University of Hamburg International Student Admissions

The admission process for Hamburg University is a bit demanding and tricky to get in.Applicants are advised to check all the requirements carefully and provide all the requested information in order to get admission at the university.

Admission Requirements for International Students

  • All the documentation from higher education institutions such as foreign school leaving certificate, mark sheets, etc. need to be pre-reviewed uni-assist (University Application Service for International Students).
  • In a preliminary documentation procedure, uni-assist checks whether an applicant’s educational credentials make them eligible to study in Germany or not. It depends on the chosen program also.
  • If applicants have converted grade from their higher education entrance eligibility with confirmation of approval from a German authority than applicant don’t need to obtain any preliminary documentation (VPD) from uni-assist.
  • If documents evaluation is assisted by Uni-assist than applicants have to pay 75 euros.
  • Proof of German/English Language proficiency as per requirement or both.
  • If applicable: proof of the applicant’s higher education entrance eligibility (non-certified copy) in the form of the preliminary documentation or certification
  • If required, additional documents related to the respective program

German/English Proficiency Test for International Students

  • German language proficiency is required for programs taught in German only.
  • For some courses, both English and German language proficiency is required.
  • No German language proficiency is required for programs taught only in English

Visa Process for International Students

  • International applicants must note that three months Schengen visa can’t be converted into a student visa, so they have to apply for a separate student visa.
  • To study at the University of Hamburg, applicants need to either a student applicant visa or a student visa.
  • To apply for a student visa, the applicant must present an acceptance letter/offer of admission from the University.
  • An applicant can apply for a student applicant visa if the individual has applied to the University of Hamburg and received a confirmation for the application.
  • For obtaining the proof of admission into a study program applicant can send any of the following
    • University admission letter “Zulassungsbescheinigung”.
    • Letter of admission in the foundation course. Issued by a Studienkolleg.
    • Letter of admission in propaedeutic course.
    • Letter of admission in a preparatory German language course.
  • Authenticated certificates of earlier education.
    • German university entrance qualification “Abitur”. If the applicant studied in a German education provider abroad. (If not then send the following documents).
    • Recognized foreign academic qualification.
    • Academic records or transcript.

University of Hamburg Undergraduate Admissions

Hamburg University offers several bachelors and other first degree programs to all applicants by 8 faculties like law, business, economics, etc. The initial admission process for all the courses is almost the same.
