braunschweig

  1. Receive the admission letter (Zulassungsbescheid, the formal offer) from TU Braunschweig, typically 6-8 weeks after the 15 July deadline
  2. Open a blocked account and fund it with €11,904 (INR 11.55 Lakhs) via Fintiba, Expatrio, or Coracle
  3. Book and attend the visa interview at the German consulate in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, or Bengaluru
  4. Fly to Braunschweig after visa approval, typically 3-6 weeks after your interview
  5. Complete Anmeldung (city registration) within 14 days of arrival at the Braunschweig Rathaus
  6. Open a German current account with Deutsche Bank, N26, Sparkasse, or DKB and shift blocked-account access
  7. Pay the €880 (INR 85,360) semester contribution to TU Braunschweig, which unlocks your matriculation number
  8. Save every payment receipt in a single folder for future semester renewals and EU Blue Card documentation

Tip for Indian Students: Fund your blocked account by mid-August 2027 at the latest to book a visa slot before the October start, since German consulates in India process 3-8 weeks and July-August slots fill first. Late funding is the number-one reason Winter Semester offers slip to the next intake.

Fee Saving Strategies for Indian Students at Technical University of Braunschweig

Your single biggest saving lever for the Winter Semester 2027/28 intake is the DAAD Study Scholarship, which must be applied for by October 2026 at the latest. Miss that, and your next-best combined saving drops from INR 24 Lakhs to about INR 6-8 Lakhs.

  • Live in Studentenwerk housing: A dorm at €280-350 per month (INR 27,160-33,950) versus a private studio at €500-600 per month (INR 48,500-58,200) saves you roughly INR 20,000-25,000 monthly, or INR 2.4-3 Lakhs per year
  • Work part-time as a HiWi (wissenschaftliche Hilfskraft, a student research assistant): Up to 120 full days or 240 half days per year under student visa rules, at €12-18 per hour (INR 1,164-1,746), earning €4,000-8,000 (INR 3.88-7.76 Lakhs) annually
  • Claim Section 80E tax deduction on your Indian education loan: Full interest deduction against Indian income for up to 8 years, with no upper cap on the deductible amount
  • Apply for Deutschlandstipendium after your first semester: An extra €300 per month (INR 29,100) for 2 semesters based on merit, and it stacks with DAAD
  • Use the post-study 18-month job-seeker visa to secure an EU Blue Card at the €45,000 (INR 43.65 Lakhs) entry threshold, then repay your loan from German take-home over 3-4 years
  • Eat at the Studentenwerk Mensa canteen: €3-5 per meal (INR 291-485) versus €10-15 (INR 970-1,455) outside, saving up to €200 (INR 19,400) monthly

Tip for Indian Students: Your highest-value action for the Winter Semester 2027/28 intake is submitting the DAAD EPOS application by 15 October 2026, which alone covers €25,000 (INR 24.25 Lakhs) across your 2-year MS. Every other lever is worth a fraction of this single deadline.

Is Technical University of Braunschweig Worth the Cost for Indian Students

A 2-year MS at TU Braunschweig costs INR 28.44 Lakhs all-in, less than one year at any UK G5 university and repayable within 3-4 years of a German engineering salary.

  • Post-study rights make the cost math work: Germany grants an 18-month post-study job-seeker visa to non-EU Master’s graduates, and the EU Blue Card threshold for engineering roles is €45,000 (INR 43.65 Lakhs).
  • Entry-level automotive and aerospace engineers in the Braunschweig-Wolfsburg corridor, home to Volkswagen and Siemens Mobility, start at €48,000-60,000 (INR 46.56-58.20 Lakhs).

On EMI terms, a INR 15 Lakh education loan costs about INR 20,000 per month over 10 years at 10.5%, or roughly 6-8% of a monthly take-home of €2,600-3,200 (INR 2.52-3.10 Lakhs). Loan payback within 3-4 years of your first German job is realistic, versus 7-9 years for a comparable UK or US degree.

Key Insight: Your net Winter Semester 2027/28 cost after the DAAD Study Scholarship is under INR 5 Lakhs across the 2-year MS, an amount most working Indian families can self-fund without a bank loan at all. That is the number that makes TU Braunschweig the most cost-efficient TU9 entry for an Indian STEM postgraduate.

Your realistic Winter Semester 2027/28 entry to Technical University of Braunschweig costs INR 28.44 Lakhs all-in, of which INR 24.25 Lakhs collapses to zero if you lock the DAAD Study Scholarship by 15 October 2026. Fund the €11,904 (INR 11.55 Lakhs) blocked account by mid-August 2027, complete APS by June 2027, and submit your TU Braunschweig admission by 15 July 2027. A INR 5-15 Lakh loan services at INR 7,000-20,000 monthly against a German engineering starting salary of €48,000-60,000 (INR 46.56-58.20 Lakhs), one of the fastest payback ratios in study-abroad Europe.

  • Use Apps like Ebay-kleinanzeigen or WG gesucht. Facebook Indian community groups are useful as well. However, check the offer and person first; to see if it is genuine.
  • Never pay online without reading the contract and getting it signed.
  • You can apply at Studentenwerk for hostels. Costs differ according to city.
  • There are also offers from German families to stay with them on University or studentenwerk websites sometimes. That is also a good option for integration. I stayed two years with a family and then in the Studentenwerk hostel.
