University of Kiel (or CAU) student body consits of more than 27,000 students enrolled in various undergraduate and graduate programs. Fresh admissions are welcomed during Winter and Summer. International applicants are advised to follow the Uni-Assist admission deadlines to speed up their admission process.

  • Uni-ASSIST requires applicants to submit their application documents via mail or post.
  • Applicants have to submit € 75 for application verification via Uni-ASSIST. For those who submit multiple applications will have to pay additional € 35 for each application.

University of Kiel Admissions Deadlines

For UG and PG admissions, the University of Kiel invites applications twice a year- Winter and Summer. The admission deadlines for international applicants are given below:

  • Summer Session: January 15
  • Winter Session: July 15

Applicants must note that since the admission applications are accepted via Uni-assist, it is mandatory for them to adhere to their deadline. Adhering to that, international applicants are asked to forward their applications to Uni-assist by the following dates:

  • Summer Session: December 15
  • Winter Session: June 15

Language Proficiency Requirements for International Students

At University of Kiel, academic programs are available both in German and English language. Keeping in mind the significance of the medium of instruction, international applicants are asked to demonstrate a certain level of fluency in German and English.

Applicants must note that language proficiency will depend on the choice of their applied program.

German Language Proficiency

To be considered for admission in a German-taught program, international applicants must fulfil any one of the following proficiency requirements:

  • University entrance qualification obtained at a German school
  • "Deutsches Sprachdiplom der Kultusministerkonferenz" (Certificate of Proficiency in German) DSDII
  • Certificate of the DSH-2 examination
  • Test-DAF with at least the grade "4" in all areas
  • telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule
  • Goethe C2

University of Kiel Graduate Admissions

The University of Kiel offers graduate programs both in German and English. However, the only 7 programs offered in the English language. Some of these are Economics, Mathematical Finance, Molecular Biology and Evolution, Computer Science and Quantitative Finance.

Visa Process for International Students

International students applying for courses at the University of Kiel must review their visa procedures and meet the following criterion at the time of admission. The details are mentioned below:

  • All candidates must obtain a student visa or student applicant visa at the German Embassy of the German Consulate.
  • The visa must be submitted to the Foreigner’s authority for converting it into a residence permit for study purpose.
