The University of Kiel is the oldest higher education institute in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. It is located in the city of Kiel, which lays close to the Danish border. Since 2006, Kiel University is a member of the German Universities Excellence Initiatives.

The university has been in existence since 1665, and is one of the most prestigious institutions in Northern Germany. The modern state university’s botanical garden is a big attraction for natives as well as tourists from around the world.

Programs, Campus, and Residence

  • University of Kiel has 8 faculties which collectively offer 185 degree programs for students to choose from.
  • In addition to offering study programs in nearly 80 subject areas, the university also organizes summer schools for international students to get better acquainted with university lifestyle and academic demands.
  • All international students must directly contact the Studentenwerk Schleswig-Holstein for accommodation. Doctoral students are not eligible for Studentenwerk housing but may avail accommodation in private residence halls or apartments.

  • Proof of adequate financial means (Ability to spend at least € 670 per month)

*Applications should be sent directly to the respective department for certain International Master Programs.

University of Kiel Tuition & Other Costs
