University of Bremen Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Indian applicants submit master’s applications through the uni-assist portal, which handles credential verification and grade conversion into the German scale before forwarding files to University of Bremen.

Master’s Programme Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Academic Eligibility: Four-year Indian bachelor’s degree (BE, BTech, BArch) with 55% aggregate or CGPA 5.5/10 (recommended); technical and marine science masters typically expect CGPA 6.0/10 or higher
  • English Language: IELTS 6.5 (with no band below 6.0) or TOEFL iBT 90 for English-taught masters; verify at official page as several programmes accept the medium of instruction certificate
  • Credential Verification: APS certificate from the German Embassy office in New Delhi, mandatory for all Indian applicants (school and university certificates)
  • Programme-Specific: German C1 (DSH-2 or TestDaF 4) for German-taught masters; GRE not required for most engineering programmes

Bachelor’s Programme Requirements

  • Class 12 Academic Requirement: Class 12 with 70% to 85% (recommended); direct entry usually requires prior Indian bachelor’s completion or Studienkolleg foundation year
  • Language Requirement: DSH-2 or TestDaF 4 for German-taught bachelor’s programmes
  • APS Certificate: Mandatory for all Indian applicants

Key insight: University of Bremen accepts Indian 4-year bachelor’s degrees directly for masters entry. Applicants holding a 3-year Indian bachelor’s (BA, BSc, BCom) must complete bridging coursework or a Studienkolleg year to meet the German 210-ECTS equivalence rule.

University of Bremen Acceptance Rate 2027

University of Bremen does not officially publish its acceptance rate. Third-party estimates for programmes with restricted admission (numerus clausus) sit around 40-60% (estimated) at the master’s level, with high-demand English-taught programmes such as MS Space Engineering trending toward the lower end. These figures are indicative and vary substantially by programme and application cycle.

Open-admission programmes (largely German-taught bachelor’s) admit any applicant meeting the minimum eligibility. Restricted programmes rank applicants on bachelor’s grades, motivation letter and programme-specific criteria.

Reality check: Admission at University of Bremen is programme-selective rather than university-selective. A strong academic profile in the target subject plus a clearly argued statement of purpose weighs more heavily than test scores alone.

IIT Delhi (Indian benchmark)#118₹ 2.10 lakh per year (Indian domestic tuition)Domestic STEM route via JEE Advanced; substantially higher entry competition

University of Bremen stands out in this peer set for combining marine and space-science depth with integration into Bremen’s aerospace industry. The QS Geology #=40 subject rank and MARUM’s status as Germany’s foremost marine-science hub give the university a specialised profile that generalist peers do not match.

University of Bremen suits Indian applicants targeting marine sciences, space engineering or environmental research at a public German university, where total investment for a two-year master’s stays around ₹ 15 lakh against market-median STEM starting salaries above ₹ 50 lakh in the Bremen region. The post-study job-seeker visa creates a clear pathway to permanent EU employment for graduates who convert to skilled work.

Applicants seeking a top-100 world ranking, English-taught undergraduate programmes or MBA-style business schooling should look elsewhere. Consider Technical University of Munich for a stronger engineering brand, or RWTH Aachen for a more industry-facing curriculum.

University of Bremen FAQs

Ques. What visa options do University of Bremen graduates have after completing their degree?

Ans. Indian graduates of University of Bremen qualify for Germany’s 18-month post-study job-seeker visa on completion of their degree. This visa permits unrestricted work during the search period and converts to a full work permit or EU Blue Card once a graduate secures a qualifying job offer above the salary threshold. Graduates must apply for the extension at the local Ausländerbehörde immigration office before their student visa expires.

Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at University of Bremen?

Ans. International students in Germany can work 140 full days or 280 half days per calendar year without a separate work permit. This works out to roughly 20 hours per week during the semester. Student-assistant roles at University of Bremen and neighbouring institutes such as MARUM typically pay € 12-14 per hour. Working beyond the limit requires prior Ausländerbehörde approval and can jeopardise student visa status.

Ques. Is a GRE score required for MS admission at University of Bremen?

Ans. Most MS programmes at University of Bremen do not require GRE scores, including MS Space Engineering, MS Communication and Information Technology and MS Marine Biology. Admission decisions rely on the bachelor’s transcript, letter of motivation, English proficiency and any programme-specific portfolios or interviews. Applicants should verify the requirement on the specific course page at uni-assist, as select competitive programmes may request GRE for tie-breaking.

Ques. What is the APS certificate and why do Indian applicants need it?

Ans. APS (Academic Evaluation Centre) certification is a mandatory pre-application document for Indian applicants to German universities. Issued by the German Embassy office in New Delhi, it verifies the authenticity and equivalence of Indian academic credentials. Processing takes 8 to 12 weeks and costs around ₹ 18,000-19,000. All Indian bachelor and master applicants at University of Bremen must submit the APS certificate as part of the uni-assist file.

Ques. Does University of Bremen accept 3-year Indian bachelor’s degrees for master’s admission?

Ans. University of Bremen typically requires a 4-year Indian bachelor’s degree (BE, BTech, BArch) for direct master’s admission. Applicants holding a 3-year Indian bachelor’s (BA, BSc, BCom) may need to complete a bridging semester or additional coursework at a German university to reach the 210-ECTS equivalence. Some programmes offer conditional admission with bridging modules; check the specific programme’s admission page for exact rules.

Ques. How much blocked-account funding do Indian students need for the German student visa?

Ans. Indian applicants must deposit € 11,904 (₹ 13.06 lakh) into a blocked account (Sperrkonto) at a German bank before applying for the student visa. The amount covers 12 months of living costs at € 992 per month, released monthly to the student in Germany. Providers such as Fintiba, Expatrio and Deutsche Bank offer online account opening for Indian applicants and issue the blocking confirmation required by the visa officer.

Ques. Which English-taught bachelor’s programmes are open to Indian applicants at University of Bremen?

Ans. The vast majority of bachelor’s programmes at University of Bremen are taught in German, requiring DSH-2 or TestDaF 4 proficiency for admission. English-taught bachelor’s options are limited to specific inter-university degree pathways. Indian applicants seeking English-medium undergraduate study in Germany typically find broader options at private universities or select TU9 institutions; for English-taught study at University of Bremen, master’s programmes remain the primary pathway.

Ques. Are joint or dual-degree master’s programmes available at University of Bremen?

Ans. University of Bremen participates in several international joint and dual-degree master’s programmes, especially in marine sciences, sustainability and social sciences via the Erasmus Mundus scheme. Programmes such as the International Master in Marine Biological Resources rotate students across partner universities in Europe, with graduates earning degrees from multiple institutions. Verify current joint-programme availability at the university’s international office, as offerings change each academic year.
